Is Skye a bit 'out there' for a name?

I like the connetations. Is it a bit out there though? Hmm

It would be a nice name but for the fact that Paw Fucking Patrol shows no sign of going away and Skye is arguably the worst of the pups. And now I have the paw patrol theme song in my head.

Skye is lovely!
Daphne was in a car crash caused by/involving Gran (I think) and was in a coma for ages before she died. God I loved 80s Neighbours.

iggi999 · 26/09/2019 18:43

I thought she was shot? Think I need to head to Wikipedia!

PuffHuffle5 · 26/09/2019 18:47

It’s been around a while. Definitely not ‘out there’ - maybe 10 or 15 years ago it was.

We have a Skye at nursery, lovely name and she's a lovely little girl

Clangus00 · 26/09/2019 18:52

Very common here.

Mrsjayy · 26/09/2019 18:53

My friends DD is Skye but she is in her 20s so maybe due a comeback I think it is fine if you're Scotti sh or "earthy"

AllFourOfThem · 26/09/2019 18:53

I know two little girls called Skye and both were named by their siblings who are big fans of Paw Patrol. Whilst I’m somewhere between indifferent and liking the name, I would worry about a child being bullied by classmates for being a dog (possibly projecting from my own childhood here) although as dogs go, the Paw Patrol ones are very cool.

Mrsjayy · 26/09/2019 18:55

Ah I've not watched kids TV in a while I am not familiar with paw patrol dogs

habibihabibi · 26/09/2019 18:56

There is a dog on the incredibly toddler popular PawPatrol called Sky/Skye. Having said that all of my own children have "dog" names according to mumsnet.

Esspee · 26/09/2019 18:56

Love it.

TulipsTulipsTulips · 26/09/2019 19:00

It’s not ‘out there’ but yes it has negative connotations (class-wise). It would not look good on a cv or application for a professional job. I would avoid it unless you don’t mind a bit of negative class prejudice.

Mrsjayy · 26/09/2019 19:11

Do you mean it's too chavvy for the high court judging tulipyou should have just said that

Roozy123 · 26/09/2019 19:31

@TulipsTulipsTulips 🙄

Is there a list somewhere that I've missed, of names worldwide that "look good" on a CV for a professional job that everyone agrees on!?? 🙄

ParanoidGynodroid · 26/09/2019 19:53

It would not look good on a cv or application for a professional job

FFS where did you get that idea? Apart from the fact that it's a perfectly fine name, any employer who chooses employees on the basis of their first names, rather than fitness for the position, is surely a pretty shitty employer anyway.

Roozy123 · 26/09/2019 19:55

@ParanoidGynodroid yes!! Totally agree!!!

"Oh, she's highly educated has experience in the role and has..... Oh..... wait..... their name is Skye, shred the CV sue!!!" 🙄

misspiggy19 · 26/09/2019 19:56

Not out there at all. Its becoming pretty common nowz

Soontobe60 · 26/09/2019 20:07

I've taught many Sky s over the years. It's quite common where I work even now.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 26/09/2019 20:09

No, it's quite mainstream and a lovely name!

Heismyopendoor · 26/09/2019 20:15

My dd is Sky, we are Scottish (central west coast) and don’t know of any others in the kids old school or clubs.

We aren’t chavs or neds.

Mrsjayy · 26/09/2019 20:21

Are you sure your Skye isn't a ned though Grin

Missingaclue · 26/09/2019 20:28

I think it's really increased in popularity lately in my area to the point where I don't see it as such an 'out there' name anymore. There's currently 3 at the nursery I work at. It's really pretty.

s3tut0y3r · 26/09/2019 21:14

Have you thought about Skylar, the Dutch name....

june2007 · 26/09/2019 21:18

Quite mainstream for a girl. Only met 1 boy called sky. (Not including the guys and dolls character.)
