Hi folks

So I lost my dad in March, his name was Shane. I really want to honour his name for our little one who will be with us before not too long.. would do so as a middle name.

Easy is we have a boy. But what are your best suggestions for a girl alternative?? I've seen Shane/Shayne/Shana used as girl options, but not so keen....

If anyone has any others that we could consider, I'd be so grateful.

Previously we had chosen Arthur, Iris and Romey as our middle name options, named after grandparents.

Thanks ever so much. Xx

Shane is a legit Irish girls name, so you could just go with that?

TotallyRealPsychicInteriors · 09/05/2020 18:22

LotusClover · 09/05/2020 18:22

Windyatthebeach · 09/05/2020 18:23

ProperVexed · 09/05/2020 18:23

I know a little Shae. Not a pretty name but I know no others.

Littleheart5 · 09/05/2020 18:24

Shane is not a legit irish girls names! Not sure what would be even close that you would think that :)

MarieQueenofScots · 09/05/2020 18:25

Shawnie?

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 09/05/2020 18:25

Seana (Shay-na). I know a great American one.

Thatcouldbeme · 09/05/2020 18:25

Shane is of Irish origins and means "God is gracious". The girls names Siobhan and Sinead both have the same meaning so would be the female versions.

MikeUniformMike · 09/05/2020 18:26

Shane would be fine as a middle name for a girl.

Soulstirring · 09/05/2020 18:27

I love Shane. God or it if you like it.

turquoiseplates · 09/05/2020 18:27

I know a girl called Shan. Suits her. Pretty name.

Soulstirring · 09/05/2020 18:27

Oh dear. Go for it

okiedokieme · 09/05/2020 18:28

Sian is a lovely name

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 09/05/2020 18:30

@turquoiseplates it’s normally spelled Sian.
@JoHo8 use it as a middle name, no one ever uses or knows them anyway.

AtTheFootOfTheHill · 09/05/2020 18:32

Well, Shane is an anglicisation of a legit Irish name.

I think Shay or Shayna are nicer for a girl though. I think there is somebody who writes for a magazine called Shane (and definitely a woman) so it's not unheard of to give a man's name to a woman.

I like Siun as well, what about that? I can't do the fada on the u on this keyboard, but siun / shoon is lovely.

getmeacupoftea · 09/05/2020 18:33

Shanay? Or Shannay?

squirrelsbizaar · 09/05/2020 18:33

I grew up with a female Shane, she suited the name and she was a nice kid. I’m in my 40’s though.

Raera · 09/05/2020 18:35

As a PP says Sinead is lovely

BikeRunSki · 09/05/2020 18:35

maria860 · 09/05/2020 18:35

Ontheblackhill · 09/05/2020 18:36

Sinead is the feminine of Shane. That would be a lovely tribute

LadySlipper · 09/05/2020 18:36

I went to school with a girl named Shani.
