My husband wants to call the new baby after the cat ...

So finally getting DH to start at least thinking about baby names with a couple of weeks to go, and after crossing off the unappealing Cyrus/Aethelstan/Lancelot style names he likes, we finally have a short list.. one of which is the cat’s name Confused

Could people please critique, say which your favourite is, or suggest anything else we might like? We don’t really love any of them... we have a Kitty and a Rafe already and I’d like a name that ‘goes’.

Maxim
Ivo (but would you pronounce it EE-vo or eye-vo?)
Mungo (the cat Blush)
Jonty
Jago (one of ds’s middle name though)

Please help!

Other ideas

Jonah (as you like Gabriel)
Moses (as above)
Marcus
Quentin
Magnus
Julian
Inigo
Humphrey
Rufus (maybe too similar to Rafe)

You seem to like o endings... Arlo, Enzo, Laszlo.... Think Milo, Hugo and Theo may be a bit too common for you.

Others you might like - Ascher, Asa, Jory, Yann(is), Jesse, Arty, Otis, Amos, Nate, Thade (pronounced tay-dee), Omri, Rohan, Ned, Marlowe, Thien, Xander, Saul, Seth, Jethro.

From your list Jago is my fave.

Edenember · 06/05/2020 16:48

Jude, Luca? To add to my first list. Also Otto & Roscoe

They're pet names!

NamechangeObvis · 08/05/2020 21:41

How about Milton?

Our dog is called Milo but if we lived on the posh side of the road he would be known as Milton :D

udnertheradar · 09/05/2020 14:32

We know an Ivo. Pronounced Eye-vo. Love that name!

Ariseandsmellthetea99 · 09/05/2020 14:35

Otto
Julien
Diggory
Mattieus
Phillipe
Xander

I couldn't use mungo, it gets me singing cats and nobody wants to suffer my singing Blush

Is looking at poets worth a go as you like Wilfred? There's an alphabetical list on Wikipedia here with some of a similar gist:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Listoff_poets

I couldn't use them, they'd get horrendously bullied here, but I quite like Siegfried. And Tobias.

BoggiesBonnieBelle · 09/05/2020 15:30

SarahTTC, Mungo is definitely a name. St Mungo is the patron saint of Glasgow and Mungo Park was a Scottish Victorian explorer.

I was at university with a Mungo.

I don't think it's a great name for a child, but it s definitely a name.

Toomuchspinach · 09/05/2020 15:35

Mungo is the worst name ever for a child Shock

Wtf Is up with people!

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 09/05/2020 17:12

I know an Ivo (he's Italian). He pronounces it Ee-vo...

StampMc · 09/05/2020 17:26

Hate jonty. Maxim reminds me too much of the restaurant chain (but poss because I’m forrin), and it does have an unpleasantly hyper masculine feel. Ivo (eye vo for me) is not too bad. You can’t you your other child’s middle name.
I find myself left with Mungo.

I like Tristan, Julian and Magnus. If you shout Milo around here you will have dozens of dogs capering around your ankles.

passthemustard · 09/05/2020 20:03

What about Jolyon? Or Jolian /Joleon

I have a Kitty, her siblings are Noah Esme and Lulu, currently cooking up number 5 and looking for inspo. Probably won't go with Mungo ......

paradisefalls · 09/05/2020 21:39

Love ivo and I pronounce it eye-vo.
What about Jonah or wilby

Ellmau · 09/05/2020 21:48

You could always rename the cat...

NamechangeObvis · 28/05/2020 10:33

Just in case anyone wants an update ... baby is here, nearly two weeks late - and remains nameless. Mungo is definitely off the table though Grin

Looks like a Luca to me.

The main issue though is how the cats feel about all this?

babynamelover · 28/05/2020 10:42

Cute, congrats he's gorgeous 😊

Lynda07 · 28/05/2020 10:44

Oh I think that's sweet! I had one cat, my first, called 'Everard' and I wouldn't have called my baby after him (though I joked I would), but since then have had a Sammy, Susie, Simon, Jessica, Jennifer, Sophie, another Susie, Stanley, Thomas, Victoria, all acceptable names. Well I did have another one called 'Stringfellow Hawk', whom we called, 'Stringy' but we took him on aged six and was already named, past the time when I would have been having babies so the question didn't arise.

Lynda07 · 28/05/2020 10:45

Congratulations Flowers, he's gorgeous!

Ginandplatonic · 28/05/2020 10:51

He is an Ivo. Or possibly a Bruno.

Whatsyourflava · 28/05/2020 11:11

Oh wow @NamechangeObvis he's gorgeous !! Thank you so so much for updating us we really appreciate it ❤️
I think he looks like an Otis Tristan or Barnaby myself

MagnusMama · 28/05/2020 11:13

What about Jeremy? NN Jerry.
Duncan is a lovely, underused Scottish name.
Kester
Sholto
Gordon
Hector
Gregory nn Greg
Gilbert nn Gil
Enzo
Lucas
Jarvis

Why all the Mungo hate though? It's really not that bad. My DS has a toy monkey named Mungo. It's an old traditional name.
