Baby boy due today and still don't have a name decided. Don't even have a shortlist to "see what he looks like". Came across this name last night and I kinda love it but don't know if I'm having a moment of madness because I don't love anything else and I'm climbing the walls waiting for him to arrive.

What are your thoughts?? Have a toddler called Eli, if that helps.

Fox? Like the TV channel that loves Trump?

HundredMilesAnHour · 04/05/2019 20:34

No. Just no. Sounds like you're trying to find an alternative to Wolf, which is an equally excruciating name. Please don't do this to your child. There are so many lovely names out there. Fox is not one of them.

Ohyesiam · 04/05/2019 20:35

Good for a soft toy, but not an actual person.

bobstersmum · 04/05/2019 20:35

The truth is out there!

ThisIsTheEndgame · 04/05/2019 20:35

25 years of watching The X Files has trained my ears to think of this as a very nice name. Mulder 4eva.

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 04/05/2019 20:35

I saw another thread on this name the other week - I dont dislike this name but I think you kind of have to be a certain type of family to pull it off if that makes sense? It's a strong, celebrity sounding name so I think youd have to be quite a hipster, boho, relaxed type of family?

WellErrr · 04/05/2019 20:36

As long as your surname isn’t Sake?

GoodPlaceJanet · 04/05/2019 20:37

I love it! Was on our list but no more DC for us now.

FoxSquadKitten · 04/05/2019 20:37

I love it and I love Fox Mulder

NannyPear · 04/05/2019 20:40

I know what you mean Molly and I don't think that's us! But I also don't think it would surprise people if we chose a slightly unusual name.

Please not fox!

TrumpsFerret · 04/05/2019 20:43

Love it op, really do - but I think it is a trend and will be very dated to be honest. If that doesn't bother you though run with it. Unusual names are more commonplace now so I don't think we know how it will all pan out! Maybe trends will be less profound.

troppibambini · 04/05/2019 20:44

I love it.
I tried to convince dh to use it for ds1 but he was having none of it. It's such a shame as he would have really suited it he's got red fox coloured hair and a cool dude. I even tried for his middle name but it was a firm no.

NannyPear · 04/05/2019 20:45

Thanks namechange. Interesting that Max comes up. I like it but didn't think it went with Eli.

Difficulty with Eli is that it's a strong biblical name and I don't particularly want to continue that theme.

Fox sake, no.

NannyPear · 04/05/2019 20:49

Ooh it's very love hate isn't it.

On the trend name front I do agree, but it's still not popular enough to be an era name (like my own - you could guess my age easily from it!). DH loves Leo and can't see passed it. I like it but it's risen so much in popularity that it would become one of those names.

For example, in 2018 in Scotland there were 9 Fox's and 300 Leo's. I don't need a rare or unusual name, but don't want a popular-for-2019 name.

Ds2 was going to be a Fox. Ds1 complained that he couldn't be Fox as he didn't have a shiny black nose. He would have been a great Fox. Do it!

Reminds me of that joke

Wear the fox hat

JenniferJareau · 05/05/2019 01:28

I like it but that's because I immediately think Mulder.

Rosesaredead · 05/05/2019 01:34

Noooo! Especially not with an Eli which is cool and biblical. Fox will date so badly and seem ridiculous in a few years time when the fad is over

MumUnderTheMoon · 05/05/2019 01:37

I really like Fox, always have. Other boys names I like are Parker, Dawson, Devlin, Jarvis, Davis and Kitt if they're any good to you.

SundayMondayHappydays · 05/05/2019 02:18

I agree with PP. Kit is a good suggestion

soworriedforhim · 05/05/2019 02:22

Love Fox!
