What do you think of Ottilie?

Hi thanks for reading! Basically I’ve been really struggle to think o FB a girls name, I just can’t settle on anything and nothing feels right! And a few days ago I heard the name Ottilie (shortened to ottie) and I love it, it’s the only name so far I really love tbh. My only problems are I’m worried it’s slightly pretentious or too ‘out there’, what do you think? I’m not usually a massive fan of really unusual names and don’t want to sound like I’m trying too hard! Any feedback is appreciated... thanks x

Love it. Doesn't sound pretentious at all

Piper is awful @Ellierose4321 - how is that even pronounced? It makes me think of Pippa and the meaning of that name would totally ruin it for me

Harriet and Ottilie are both really lovely though 😍🥰 if I had to pick I think I'd pick Ottilie

I like all your name choices...Harriet is my favourite. Have loved the name for years but couldn't use it for DD as its doesn't go with our surname.

The cat's called Piper (!) but I know a couple of Piper's in RL too. As someone upthread said though you need to be prepared for people to get it wrong. Ours invariably get called Pippa or Pepper when we take her to the vets.

Also love Piper. Not a fan of Hattie. Still think Ottie is your best choice

Really dislike it, sorry!

I love it. I'm in London and it's a name I've heard quite a lot. Not out there at all. It would be on my list next time.

I think it’s becoming popular enough to not be too pretentious. I love it.

midsomermurderess · 06/05/2020 15:41

I think it is utterly ridiculous. I am surprised how many people like it on here. I wonder what sort of people they are too. Aspirational as to class, or as to how they are perceived in terms of class, I would imagine.

I think it’s pretty, cute on a little girl but elegant on a lady. I have Ottilia on my list, it is one of my ‘frillier’ names, most of my names are ugly/strong 😂 but we’re all allowed the odd frilly
