Do you like the name Seven for a girl?

Indecisivemom · 30/12/2019 07:35

My husband and I are curious as to how the first name Seven would be for a girl. The number is significant to us biblically and means the number of completeness, as she will be completing our family. There are many other reasons behind Seven.

Is it too out there, or is it cool?

Thanks for any input! Smile

Doesn’t Reece Mogg have a septimus?

TruthOnTrial · 30/12/2019 11:35

Omg this is actually serious!

I don't think parents have rights to give children ridiculous names atall. They are thinking about themselves and not the poor children fgs.

You don't have to call your child seven just because your family is finished, its really not a valid reason for a name, I mean many babies are unintended pregnancies, what then, name the next one 'oh unfinished'

No, sorry, poor reason for giving a baby a number rather than a name.

MonstranceClock · 30/12/2019 11:36

I went to school with a boy named Seven. He wasn’t bullied and no one batted an eyelid. It’s just a name. He’s never had any trouble filling out forms or opening bank accounts either.

Mamabear88 · 30/12/2019 11:37

Just seen your update. Teal is dreadful too. Gemma is nice, go with that. At least it is a normal and pretty name and not overused.

CareOfPunts · 30/12/2019 11:37

Jeez, you have awful taste in names. Gemma is ok but a bit 80s-tastic. Teal and Seven are ludicrous. Out of all the lovely names out there, are these really the best you can come up with?

bettybattenburg · 30/12/2019 11:38

How about Seren as an alternative ?

Speakeasy22 · 30/12/2019 11:39

If she’s called Teal then her whole life will be “Teal, as in the colour?”

TruthOnTrial · 30/12/2019 11:39

Choose something other than a colour or number at least!

Gingerninja01 · 30/12/2019 11:40

Perhaps you could use it as a middle name?

PristineCondition · 30/12/2019 11:41

I know a nine year old Jemma and it suits her.

I like 7 but im a trekkie

Dollymixture22 · 30/12/2019 11:42

Seren is beautiful - welsh for star.

1066vegan · 30/12/2019 12:19

Teal: not quite as awful as Seven but still ridiculous. It's a colour or a kind of duck; it's not a name.

Gemma and Jemma are both pretty. I also quite like Jemima.

MissBarbary · 30/12/2019 12:31

Neves
Looks like a typo for naves. Which is even worse than 7.

Doesn’t Reece Mogg have a septimus?

I think he does. I can't be bothered to Google whether he has a Primus, Secundus, Tertius, Quartus, Quintus and Sextus.

These are boys' names .I don't think there are female equivalents (well I suppose you could feminise any of them if you were daft enough) other than Octavia for Octavius (Octavus??)

FluffyEggsontoast · 30/12/2019 12:53

People have been quite rude to you @Indecisivemom even though you’ve already acknowledged and taken on board the opinions halfway through the thread. You can stop being so cruel everyone. Giving honest opinions is one thing ... it’s gone a bit far now

Poorolddaddypig · 30/12/2019 13:53

People are being really rude but I do kind of agree that the names aren’t great - Seven and Teal aren’t really names and your child will be judged, as you’ve seen by the reactions on this thread. It’s shitty to judge a person by their name but people do and is it fair that your child might be negatively affected in life because of a choice you’re making? Must you choose a meaningful name - isnt your child’s birth a meaningful event in itself? You don’t need to name her after something else meaningful! Just give her a nice name. Teal and Seven could lead to her being teased or bullied, feeling anxious or embarrassed to introduce herself, or worse even causing her to lose out on job opportunities and stuff because people take one look at the name on her CV and get a certain negative image (again I know this is wrong but it does happen). Gemma is just dated and not in a good way - it reminds me of basically all the school bullies and the kids who who used to smoke on the school bus in the 90s, I feel like they were all called Gemma. There are so many lovely names out their to choose from! If you like an unusual biblical name, I met a little Selah the other day which I thought was lovely.

FalalalalaloreanFortescue · 30/12/2019 14:03

Why do people do this to their children? 🤦🏻‍♀️ OP how would you feel about being called Teal or Seven? Having to explain it to everyone you meet, spell it, have a conversation about it every single time you introduce yourself to someone.

What a way to give your kid a complex.

SMaCM · 30/12/2019 14:06

I like it. If you have doubts, you could use it as a middle name.

Pannalash · 30/12/2019 14:09

Makes me think of Len the Judge on Strictly shouting ‘Seven’.

midsomermurderess · 30/12/2019 14:19

It could give the impression that, having had 6 children, you had just given up on finding a name for your seventh. Give your daughter the dignity of a proper name.

redwoodmazza · 30/12/2019 14:29

I like Jemma - it's our son's new girlfriend's name!

PaperbackBlighter · 30/12/2019 14:51

Wasn’t Seven a character in Married with Children? His birth parents had 6 kids already so they called him Seven and gave him up.

Beansandcoffee · 30/12/2019 14:57

Can you imagine having your name called out “and the seventh child to win a friendship award is seven”. Also say she marrieds a mr Eighth and takes his name. It is a number.

Teal is the colour of a wall paint.

ooooohbetty · 30/12/2019 15:10

Her life will be a miserable one at school. Think about her rather just giving her a daft name because it suits you.

Instagrump · 30/12/2019 15:20

I would. But only if DH let me make her middle name "Of nine tertiary adjunct of unimatrix zero"
Or maybe Seven Annika Jeri.

But I'm a big Trekkie.

Not keen on Teal as it's a colour or a duck but Gemma, whilst dated, could come back. It's still a nice name.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 30/12/2019 15:28

But only if DH let me make her middle name "Of nine tertiary adjunct of unimatrix zero"

I always think. "... of nine" when I see this suggest d as a name.

It's a rubbish name for a human - get a pet!
