Context;
DH is Jewish, I’m not. Looking at Hebrew names that are distinctive without being completely out there 👍

Phonetic pronunciation is “shosh-AH-nah“.
Sounds like “shoh-shanna”

Try not to be too mean as I really like this one!🤣

Love it. As pps have mentioned zosia memets character on girls is Shoshanna or shosh for short.

Rafflesway · 01/06/2020 16:53

Not a favourite out of many beautiful Jewish names.

However, I knew a Shoshanna many years ago - her lovely mum was Jewish - and she was a spoiled, nasty mare who gained a terrible reputation as a teen. She made her poor mum’s life hell as had the father from whom mum was divorced. She finally left the area with her useless father.

Often wondered what happened to her but she certainly ruined the name for me.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 01/06/2020 16:55

@LittleRa in a million and one ways other than the you tube clip that op attached!

SimonJT · 01/06/2020 16:56

Our old vet was called Shoshannah, I think it’s a really nice name.

Blueskysunsout · 01/06/2020 16:58

What @TARSCOUT said. I’m Scottish to and as soon as I saw it I thought a drunk slurring suzanna. Sorry.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 01/06/2020 17:01

love it - but think of possible nicknames you would be happy with as it will almost certainly be shortened, maybe not by family but by friends, school etc

CuppaZa · 01/06/2020 17:02

I don’t like it

AnneBullen · 01/06/2020 17:04

I love the name but it’s not an easy name to say. It’s more to be admired than to be used day to day.

coronabeer23 · 01/06/2020 17:07

I like it and I like Shoshi. What about Talia, Kayla, Ariella, Ora, Eliana, Liora, Lia, Shira, Noa.

All quite modern Jewish girls names.

AnneBullen · 01/06/2020 17:09

Dalia
Talia
Esther (Esti)
Mila

All Jewish names with a similar vibe

Dilbertian · 01/06/2020 17:10

Susan derives from Susanna, which is the Latin version of - Shoshanna.

It means lily.

AnneBullen · 01/06/2020 17:11

My Hebrew name is Shiphra which I love and wish was my real name (Shiff-ra) - bit out there but I think it’s lovely.

Aber9 · 01/06/2020 17:20

Au revoir, Shosanna

helpmum2003 · 01/06/2020 17:25

Sorry don't like it and the likely nn is Shosh which is a shame when there are so many gorgeous Hebrew names mentioned above.

zigaziga · 01/06/2020 18:11

I also used to watch Girls so for me this has become a normal name after hearing it so many times on TV.
I like it.

BabyBrainJane · 01/06/2020 18:56

Lol @ the Scottish accent comments.
MIL grew up in the Gorbals, Glasgow and it sounds fine with her accent Wink

There are loads of nicknames for it;
Shosh, Shoshie (I’m a Charlotte that was Charshie growing up!), Shana, Hannah, Anna

I love it! I’d heard it before I saw Inglorious Basterds (yes that is the right spelling, Quentin messed up 🤣) but I fell in love with it more after seeing that film.

Ikeameatballs · 01/06/2020 19:17

I love it! Another fan from Inglorious Basterds.

CaffiSaliMali · 01/06/2020 21:15

I really like it. I know one who goes by Shosh.

I'd consider it myself, but no Jewish ancestry unfortunately.

I like Susanna too.

Jellybelly15 · 01/06/2020 21:16

I love it

Roseburn · 01/06/2020 21:23

Love it. And Scottish.

Pipandmum · 01/06/2020 21:29

I like it! I grew up in a very Jewish area and there were a couple of Shoshannas. Deborah was another popular one. Maybe because of that it sounds normal to me.

Bonzabaybee · 01/06/2020 21:30

Love it.

Orphlids · 01/06/2020 21:49

I like it very much. I like the repeating ‘sh’ sound. Very pretty, but the ‘o’ sound gives it a grown up sophistication. Go for it!

Wheresthebiffer2 · 01/06/2020 22:24

hahahahaha
