I'm looking for VERY unusual baby names (I think!)

So DS has a name that wasn't even on the ONS. It's completely unique (some may argue that it's a word and not a name!) BUT I've had the most positive reactions to it.

I'm looking for name suggestions for both genders that are along the same level as unusualness. It's important to me that it's easy to pronounce and easy to spell though.

I like the names -
Girls: Coral, Effy, Jovie, Lainie, Quinn
Boys: Atlas, Eden, Jesse, Percy

But none of them are the one!

I’m amazed at some of the names that previous posters consider unusual. Kitty, Jonas, Iris?! And Arya?!

Corin was on our list for a boy but I wouldn’t bat an eyelid at a female Corin.

I also liked Auden, for a boy or girl.

Lorcan

I'm all for unusual and unique names but Joby is taking it too far.

Even if its pronounced like Moby it does not matter. The bullying would be horrific.

Ziggy and Axl are cool.
Dempsey for a girl.

I'm so curious now to know your sons name.

Bobbiepin · 11/07/2019 22:16

@bluefriday I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Mammyloveswine · 11/07/2019 22:18

What's your sons name? Will give an idea of your style..

Nautiloid · 11/07/2019 22:23

My DS has a Wren in his class, I absolutely adore that.

Surnames? This is quite common in Scotland for boys. As well as reasonably common names like Campbell or Ross, I’ve known a Grierson and a Grainger. I like these names, and the American fashion a few years ago for using Scottish sounding surnames like Mackenzie for girls too.

MorvaanReed · 11/07/2019 22:29

Nimue (Arthurian) , Hero (Shakespeare), Amaryllis, Etude, Lyric.

Dune, Nimbus, Mars, Iron, Copper, Steel.

Toomanyspoons · 11/07/2019 22:30

Vita (as in Sackville-West) or Nyssia (as in wife of Candules) - both have pedigree; both left field.

Toomanyspoons · 11/07/2019 22:32

Or Lytton (as in Strachey) for a boy.

Nameisthegame · 11/07/2019 22:34

I would have called dd Lydon from the Sex Pistols I also like our family names of Quinn and Aser

MsJuniper · 11/07/2019 22:35

I wanted to call DS2 Kester but she was a DD. I still love it though.

Gosh.

mathanxiety · 12/07/2019 04:04

Please don't name a daughter Coral. It's far too close to Oral. Coralie ditto.

Neither Lainie nor Quinn are all that unusual - quite popular in the US, esp Quinn as a boy's name.
