Friend named her girl Scarlett-June

My best friend just named her daughter Scarlett-June. I usually think hyphenated names are tacky (think Lily-May) and I've never ever liked them.
But unlike the other hyphenated tacky names out there, I think Scarlett-June is just gorgeous! It's so picturesque and beautiful. Scarlett is really spunky but then you had the -June on the end and you get a great name (I think).
So, my question (and my friend's) is are ALL hyphenated names tacky? Do you like the name Scarlett-June?
btw my friend asked me to make this thread, she's given the thumbs up, don't worry!
I'm interested to hear your thoughts! x

To be fair @LittleMissMummaBear you probably wouldn't have got such harsh replies if you hadn't immediately thrown in that all other hyphenated names were "tacky'".

If you introduce yourself with some "not very nice" comments, specifically about a type of name, I'd have thought it was pretty obvious you will get a lot of people's backs up and receive bitchy replies in return.

THMT is presumably The Handmaid’s Tale, despite the fact that Handmaid is one word. The protagonist is named June.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 20/04/2019 19:50

I really like Scarlett-June (I knew June was up for a revival!) but its doesn't work as a double barrelled name at all. It doesn't roll off the tongue like Lily-Rose, Marie-Claire, Ava-Mae etc (I'm not a fan of double barrelled first names tbh, most of the time they are a bit fussy).

Lol at 'Not a family I would associate with'. 😂

whiskeysourpuss · 20/04/2019 19:54

Meh it's not the worst double barrelled girls name I've come across... I used to have a brownie called Xavier-Jinx

Inmyownlittlecorner · 20/04/2019 19:56

My friends daughter is at school with a Queenie Jean. She thought it was hyphenated, but realised when she got a party invite that it’s Queeniejean. I like it, even though I’m not a fan of hyphenated names in general!

NotOnTheBench · 20/04/2019 19:56

Um. Don't really care. She's the Mum. She can call her whatever she likes.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 20/04/2019 19:59

I have a cousin called Scarlett- the name everyone likes to throw around is ‘Scarlett the harlot’ - she’s in a long term relationship since her teens, has a gorgeous little girl, so the name doesn’t make sense. But the rhyming does to a lot of people. She’s walked into pubs and had men shout ‘here’s scarlet the harlot’. She now goes by her middle name. Oh and her name is hyphened and she HATES it. She thinks it makes her sound like a baby.

jacksonmaine · 20/04/2019 20:00

I hate double-barrelled names too. I know someone and their DD's name is DB and I always forget the second name. I say the first part and as I try to remember the second their DM always barks the second crossly as I'm about to say it! Grin

I used to like the woman but avoid her now to save embarrassment. The name is a bloody mouthful too and doesn't roll off the tongue. All her DC have DB names!

PineapplePatty · 20/04/2019 20:04

I'm a teacher and CBA to keep saying hyphened names.

SJ sounds dreadful though so it'd be Scarlett I think.

wlv12 · 20/04/2019 20:08

I dislike initial names even more than double barrelled names - sorry.

sanmiguel · 20/04/2019 20:13

No sorry. Don't like either of the names or together but who cares? I don't care who likes my name or the name of DC!

LittleMissMummaBear · 20/04/2019 20:17

So sorry if anyone took the initial post in a wrong way, my friend dictated what to say although I made the mistake to post the thread of course. Thank you for the replies though, my friend finds them...interesting x

I like SJ. Congratulations on your baby, no point playing along that it's your friend's.

LittleMissMummaBear · 20/04/2019 20:21

@Sagradafamiliar what is this even supposed to mean? I’m pregnant with twins which I will name Casper and Thomas and have girls called Ella and Ava. Its truly my friend’s baby

@PineapplePatty do you mean that you'd call a pupil a name you preferred rather than their actual name?! I'm sure you can't mean that 😱

Haffiana · 20/04/2019 20:24

Ess-Jay.

Ess-Jai.
Ess-Jae.

Why not cut out the longer version entirely and go with the above? I personally think they are utterly ugly, but at least you can see what you are getting IYSWIM.

BackforGood · 20/04/2019 20:26

Has the OP's 2nd thread, about this thread, been pulled? I was 1/2 way through posting and it seems to have disappeared but not on my 'Threads I'm on' as having been pulled??

HungryForSnacks · 20/04/2019 20:27

@BackforGood yeah it was pulled by MNHQ as it was a TAAT

Hithereitsme · 20/04/2019 20:28

@HungryForSnacks what does TAAT mean? Looked like she is getting some pretty hurtful comments on this thread and the other too

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/04/2019 20:31

Threat about a thread.

Although both were started by the same OP so it’s not as if they were gossiping behind someone’s back.

notso · 20/04/2019 20:33

Scarlett June is lovely.
Scarlett-June is a bit of a mouthful and 'm not a fan of hyphenated names.
SJ is awful.

Ribbonsonabox · 20/04/2019 20:53

I think its lovely. Reminds me of that painting called Flaming June.

Ihatesundays · 20/04/2019 21:15

I met someone with 3 girls who all had double barrelled names. She would jump down your throat if you didn’t use the full names.
They are all adults now and all just use the first parts of their names.

mabelsgarden · 20/04/2019 21:19

Nope sorry OP.

mabelsgarden · 20/04/2019 21:20

Not a huge fan of hyphenated names. Especially when the second one is 'MAE' instead of 'May.' Just makes me cringe a bit.

Also I have to say that I really am not keen on Scarlett-June.

Sorry.
