Is Skye a bit 'out there' for a name?

I like the connetations. Is it a bit out there though? Hmm

Wasn't Lou Carpenter's daughter in Neighbours called Skye? She must be knocking on for 30 now.

TottieandMarchpane · 26/09/2019 00:55

Not unless Lou Carpenter was Joe Mangel’s alter ego! Grin

Was it Kerry who was her mum, (got killed on a duck shoot in the eighties)? Not sure if Joe was dad or stepdad.

NerrSnerr · 26/09/2019 00:55

Oh no I looked it up, it was Joe Mangel! Still it wasn't 'out there' all those years ago so sure it'll be fine now.

NerrSnerr · 26/09/2019 00:56

Cross post! Wasn't it Daphne who got killed on the duck shoot? I might be wrong though.

TottieandMarchpane · 26/09/2019 00:57

The whole point then was that Kerry definitely was “out there”, I think. Knit your own spaghetti, environmentalist type. (She was protesting the duck shooting when she died.) But it helped bring the name into the mainstream Smile

Why do I remember all this gubbins?

TottieandMarchpane · 26/09/2019 00:58

X post. I can’t remember what dreadful end Daphne met. RTA? Something quick.

I think this is a tangent Grin

DirtyWindow · 26/09/2019 00:58

Similar style of name to Summer or Devon imo. Slightly hippyish and nature inspired. Not super classic but not exactly bonkers either.

BlueTimesTwo · 26/09/2019 01:02

I had two school friends named Skye in the early 80's. My grandmother who was born around 1920 was horrified - "Skye! That's an old woman's name!"

So I think it's one of those old names that makes regular comebacks.

Hollyhobbi · 26/09/2019 01:03

Is Blaze supposed to be Blaise as in St. Blaise the patron Saint of sore throats?

pumkinspicetime · 26/09/2019 01:20

If anything it is probably a bit too popular at the moment I would have thought.
Nice name and place though.

DulciUke · 26/09/2019 01:40

Not out there at all. It's a lovely name.

bakesalesally · 26/09/2019 02:25

It's a beautiful name, and I know four in RL

Astronica · 26/09/2019 06:06

Not out there at all, and a lovely name.

HeronLanyon · 26/09/2019 06:10

More ‘up there’ than ‘out there’ surely ?
Not uncommon.
For some reason I never think of Isle of Skye when I hear it. If I did I’d like it more. I think of ‘sky’ given a bit of a ‘twist’.
Wouldn’t use it or want to be called it myself but it works for some.
Congrats btw op.

Littlepond · 26/09/2019 06:19

I love the name Skye. I don’t think it’s “out there” but I don’t think it’s “chavvy” (hate that word and connotation but I guess we all know what it means 🙄)

LostInTheColonies · 26/09/2019 06:23

I know two Skyes. Neither in the least bit chavtastic - one is 80 and about as posh as an Aussie can be, and the other is 10 and just lovely. No hippies in either case Grin.
Lovely name.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 26/09/2019 06:34

I’m 40 and have met several Skyes through the years admittedly I am Scottish so possibly more wide spread up here.

AverageMummy · 26/09/2019 07:12

It’s definitely not hippy. I don’t like the c word but this would be the sort of name with strong connotations

SunsetYorks · 26/09/2019 07:16

I know a Skylar - love it!

peppinanna · 26/09/2019 08:37

I like Skye and Skylar!
Very rude and judgemental calling a baby name "chavtastic" Hmm

Beamur · 26/09/2019 08:40

It's a nice name. Whimsical (in a good way)
I like island based names and have used one in my DD's name.
Not too unusual or out there imo.

Welshe · 26/09/2019 08:49

Thanks ladies :)

I don't mind if people don't like it but cannot stand comments like Shmithecat2 using the term chavtastic. Such a derogatory and ignorant term.

I think it’s a lovely name @Welshe

Are you going to pick it

Yellowandgold · 26/09/2019 16:49

Oooh nice

Roozy123 · 26/09/2019 16:51
