DH says it sounds like Uncle Fester. He prefers Hestia.

It was in a book I was reading.

I love it. But then she’s one of my faves from His Dark Materials
(Cried so much when they died)

fascinated · 18/01/2020 20:12

I thought of uncle fester too.

LauraPalmersBodybag · 18/01/2020 20:13

It’s lovely

ThursdayLastWeek · 18/01/2020 20:13

I love it because of Scoresby and Hester but I don’t think i would have been brave enough to use it on a real life human girl.

Perhaps Esther as an alternative.

daisypond · 18/01/2020 20:13

Lovely

Angie6868 · 18/01/2020 20:14

I love it. Also Esther

ichbineinstasumer · 18/01/2020 20:15

no, ugly and hard sounding

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/01/2020 20:16

Love it. One of my family names.

Hester is a great one. The link to His Dark Materials for a start.

Love it.

M0reGinPlease · 18/01/2020 20:17

Love it!

(Cried so much when they died)

Sad am only just starting book 2 and they are alive.

Mandarinfish · 18/01/2020 20:18

I prefer Hester to Hestia, but I prefer Esther to either of them.

HildaSnibbs · 18/01/2020 20:18

I also love it because of His Dark Materials. I think it's probably unusual these days but would not sound out of place with the kind of names that kids have at our school.

eddiemairswife · 18/01/2020 20:18

The adulteress in The Scarlet Letter.

ZoeandChandon · 18/01/2020 20:19

My first thought was Uncle Fester too.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 18/01/2020 20:19

I like it. Makes me think of a quiet, seemingly mousy kind of girl with a quick wit when you get to know her.

HerculesMulligan · 18/01/2020 20:22

I know a fabulous Hester. I loved the name before I knew her and she's a good fit for it.

Rugbycomet · 18/01/2020 20:28

How about changing the spelling to Hesta?

Whynosnowyet · 18/01/2020 20:29

Estelle and Celeste are similar...

strawberry2017 · 18/01/2020 20:33

Honestly I don't like it but then the one Hester I knew wasn't a very friendly person so that probably doesn't help

Whatsyourflava · 18/01/2020 20:48

Great name how about Hesper too with a “P” rather than “T”. Lovely meaning from what I remember

Haybo26 · 18/01/2020 20:59

No.

Chienloup · 18/01/2020 21:00

It's a beautiful name.

NotNowPlzz · 18/01/2020 21:00

I hate it. Sounds like Fester.

timetest · 18/01/2020 21:01

It sounds old fashioned but in a good way.
