Would you use a name that is from a popular tv show?

Thinking of names for a possible son, and I cant get past a name I love, and I like no other names. However, it is a name which if people watch the show will immediately make the connection. He's not a major character, but I've not heard of any other person with that name!
Would you eyeroll and judge? Or would you not even think about it?

what is the name OP? i think it would depend

fluffiphlox · 01/05/2019 20:55

Is it from Game of Thrones? Greyworm?

HastaLaVistaPrint · 01/05/2019 20:55

If it’s a made up name from GOT my judgy pants would be hoiked so high they’d getting mascara on them.

RiverMeadow · 01/05/2019 20:56

If it's a made up GOT name then no. If it's something like Dexter, it's completely acceptable.

Iwantacookie · 01/05/2019 20:56

I wouldn't worry.
After I had ds2 everyone asked me if I got the name from some show (can't even remember the name of it now) that everyone was watching.
Ide never seen the show and just picked the name coz we liked it.

Beachbodynowayready · 01/05/2019 20:59

My dd had a name from Home and Away well back in the day!! The character is long gone!! Never gave it a thought then or now tbh.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 01/05/2019 21:00

Theon? Not the first thread about that name if so. I really wouldn’t.

Now, if it was Cassian from Rogue One I would totally go for that.

churchthecat · 01/05/2019 21:00

It's Hodor isn't it.

MonstranceClock · 01/05/2019 21:01

It is a made up GoT name Blush

The shortening of it would be same nickname of my late husband, which I think is why it's appealing to me most. And it's a little different.

I know an Ayra (From GOT) and a Jaxon named specifically after Sons of Anarchy.

I don't know. In some ways I think it's nice, in another I think it's terrible.

CloudRusting · 01/05/2019 21:02

If it is a “proper” name that just happens to have been used in a tv series that would be fine. If it was made up for the tv show eg Game of Thrones then it would be a no from me.

MonstranceClock · 01/05/2019 21:02

There's a Theon in my daughters class at school!

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 01/05/2019 21:04

Hahaha! There was a Thorin (Hobbit) at DD’s nursery.

Is it Jorah? I think that can work as a name. Some will work, some won’t, some are awful characters, some aren’t.

elQuintoConyo · 01/05/2019 21:04

I asked my daughter, Seven-of-Nine, and she said she's never been bothered by it Grin

ThisIsTheEndgame · 01/05/2019 21:04

There was a Khaleesi in my daughter's class. What name is it? Benjen, Rickon, Eddard? Don't call him Joffrey please.

MonstranceClock · 01/05/2019 21:05

It's not Jorah (although I really love Jorah too!)

It's Jaqen, but he would be Jackie for short.

heyd · 01/05/2019 21:05

We need to know the name Grin
Tyri? Grey? Kahl?

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 01/05/2019 21:06

I wouldn't OP 😬

FlowTeeBowTee · 01/05/2019 21:08

Is it Gendry? Tormund? Joffrey? Jorah?

FlowTeeBowTee · 01/05/2019 21:11

Cross post.. oops
But anyway I’m not sure people would really link it with got, years down the line anyway.. I watch it and I always thought he didn’t have a name!

WoollyMummoth · 01/05/2019 21:14

Afraid I’d eye roll and judge. Made up tv names just sound shit and silly. Why not just call him Jackie which is great on it’s own.

GraceMarks · 01/05/2019 21:14

I don't know... he was a bit of a dick as far as minor characters go, although the actor is kind of hot. I would just go for Jack, which could become Jackie.

Or Hot Pie.

MonstranceClock · 01/05/2019 21:15

I don't like Jackie as a full, proper name. My daughters class is full of really out there names so I'm hoping I won't be judged in this area at least!

Crystalblue13 · 01/05/2019 21:17

I know a Theon and a few Aryas! Jaqen is ok, at least it’s not Joffrey or Ramsay!

GraceMarks · 01/05/2019 21:17

On the other hand, he might get a load of smart-arses saying "a boy has no name" to him...
