Girls name 'Beige'

So I met someone earlier and her daughter is called Beige. She's a preteen.
Is this a name anyone has ever heard of? I've only ever known it to be a colour.
She only wrote it down so I don't know how she pronounced it.

You sure it wasn't breige? (Breege)

TheVanguardSix · 17/01/2020 14:04

What an insulting name.
Beige is used to describe something dull/plain.

isthisaname · 17/01/2020 14:04

Unless she misspelled it (twice) it was defo Beige.

Hmmm not sure I like that much.

isthisaname · 17/01/2020 14:06

I'm wondering if it's possibly a name in another culture maybe? It just seems so strange. I wish I asked how she pronounced it.

Paige?

isthisaname · 17/01/2020 14:08

@ZenNudist the woman in question typed out the girls name. I don't think it could have been a misspelling.

Yes, it's a word often used to describe something as boring these days, so I'm not sure I'd want to name a child after that concept. Grin

Is this in the UK, OP? What's the family background?

74NewStreet · 17/01/2020 14:09

She typed out her name when she was talking to you?

isthisaname · 17/01/2020 14:09

Who knew

Beige I have never heard of but I'm not keen on it. Navy and grey are modern girls' names and I can't say I like them either!

Russellbrandshair · 17/01/2020 14:11

That’s AWFUL. Who would call their child that? Urgh

isthisaname · 17/01/2020 14:14

Yes, she typed it out. It was at an appointment. I'm being deliberately vague.

The lady was white British as far as I could tell. She also had an unusual name (although it was one I had heard of).

Non gendered names... What a load of hooey. And to choose a word signifying dull and boring just about sums these nutters up.

LoonyLunaLoo · 17/01/2020 14:18

That is literally the worst name ever! Is there anything more morning than Beige?? It’s not even a nice sounding word.

PuppyMonkey · 17/01/2020 14:18

Think I prefer Taupe or Magnolia, tbh. Grin

isthisaname · 17/01/2020 14:18

The lady seemed to be perfectly 'normal' and used she and her to talk about her daughter.
Now I'm wondering if it was a misspelling and she copied and pasted rather than re-typed??

Grey is quite trendy now and that has the same image as beige, I’d say. Bland background colour.

TwentyViginti · 17/01/2020 14:44

Blue as a name seemed popular some years ago. Are Grey and Navy really being used as names now?

Beige......hmmm, quite a nice sound, but awful colour.

firstimemamma · 17/01/2020 15:15

I feel like a child called Grey is going to spend the rest of her life repeating her name several times to so many people who are going to think they heard 'Grace'.

There was a thread a while back in which a mum wanted to call her child Teal and I didn't really get that either!

Indigo I quite like. Can't stand beige though, what a boring colour it is too!

Russellbrandshair · 17/01/2020 15:45

The worst thing is- it’s the most boring colour!! When people describe something dull it’s often described as beige.

Russellbrandshair · 17/01/2020 15:45

At least magnolia could be shortened to Maggie!!

zurigirl · 17/01/2020 22:34

I love unique names and colour names like Grey, but Beige is a step too far in my opinion, just purely because for me it's a synonym for plain/dull/boring as another poster said.

Doyoumind · 17/01/2020 22:36

Poor child.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 17/01/2020 22:44

Oh dear, Beige, damning with faint praise.
