hi AGAIN I know I keep creating threads but I just want to find a nice name for DD which is due soon.
(last thread was on name Isabella).
our (final) shortlist is:

Isabella
Etta
Mila
Josephine
Callie

I'm really not sure which one I prefer. I LOVE Isabella but am looking for something I bit more original and not dated so not sure thats the right way to go.

anyway what do you think of these names? which is your favourite? and why?

thank you so much :) I promise this will be the last thread!

Mila. It sounds lovely, is unique (have never seen 2 Milas in one class) but is not difficult to spell/pronounce etc. I know a lovely little girl called Mila and she is so bubbly and happy, which may be why i'm so fond of it!

Ohgodwhyme · 10/05/2019 17:24

Josephine. Absolute classic and so beautiful

Ohgodwhyme · 10/05/2019 17:26

Etta reminds me of the terrorist group ETA. With mila I don’t like the ‘eel’ sound.
Callie sounds like a nickname although I know it is a flower
Isabella is beautiful too but I’d pick Josephine

Calixtine · 10/05/2019 17:26

Etta or Josephine... Actually, Etta Josephine would be perfect!

ryanreynolds · 10/05/2019 17:28

I love Callie but DH vetoed it.

Also like Etta.

Never sure how to pronounce Mila (Meela or Myla?)

Josephine is nice and elegant but not my preferred of your names

oohbubbles1 · 10/05/2019 17:32

thank you for replies :)
@Ohgodwhyme this is exactly the reason I'm holding back on Etta, but Dh really likes it Confused

@ryanreynolds we would pronounce Mila as mee-la.

I love Josephine and agree it is so classic and elegant but I don't want it to sound old ladyish ..

I love Etta and Josephine. I also like Mila plus it’s my friends name and she’s ace. I almost named DD2 Callista NN Callie but opted for Saskia last minute. There are approx a million little Isabella/Isobels at DD’s nursery and it’s not one of my favourites.

Morgan12 · 10/05/2019 17:33

Josephine is horrendous.

Like all the others but I'd say Mila was the best.

MelanieCheeks · 10/05/2019 17:33

All of those are lovely. Wait till sh's born and see which of them suits her best.

oohbubbles1 · 10/05/2019 17:37

@Aozora13 ooh, Saskia is lovely but have a close friend which recently names her baby Saskia, so its out! good choice!

@Morgan12 why do you think that Josephine is horrendous? just generally curious as it might be something I'll end up regretting if I choose to call her Josephine!

Callie 100% - just brings images of a really happy girl

Moominfan · 10/05/2019 17:37

I really like Etta and Callie

youarenotkiddingme · 10/05/2019 17:38

I like Mila but i pronounced it My-la so I think you may face that problem .

Isabella is beautiful. I know a few Isobel's that get called Izzy and it's likely she'll be a Bella or Izzy if you are happy with that?

Josephine is a lovely classic name. I'd team it with something short like Rose or Grace or May/June for a middle name.
If you feel it's too old you can always use Josie as a nn. She may become a Jo as she's older though!

Not a fan of Etta for reasons mentioned above.

Callie is a lovely name but the one I know is a pompous twat so would get a veto from me on that basis Grin

Morgan12 · 10/05/2019 17:52

I think it's an old womans name and very old fashioned.

Just doesn't suit a little girl imo.

AudacityOfHope · 10/05/2019 17:53

Etta is lovely, and Mila too but I'd pronounce it My-la.

Sometimes my nickname is Josephine and I hate it, please don't choose that!

CaitlinEJ · 10/05/2019 17:56

I absolutely love the names Callie and Mila

oohbubbles1 · 10/05/2019 17:57

@Morgan12 ah yes, these are my concerns too!

thank you for the replies!

How about Calliope nn Callie?

oohbubbles1 · 10/05/2019 18:14

@TedsBaker not keen on any longer versions of Calliope, prefer just simple Callie :)

Isabella - lovely, albei popular
Etta - sweet, but hipster
Mila - dislike, will date
Josephine - not what I'd choose but a great name
Callie - no, bit of a non-name tbh

PlatypusLeague · 10/05/2019 18:44

I like Isabella and Josephine.

Or how about Josetta with Etta for short?

Icklepup · 10/05/2019 18:59

Etta or Josephine!

susieswing65 · 10/05/2019 19:25

Josephine by far. Josie is the sweetest NN.

Etta is very faddy as is Mila. Give it three years and there will be tons of them, already met several, parents seem surprised that they are so popular already.
Isabella is gorgeous but so bored of it now. I have lost count of how many variations we know.
Callie is a nickname, sounds unfinished. Calista? Calliope?

GinUnicorn · 10/05/2019 19:29

I love Etta personally. I knew a Julietta years ago though and she was known as Etta and was the loveliest person ever so this could be bias. I also really like Isabella.

youarenotkiddingme · 10/05/2019 19:29

Callie is also short for Caroline!
