hi AGAIN I know I keep creating threads but I just want to find a nice name for DD which is due soon.
(last thread was on name Isabella).
our (final) shortlist is:

Isabella
Etta
Mila
Josephine
Callie

I'm really not sure which one I prefer. I LOVE Isabella but am looking for something I bit more original and not dated so not sure thats the right way to go.

anyway what do you think of these names? which is your favourite? and why?

thank you so much :) I promise this will be the last thread!

What if Etta marries someone who has the surname Carrott?

Myla is nicer then Mila I think. It's the Eel sound I dislike

Josephine will be Jo, which I find dated.

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 11/05/2019 05:39

Love Etta and Mila, hate Isabella, so over used and boring. Don’t like Josephine, but the diminutives are lovely. I quite like Callie, it is quite unusual these days.

Whatwillhappentomorrow · 11/05/2019 05:42

Best is Caroline with nn Callie. Also Josephine is ok. Maybe Greta.

How about Haley, June, Penelope with nn Penny or Nel, Joy, Thea?

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 11/05/2019 05:43

Callista (nn Callie) or Josephine

(Callista Josephine?)

Isabella is overrated and overused!

Lilsquish · 11/05/2019 05:44

Mila or Callie

miamiibiza · 11/05/2019 06:16

Mila

Downunderduchess · 11/05/2019 06:16

Callie most definitely, sweet, pretty girls name.

MerryMarigold · 11/05/2019 06:23

I love Josie. It's not old fashioned or old lady. Mila and Etta will days. Isabella will not date but may be a few in school. I gave my eldest dc a v popular name (dhv Conservative, couldn't agree on anything) and it has been fine. I like the diminutive, which is what I call him. Plus he has the coolest middle name ever!

MerryMarigold · 11/05/2019 06:25

Dh is conservative at a small c. Phone just 'corrected' it again. Not sure why it thinks dh is a Tory.

AudacityOfHope · 11/05/2019 10:01

Maybe she'll just keep her own name @pineapplepatty

Mintypea5 · 11/05/2019 10:09

Josephine or Callie. Beautiful names

regularbutpanickingabit · 11/05/2019 10:39

Isabella - Very pretty and classic but yes, popular. Depends whether that bothers you or not.
Etta - Absolutely love Etta James and so have a big soft spot for this. Love it.
Mila - Very pretty and I would happily use it but people do confuse the pronunciation so would that bother you?
Josephine - awful name. Nearly always the frumpy, grumpy mean and spoilt girl in literature. Sorry. I am sure there are lots of lovely josephines who are not mean and spoilt but that's what the name conjures up. Josie is ok.
Callie - makes me think of the character in Grey's Anatomy and she was fab. Nice name. More american than the rest.

oohbubbles1 · 11/05/2019 11:30

thank you for all the replies- seems like Callie is a winner. I've spent so long mulling over it, following someones advice, if I don't have a clear winner by the time she is born, I'll see what name she suits :)
Also- for those suggesting Calliope, I actually rather like it but Dh says it sounds like a wood creature (he says it reminds him of 'trolls and gnomes'. Men.) x

Josephine is a beautiful name.

diddlediddle · 11/05/2019 16:08

Josephine sounds fresh but also classic and beautiful. It's on my list.

Callie and Mila second choices, both nice. Would prefer Callie to be short for something... but it is also nice on its own. if you like these two what about Camilla?

Not keen on the others

diddlediddle · 11/05/2019 16:11

Also agree with pps that Josephine won't date but Mila and Callie will. Depends how much you care about that.

Also, if you choose Josephine, which I hope you, please don't choose Rose, Grace or May as a middle name as per suggestion by pp - these are the middle names of approx 95% of girls born in the last 5 years Confused

pineapplepatty · 11/05/2019 19:05

Callista might be ok.

I know a Caroline who is Callie.

OohItsTheSoundOfThePolice · 11/05/2019 19:26

Isabella or Josephine for me.

Mila is a little close to Milia/millium for me.

I like Etta.

Callie is ok, but feels a little unfinished.

mothertobe789 · 11/05/2019 22:13

Callie! This is my nieces name and it's just gorgeous, like her!

missmouse101 · 11/05/2019 22:16

Callie (or Cassie) is my fave. Mila is awful due to the ugly 'mealy'' sound.

Tillygetsit · 11/05/2019 22:57

I know a baby Callia. I love that. Or Josetta as a pop said. That's gorgeous and has so many nn opportunities.

CoffeeRunner · 11/05/2019 23:00

I work on an elderly care ward. We currently have 4 Josephine’s with us. That in itself doesn’t worry me. The fact that every single one hates their name & asks to be called by something different does.

TildaTurnip · 12/05/2019 14:54

I wonder if that is a generational trend as none of my grandparents went by their first name. One goes by Brenda (her middle name) even though her first name is, IMO, much nicer (Emily).

TatianaLarina · 12/05/2019 15:15

I have a friend called Josephine my age who loves her name.

Marty93 · 14/05/2019 18:26

Josephine - timeless. Can shorten to Josie / Jo / Joss when she is older.
