Hi all! Me again!! 😅

I'm going to keep these threads coming until we find a baby name unfortunately 😅

Thoughts on the name Lorelei?

I like asking for an outsiders opinion as it highlights points about the name myself & hubby wouldn't have thought of!

Thanks again!! ☺️

I love it!

OhioOhioOhio · 08/04/2020 14:09

Sorry. It sounds like a made up word.

YangShanPo · 08/04/2020 14:09

Reminds me of The Gilmour Girls which I like and it's quite a nice name in itself. The character in Gilmour Girls was called Rory for short.

NeedToKnow101 · 08/04/2020 14:10

It's not a made up word. We have a lovely children's book about Lorelei and some fireflys.

Dhalandchips · 08/04/2020 14:10

A song by the Cocteau Twins. It's lovely.

BuffaloCauliflower · 08/04/2020 14:11

Yes I like it, and the nickname Rory, and Gilmore Girls. But I don’t think that’s an association to worry about

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 08/04/2020 14:12

I think of Gilmour Girls, not a bad thing but I'm not a fan of the name sorry, it's quite fussy and doesn't roll off the tongue. I like Laurel though.

MadamNoo · 08/04/2020 14:14

I think the Lorelei is a beautiful mermaid who lures sailors to their death?

mamaoffourdc · 08/04/2020 14:15

I love it x

Aquamarine1029 · 08/04/2020 14:17

I don't love it, and I don't hate it, but it does seem a little "much." It's quite fussy to me. I like Lauren a lot more.

GoodMorningSunshine · 08/04/2020 14:18

I know a baby with this name. Hadn’t heard of it before but it’s so lovely. They pronounce Lie rather than Lee.

emmathedilemma · 08/04/2020 14:19

I think of shrubbery for some reason?!?

Krisskrosskiss · 08/04/2020 14:22

Really love it. I wanted to use it for our daughter but it was vetoed by my husband because he didnt like the story of the rock... it comes from a large rock island in germany supposedly lured sailors to their deaths.. it's kind of a siren type name... he didnt like that... I still think it's cool!

Orphlids · 08/04/2020 14:23

I really like it. I can imagine Lorelei would be a rather exciting, educated and independent young lady.

Stet · 08/04/2020 14:25

Gilmore! My favourite show ever so I'm biased

LockedInMadness · 08/04/2020 14:25

I imagine her being a dancing girl.

Twinberry · 08/04/2020 14:27

Makes me think of shampoo. But if you love it go with it whatever anyone else thinks!

SpeedwellBlue · 08/04/2020 14:27

Menopauseandteensdontmix100 · 08/04/2020 14:29

Gilmore Girls - i prefer Rory.

MikeUniformMike · 08/04/2020 14:31

It's nicer than Lauren, which I dislike, but I like Laura a lot.

Does it matter what outsiders think? If you love it then you could use it.

HKCLARK · 08/04/2020 14:35

@mikeuniformmike

No it doesn't specifically matter what others think of the actual name, the purpose of these threads is for us to see what associations come with the names that we may not have thought of...for example with my previous name suggestion (Oria) 90% of people associated it with oral sex or Oreos which is obviously a no go!! And the other name (May Blair) was associated with Theresa May & tony Blair which again we hadn't thought of.

I think you have to be okay with people potentially referencing the Gilmore Girls.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 08/04/2020 14:36

I like it. Never watched Gilmour Girls so it makes me think of Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (not perhaps an ideal role model, but what the hell), and Lorelei King, who’s a UK based American voice actress.
Very distinctive name, but not “made up”.

Yesterdayforgotten · 08/04/2020 14:37

Its nice, i like it. It reminds me of the series Gilmore Girls and both mother and daughter are likeable and intelligent character. Lori is nice for short.

Musmerian · 08/04/2020 14:41

@OhioOhioOhio - it’s not made up. It’s a German name .
