I'm looking for VERY unusual baby names (I think!)

So DS has a name that wasn't even on the ONS. It's completely unique (some may argue that it's a word and not a name!) BUT I've had the most positive reactions to it.

I'm looking for name suggestions for both genders that are along the same level as unusualness. It's important to me that it's easy to pronounce and easy to spell though.

I like the names -
Girls: Coral, Effy, Jovie, Lainie, Quinn
Boys: Atlas, Eden, Jesse, Percy

But none of them are the one!

@Sunbeam18 I've never been or will go to Scotland so it makes no difference to me.

I’m in Dublin calambalam I don’t hear anyone use the term jacks anymore, I wasn’t saying it’s not a Dublin term. I’ve heard of the name Mossy not Moss though 👍

SheChoseDown · 14/07/2019 18:51

A lady at tesco told me her son is called Darth. I love it

mathanxiety · 14/07/2019 18:55

I know of at least one Moss, aka Mossy, who would be in his late 30s, in rural SE Ireland. At least one of his forebears was also Moss, which in the case of the older man was a NN for Moses.

My rellies definitely say 'jacks', and also 'the bog'

There is an Anakin on the staff contacts database at work. He’s in a different part of the country, I have never met him, but I am assured that he is real. He has a very normal British surname.

I used to live in Scotland and I've definitely heard poo described as a jobe (joe-b). Joby is not a good name unless you are confident that your child will never leave middle England go to Scotland even then it isn't great.

Inigo is gorgeous. I know a beautiful male Spanish film maker with this name

joystir59 · 14/07/2019 21:32

B: Fabien, Fabio, Raphael, Baptiste, Valentine, Wade

Christos or Angelos for a boy.

devilishlygood · 16/07/2019 08:29

I met a girl once called Cedar. Like the wood. Think that's lovely.

IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 16/07/2019 22:47

Might be worth trawling through Shakespearean names?

Lysander
Prospero
Othello
Iago
Demetrius
Oberon
Benedict
Hamlet
Laertes
Ferdinand
Cymbeline
Petruchio

Ophelia
Andromeda
Titania
Hermia
Hero
Desdemona

Tons and tons that aren’t in common usage, albeit a fair few with less than positive connotations

IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 16/07/2019 22:51

I genuinely wanted to call DD Talisker if she’d been a boy and seriously toyed with Jura

Awesome names if you know nothing about single malt whisky

bluefriday · 17/07/2019 07:16

emmapeeler 😂

BikeRunSki · 17/07/2019 08:22

@IJumpedAboardAPirateShip - awesome names!! I really like Talisker (as a name and a drink...). I know a family of Iona, Ailsa and Arran. Dog is Skye!

AlliKaneErikson · 17/07/2019 08:55

I taught two Corals in the same year group before and I definitely think it doesn’t fit the ‘very unusual’ category. Have you looked right at the bottom of the ONS list where there are names only used 3 or 4 times, for example (I don’t think they include ones only used once- I might be wrong).

birdling · 18/07/2019 23:25

Elowen (it's what my dd should have been called, only dh didn't like it Angry)

Some botanical themed possibilities;
Alocasia

Tamarind
Oryza

Lost my enthusiasm for alphabetising things part way through there.
