Friend named her girl Scarlett-June

My best friend just named her daughter Scarlett-June. I usually think hyphenated names are tacky (think Lily-May) and I've never ever liked them.
But unlike the other hyphenated tacky names out there, I think Scarlett-June is just gorgeous! It's so picturesque and beautiful. Scarlett is really spunky but then you had the -June on the end and you get a great name (I think).
So, my question (and my friend's) is are ALL hyphenated names tacky? Do you like the name Scarlett-June?
btw my friend asked me to make this thread, she's given the thumbs up, don't worry!
I'm interested to hear your thoughts! x

If she likes it I don’t really see why she’s asking.

As a rule I don’t like hyphenated names and I’m afraid I don’t see this name as any exception.

JugzyMalone · 20/04/2019 15:45

She could be like Scar-Jo but instead Scar-Jew

willowandsage · 20/04/2019 15:47

I don't have an issue with hyphenated names, but Scarlett-June doesn't go at all.

darkparadise1 · 20/04/2019 15:48

I think it's lovely Smile

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 20/04/2019 15:48

Lol at 'picturesque and beautiful ' name being abandoned for SJ Grin

englishdictionary · 20/04/2019 15:50

Your friend gave you permission to ask Mumsnet if we like her child's name?

Why? What difference does it make?

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 20/04/2019 15:51

I really don't get the point of carefully choosing a name for your child and then calling it something else entirely. SJ is ridiculous!

englishdictionary · 20/04/2019 15:52

Omg haha sorry for not RTFT!!!

She will go by SJ Hmm

Yep. That's a thing!

brizzlemint · 20/04/2019 16:01

I quite like Scarlett with June as a middle name, but the hyphen is totally unnecessary & doesn't add anything IMO

Other than the hyphen of course Grin

Scarlet on it's own is OK ish (apart from Scarlet woman....) but the two together don't work IMO.

MsLayla · 20/04/2019 16:02

Two lovely names. But not together so much. It takes something away from each of them.

I love June.

Not a fan of the Ellie-May / Ella-Rose type names either. Not necessarily 'tacky' just a bit meh.

Luaa · 20/04/2019 16:02

I like Scarlet June but not Scarlet-June.

Absolutely no need to hyphenate it.

Figgygal · 20/04/2019 16:03

I don't like hyphenated names generally

Scarlett is quite a long name to combine with something else i would expect most people will shorten it

Littlechocola · 20/04/2019 16:03
Biscuit
redstapler · 20/04/2019 16:04

hideous. but if your friend is happy then fine, the girl will no doubt drop a large chunk of the name and go by a nickname.

BelulahBlanca · 20/04/2019 16:05

So it’s tacky if other people do it but not your friend?

PutyourtoponTrevor · 20/04/2019 16:06

Not a fan and how can a name be picturesque? I guess mum isn't that keen either if she's going to go by SJ.

Twisique · 20/04/2019 16:06

It sounds like a description, Blue John, Red Len, Scarlett June.

RomanyQueen1 · 20/04/2019 16:06

I don't think they are tacky at all, unless they are stupid made up names and then I'd say pretentious rather than tacky.

NabooThatsWho · 20/04/2019 16:06

Tacky, sorry!whenever I hear someone shouting out a double barrelled name I just think 'twat'. Nobody needs two first names!

And nobody needs to be so nasty and judgemental, and yet.....here you are 🤷🏻‍♀️

statetrooperstacey · 20/04/2019 16:12

She asked ^^

autumndreaming · 20/04/2019 16:13

I think all hyphenated names are tacky. I just don't understand why you would put it there, it's so much more classic and less of a hassle to just be Scarlett June.

TheGrey1houndSpeaks · 20/04/2019 16:14

It’s fairly dreadful, tbh

SleepingStandingUp · 20/04/2019 16:16

I don't think it's tacky but I don't get it. It's either shorted any way or its a mouthful for the rest of her life. There's a Summer-Louise at school, it's lovely - but it's two big names for one little girl!

SleepingStandingUp · 20/04/2019 16:19

And going by SJ makes even less sense. It isn't a name, it's initials, and quite harsh ones. Small people's manes normally get softened when they're little

ricepuddingme · 20/04/2019 16:19

Surely it's no ones business but the family who are actually naming the baby?

I don't get posting it on a public forum for people to criticise, especially when it's not your baby?
