Do you like the name Seven for a girl?

My husband and I are curious as to how the first name Seven would be for a girl. The number is significant to us biblically and means the number of completeness, as she will be completing our family. There are many other reasons behind Seven.

Is it too out there, or is it cool?

Thanks for any input! Smile

Go all out and call her Seven Teal.

Won't be confusing at all........

curiouscatgotkilled · 30/12/2019 18:28

I read it as Steven

Letsnotusemyname · 30/12/2019 18:30

Jacob Reese Moggs next child’s name (girl or boy)

My daughter teaches a 7.

Odd choice. Other names are available.

No sorry, I just think of that hideous film.

I've come across a Seren and of course there's Serena...

TurduckenFucken · 30/12/2019 18:33

It’s not my favourite Numberjack. What about calling her Spooky Spoon instead?

colouringinpro · 30/12/2019 18:34

Or in Spanish it's Siete?

Bubblysqueak · 30/12/2019 18:35

No it's a number not a name. What about seren?

firstimemamma · 30/12/2019 18:40

Just stick with Gemma!

Lostintransfixation · 30/12/2019 18:40

She will probably spend a lot if time correcting people who thinks her name is Seren.

FruitcakeOfHate · 30/12/2019 18:42

No. I think it's utter fruit loop territory. So it Teal. Fucking hell.

Yupimahelecopter · 30/12/2019 18:42

Jesus.. Mumsnet is mean! I really like Teal.. Like I'd consider it myself! Seven I don't hate. Wouldn't be a judgy bitch if I met someone called Seven or Teal.. And I hope I've thought my kids well enough not to bully someone over a name!

Hushabyelullaby · 30/12/2019 18:42

Seren is Welsh for Star, does that have any meaning for you?

MoomimWoomin · 30/12/2019 18:44

I know a girl called Sevin (pronounced Se-veen) it really suits her and is a usual name in her nationality

Hefzi · 30/12/2019 18:52

As others have said, "I'm not a number, I'm a free (wo) man".

But if you are really wedded to it, @Indecisivemom, maybe in another language would work better - Sheva (Hebrew) for your Biblical needs, or maybe Saba/h (Swahili/Arabic)?

Boireannachlaidir · 30/12/2019 18:58

Fgs you and "DH" need to have a word with yourselves.

How old do you have to be to change your name these days? Hmm

FourStarsShine · 30/12/2019 19:00

About a quarter of women I know in their late 30s/early 40s are called Gemma (the rest being Sarah, Nicola and Louise!). Gemma’s a really 80s name.

Teal sounds like a brand of paint or sealant. It’s ugly and she’d probably grow to hate it amongst all the Isabelles, Poppys, Lilys and Olivias she’ll be at school with.

Seven would be awful on a school aged child. Can you imagine the number of times the word will be used?

I’m assuming you have other kids if this one will ‘complete your family’. What kind of names have you used before?

Reserve Seven and Teal as middle names!

PolloDePrimavera · 30/12/2019 19:03

Are you a pop star? If not, then no.

FlamingoAndJohn · 30/12/2019 19:03

What about Severn? Then she can say ‘like the river’ when spelling it.

bettybattenburg · 30/12/2019 19:17

What about Severn? Then she can say ‘like the river’ when spelling it.

Or like the Severn Bore if she turns out not to be an interesting person Hmm

MsF1t · 30/12/2019 20:28

Seren or Severine are lovely. (Apologies for lack of accent there.)

Not Septima or variations along similar lines- shell only get called 'Septic' at school.

Mulledwineinajug · 30/12/2019 20:30

I know a Seven. It reminds me of Eleven in Stranger Things.

DecemberSnow · 30/12/2019 20:31

Its neither "out there" or "cool"

Its awful. Its a number. Not a name.
Dont do it to her

Cineraria · 30/12/2019 21:30

I agree with most about Seven being a bit disappointing or odd as a main given name but really don't get the distaste for Teal. I thought nature names, such as bird names were popular currently and Teal could easily end up sharing a desk with Wren, Robin, Jay, Raven, Rhea or maybe Phoenix at school, so I don't see why she'd be more prone to being teased for it. It's not like she's suggesting Penguin, Crow, Flamingo, Gannet or Vulture that have comic or unpleasant associations.

I do wonder if it is a surname or forename in OP's family though. I'd have thought it was more common as a surname.

Runnerduck34 · 30/12/2019 21:31

No! It's a number not a name, don't do it

SophieGiroux · 30/12/2019 22:43

No
