I want to use this name... for a GIRL

a slightly dramatic title haha.
Anyway I’m 33 weeks pg with a baby girl and the name I love for her is MICAH. I know it’s a male name but I just love it and think it works throughout life. Her dad fucked off when I was 12 weeks so it’s just me who gets to decide and hormones could be clouding my vision, so please feel free to (nicely) knock some sense into me.
I did mention the name to a close friend and she surprisingly liked it, and she’s v fussy with names.
So is it really that bad?
TIA

“Personally I like boy names for girls, and I don't care if that's sexist.”

Why don’t you like girl’s names for boys?

MikeUniformMike · 18/09/2019 09:20

Cecil is still, quite definitely, a boys name.

There are bonkers suggestions on here.

There was a female actor on The Waltons called Michael. That does not make Michael a girl's name.

If you give a girl a boy's name, think about it carefully first. Your DD will be an adult for most of her life. It won't be like naming a puppy, and it's not you who has to live with the name.
Every time little Micah's name appears, people will assume that she is a boy or man. People do not like to be wrongfooted so that first impression will be tricky. It takes a lot to carry that off.
I have worked with people with so-called unisex names. Try these ones: Ashley - Male or Female?
Lindsay?
Lynn?
Courtney?
Charlie?
Lea?
Leigh?
etc.
Answers: One of each, Male (although I know several female Lindsays, Lynseys etc), Male, Male, Female, Male, Female.

I'm female, but I've had some spiteful comments on here by posters assuming that I was male from my username.

My niece once got left at an airport because the person sent to meet her didn’t realise that “Dr Sam XX” could possibly be a woman.

Mica Paris was not pronounced Micah, it’s pronounced me-sha. I went to school with a girl named Mica and it was Me-sha.

Micah is definitely a male name, it’s a biblical name.

Cecil is 100% a boys name!

Cecile, Cecilia or Cecily are the feminine versions.

hopefulandstrong · 18/09/2019 13:41

Sasha a boys name but known more often as a girls. Even though I met 3 Sasha who were male before I ever met a female.

Also Tracy and Lindsey to me are female names but not so much in the US.

There is a girl Cecil in the Chalet school books- but I think it’s short for Cecilia.

BertrandRussell · 18/09/2019 13:44

Sasha is a male name in Russian I do feel that there is a bit of stretching going on!

hopefulandstrong · 18/09/2019 14:11

Well I was brought up in England not Russia

AuntieStella · 18/09/2019 14:22

Sasha is like Charlie. Can be a girl, but you really would expect a bloke.

It is predominantly a boy's name across Europe, including Britain.

Twisique · 18/09/2019 14:24

I like it, I quite like the podcaster Myka Fox.

MidnightMystery · 18/09/2019 14:25

Love 💕

BertrandRussell · 18/09/2019 14:29

Sasha for a boy has remained fairly consistent in the U.K. at about 11-12 a year on average since 1996. For girls it’s fluctuated between 100 and 400.

user1573354 · 18/09/2019 14:35

I looked it up on Dark Greener and there are about 10 baby girls a year named Micah (to only about 150 boys per year) I think it's so uncommon it makes no difference and sounds fine for a boy or girl.

Sunflowersy · 18/09/2019 14:40

Wow, 10 girls born in one year alone? That's quite a lot of girl Micahs!

BertrandRussell · 18/09/2019 15:51

Not out of 300000!

BertrandRussell · 18/09/2019 15:52

I don’t think I would want to call my child something that might make people think I was ignorant......

False. Statistics say many more girls are named Sasha year on year in the UK.

MikeUniformMike · 18/09/2019 19:54

I'd think of it as a girl's name but I know a male Sascha. Sacha Distel was a man. Sacha Baron Cohen is a man.

Tournesol · 18/09/2019 20:00

I know a Spanish female Maica which is pronounced exactly like Micah, if you're looking for an alternative spelling. I love the name!

Templetonstunafish · 19/09/2019 00:36

I think it's lovely. Not like you're calling her Harold is it! I wouldn't have known it as a boy's name.

AuntieStella · 19/09/2019 07:54

It's not false - and it's not a matter of birth certificate, but name that is actually in use.

it's a nickname, and the boys are Alexander/Aleksandr (just like many/most Charlies are actually Charles, or sometimes Charlotte)

Jellycat00 · 20/09/2019 10:36

It sounds pretty for a girl actually! But I'd spell it Myka to eliminate confusion for her as she goes through life.
