I want to use this name... for a GIRL

a slightly dramatic title haha.
Anyway I’m 33 weeks pg with a baby girl and the name I love for her is MICAH. I know it’s a male name but I just love it and think it works throughout life. Her dad fucked off when I was 12 weeks so it’s just me who gets to decide and hormones could be clouding my vision, so please feel free to (nicely) knock some sense into me.
I did mention the name to a close friend and she surprisingly liked it, and she’s v fussy with names.
So is it really that bad?
TIA

Mica Paris is a female singer. So not too out there.

Lovely name.

I really like it! The Dutch/German spelling for the name with the same pronunciation is Micha if you wanted that so it's less 'boyish'

pepper0ni · 15/09/2019 20:59

@mumofadoodle if it was Micha, i'd be more inclined to pronounce that as Mischa (like Mischa Barton)

Doughnot · 15/09/2019 21:01

Met a baby Myka (girl) once. She was CUTE. So I think it is a great name for a girl!

bridgetreilly · 15/09/2019 21:02

Giving boys names to girls is incredibly sexist. And if you don't see that, ask yourself why it never, ever, ever happens the other way round.

Call her Mica.

Expressedways · 15/09/2019 21:03

I actually quite like it!

DramaAlpaca · 15/09/2019 21:03

Well, you are having a girl & it is, as you say, a male name, so it doesn't really work IMO.

But it's up to you.

Bapman · 15/09/2019 21:04

Micha is lovely!

AuntieStella · 15/09/2019 21:05

I think it would be on a par with calling a girl Ezra or Elijah

Myka would be be better

cheeseandpineapple · 15/09/2019 21:05

It’s a unisex name, I know a Mika/Micah (female), great name, go for it!

lorraa · 15/09/2019 21:09

Ok a fairly positive response!!
Micha does make me read misha and Mica meeka!!
However spelling isn’t set in stone x

I think it’s beautiful

TheGirlWhoLived · 15/09/2019 21:12

I love Myka, I think Micah is too recently a ‘boy’ name (due to the butchers boy being called Micah in the game of thrones) to allow you to use the male version. But if you like it, and you find yourself looking at every ‘negative’ post with “Yeah I see your point BUT....” then it shows you love it enough to go with it!

chantico · 15/09/2019 21:16

Misha is Russian for Mike, so unless your area is not diverse you will find people will expect a Eastern European heritage boy

CoinOperatedBoy · 15/09/2019 21:23

If you like it and you yourself wouldn't have minded growing up with it and still wouldn't mind it now then no problems.

I think Mica looks feminine personally. Micah makes me think of Michael - so to me, written down I'd think male.

That's probably just me though!

The sound (Mykah) to me is totally unisex.

RuthW · 15/09/2019 21:25

I only know one Micah. She's a girl.

CoinOperatedBoy · 15/09/2019 21:27

I'm also very sorry to hear about her dad! Bastard!
Mine cheated throughout my 2nd pregnancy and then buggered off when he was 2. You & she have been saved a lot of grief are better off without him!

youarenotkiddingme · 15/09/2019 21:30

Is it a boys name?

I thought it was one of those used for both sexes?

Is only a boys name anyway if it's a boy with it Wink

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/09/2019 21:45

I think it’s very feminine on a boy. I’d go for it.

Shadow1234 · 15/09/2019 21:55

The only Micah I know is female and she is 23, (pronounced my-ka)
I think it's a lovely name for male or female. If u love it OP, then go for it!

saraclara · 15/09/2019 22:02

I think Myka is better for a girl. Sounds the same but won't be confused with the boy's name.

OVienna · 15/09/2019 22:14

I went through this phase. My cousin then named his son Micah. But I think it's fine for a girl.

WeaselsRising · 15/09/2019 22:16

DD had a friend called Mikka, pronounced Meeka

CassianAndor · 15/09/2019 22:17

I think it’s fine, it’s not totally unheard of for girls to have ‘boys’ names.

It’s not the most common name in the U.K. so I think it works fine.

(Mica Paris ins pronounced Meesha, so not the same at all).

lorraa · 15/09/2019 22:17

@CoinOperatedBoy thank you for your kind words lovely... yes we’re better without them!
