Do you like the name Seven for a girl?

Indecisivemom · 30/12/2019 07:35

My husband and I are curious as to how the first name Seven would be for a girl. The number is significant to us biblically and means the number of completeness, as she will be completing our family. There are many other reasons behind Seven.

Is it too out there, or is it cool?

Thanks for any input! Smile

I really like it.

But I don't know if I'd be brave enough to name a child it!

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 30/12/2019 22:51

Christ almighty... Seven or Teal? At least Gemma is actually a name.

I'd quite like to be hooked up with your supplier, OP, because whatever you're smoking, I could do with some.

EugenesAxe · 30/12/2019 22:53

No... I expect it’s been said but it just makes me think head in a box.

longwayoff · 30/12/2019 22:54

No. Reminds me of The Prisoner and also the eponymous film. Absolutely not.

OrangeTwirl · 30/12/2019 22:58

I guess the name Seven will be fine if his/her other siblings are called one, two, three, four, five and six....No. cancel that. Why would you call a child a number??

Cillmantain · 30/12/2019 23:16

Seven is awful
Teal is even worse.
Gemma is very dull

SparePantsAndLego · 30/12/2019 23:28

Please don’t use Teal as a middle name if you decide on Gemma. Sounds far too similar to genital...

Ellecrawford · 30/12/2019 23:55

I love it! I think it's a very cool name. I would personally use as a middle name but that's just out of preference. I think it's fabulous x

EmmaGrundyForPM · 31/12/2019 01:21

It's interesting that some bird names are acceptable - Robin, Wren etc - but not Teal. However that's the way it is. A bit like Poppy, Lily and Jasmine are acceptable flower names but not Daffodil or Penstemon.

AriadneAufNaxos · 31/12/2019 07:45

Robin as a name isn't derived from robin as a bird.

Is Wren an acceptable name?

PlumsGalore · 31/12/2019 08:03

You think Seven Teal sounds great?

What about Nine Mustard, or Three Mauve?

See how silly it really is.

Hepsibar · 31/12/2019 08:06

Unusual and I think most people would think of the Borg connotations although to you it has a completely different significance. May I suggest considering for a middle name ... or could you adapt it with an "a" or something? Sevenah Sevena Seveni

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 31/12/2019 08:08

I really like it (unpopular opinion it seems). If you do, I suggest having an ordinary second name so she can use that instead if she wants to when she's older.

KaptainKaveman · 31/12/2019 08:14

Bad idea. You wouldn't call her 'five' or 'three' would you?

alwaysmovingforwards · 31/12/2019 08:48

@CosmoK hahaha, I thought exactly the same thing!

OP, you need to watch the Seinfeld episode about calling a child Seven 😂

EmmaGrundyForPM · 31/12/2019 08:48

Is Wren an acceptable name?

According to MN it is!

Summergarden · 31/12/2019 08:51

Personally I prefer Eight, or maybe Three.

Sorry, couldn’t help myself!

alwaysmovingforwards · 31/12/2019 08:51

I believe in giving a child a conventional name but then you can nickname them whatever you like.

The kid then gets the option in later life to introduce herself with the conventional name for job interviews etc and keep the nickname for fronds and family.

HappydaysArehere · 31/12/2019 08:51

No. Please don’t burden your child with it.

madeyemoodysmum · 31/12/2019 08:57

Saran ?

redcarbluecar · 31/12/2019 09:03

I’d have it as a middle name. For a first name I like Twenty, Thirty or Ahundredand.

origamiwarrior · 31/12/2019 09:04

Seven no. Teal is fine (not one I would use but I wouldn't bat an eyelid).

GrumpyHoonMain · 31/12/2019 09:05

I have a feeling the Beckhams gave their daughter a version of Sevaan (Sanskrit term for charitable servitude) rather than the English version.

Similarly Beyonce’s son isn’t named Sir as in the English title; his name is based on the Urdu / Hindu phrase ‘sir aankhon par’ which is a beautiful concept. It means ‘I will take on the burden of all your wishes / dreams’ which in South Asian / African cultures is what brothers do for sisters.

KittyMarmalade · 31/12/2019 09:11

Septima at a pinch, but not Seven!

Septima Poinsette Clark was an African-American educator and activist, the "Grandmother of the American Civil Rights Movement" so that's pretty cool I suppose?

Inanothertime · 31/12/2019 09:17

Just in case you don't watch Seinfeld OP! Here are a few clips! 😄
