We have an agreed boys name & we now finally have a shortlist for girls names (it’s been painful getting to this stage!!).... would love to know what you lot think.

If you hate a name please say why & don’t worry about being rude (unless you don’t know of course!)

Thank you lovelies

Martha
Juliet
Beatrice
Matilda
Rosa
Louisa

I like Juliet, Rosa, Matilda. They're lovely names.

I don't like Martha or Beatrice but can't really explain why. To me, they're a bit harsh (and a little...ugly?). Just my opinion, though.

I'm neutral about Louisa. Don't really like it, but it's not horrible.

I'd go for Rosa or Matilda.

MrsEricBana · 05/06/2019 10:41

Love them all. Beatrice will definitely be Bea so check that works with surname. I think Juliet is utterly beautiful and extremely underused.

ThinkPinkStink · 05/06/2019 10:43

Rosa, Juliet, and Beatrice were on our short list for DD.

We would have chosen Beatrice if we didn't have a Beatrix in the family (not the same, but similar enough).

flissfloss65 · 05/06/2019 10:45

Never met a Rosa. Beautiful name

MustardScreams · 05/06/2019 10:45

I love Matilda with nn of Tilly.
Juliet & Rosa are classic and beautiful,

Martha is a bit meh, same with Louisa.
Beatrice is super common where I am, seems like every second baby is called it.

Whoops75 · 05/06/2019 10:46

Martha - can be badly pronounced mart-da
Juliet- beautiful
Beatrice - not a fan, no reason
Matilda- not a fan, again no reason
Rosa- like this a lot
Louisa-not a fan- no reason

RosaWaiting · 05/06/2019 10:49

well, I have a favourite from that list Grin

I particularly dislike Beatrice, it sounds harsh somehow.

georgie262 · 05/06/2019 10:55

I am biased but I have a Juliet and adore her name my other daughter is a Sadie (if you're interested) I like Beatrice (Beatrix was on our list) Martha , Matilda are okay. Not keen on Louisa sorry sounds a bit dated to me. My middle child gabbles out Juliet so it sounds like Jet and that is what she now calls her

georgie262 · 05/06/2019 10:56

Oh forgot Rosa - love it

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 05/06/2019 10:59

Martha- Just dislike, imagine an old frumpy housewife, with the husband shouting ‘Martha’ for his dinner!
Juliet- like the full name, hate it when it’s shortened to Julie. Reminds of that stupid song.
Beatrice- okay
Matilda- Love
Rosa- I imagine an Italian grandmother
Louisa- boring, everyone my age group has Louise as a middle name, so very similar.

I like them all except Rosa. My favourites would be Juliet and Matilda.

MarshaBradyo · 05/06/2019 11:05

My favourite is Rosa

TrixieFranklin · 05/06/2019 11:06

I love them all except Beatrice but I can't quite put my finger on why!!

PregnantSea · 05/06/2019 11:08

I like Rosa and Juliet.

The other names sound ugly and uptight to me.

Shadow1234 · 05/06/2019 11:08

Rosa is just a beautiful name.

Martha - sounds too harsh to me
Beatrice - Not too bad, don't dislike it
Juliet - Just not my cup of tea
Matilda - love this name (would be my second choice on your list)
Louisa - just an ordinary name, so doesn't grab me

killerbanana · 05/06/2019 11:10

I love Rosa! Such a beautiful simple name, the others are just a bit meh. I don't like Beatrice it makes me think of beetroot and for a second I read it as beat rice

BertrandRussell · 05/06/2019 11:10

I think Rose is much nicer than Rosa.

Saffy101 · 05/06/2019 11:11

Martha is my favourite.

BlueMerchant · 05/06/2019 11:12

Love Louisa and Martha.
Rosa is ok
Juliet- a bit pretentious
Matilda- would be nice but it now carries a common vibe imo
Beatrice- don't like but can't explain why.

Pinkvoid · 05/06/2019 11:12

Martha and Matilda are my favourites, I’d probably go with Matilda.

Astronica · 05/06/2019 11:13

They're all quite usable names and I don't dislike any, but there are some I like a lot more than others:
Juliet and Matilda are gorgeous and the standouts for me.
Louisa is a lovely classic that is not over-used.
Beatrice is nice.
Martha and Rosa are okay but just don't have the pzazz that the others have.

Peachbubble · 05/06/2019 11:14

I like Matilda or Rosa best. But I do like Martha and Louisa too!

BelulahBlanca · 05/06/2019 11:15

Martha- Cute for a baby but I don’t think it translate into an adult name.
Juliet- Beautiful, I want it as a middle name if I have another girl.

Beatrice- Ugly to my ears. I think to me it seems like picking an old fashioned name for the sake of having one.
Matilda- I taught four in the same year group last year. To me it wouldn’t matter but I’m know some people like to know about this.
Rosa- Elegant, classic, a nice twist on Rose.

Louisa- I find it quite frumpy.

notatwork · 05/06/2019 11:15

All lovely names.
Congratulations Flowers
