Friend named her girl Scarlett-June

My best friend just named her daughter Scarlett-June. I usually think hyphenated names are tacky (think Lily-May) and I've never ever liked them.
But unlike the other hyphenated tacky names out there, I think Scarlett-June is just gorgeous! It's so picturesque and beautiful. Scarlett is really spunky but then you had the -June on the end and you get a great name (I think).
So, my question (and my friend's) is are ALL hyphenated names tacky? Do you like the name Scarlett-June?
btw my friend asked me to make this thread, she's given the thumbs up, don't worry!
I'm interested to hear your thoughts! x

I'm not a fan, the names don't flow very well do they? Also don't like hyphenated names either.

Witchofzog · 20/04/2019 16:25

Why do people on here have to resort to being so nasty? I bet you would not do this in real life.

Op - I like Scarlett. Not so keen on June but I imagine it possibly has a family connection for your friend which is lovely. People will always inevitably shorten any name regardless and Scarlett-June will decide which version of her name she likes when she is older

DonPablo · 20/04/2019 16:26

I live June, especially after THMT.

DonPablo · 20/04/2019 16:27

love

staydazzling · 20/04/2019 16:27

one of mine is called Saoirse-Rae, (Sersha - Ray) not everyones cup of tea couldnt give 2 hoots really

grincheux · 20/04/2019 16:28

I really don't like Scarlett as a name hyphenated or not - it sounds itchy.

staydazzling · 20/04/2019 16:28

I like Scarlett-June, it's different

youarenotkiddingme · 20/04/2019 16:29

Don't dislike hyphenated names at all myself.

Although it's April so Scarlett April (without hyphen) would have been a better choice imo.

Do love Scarlett as a name though.

MyNewBearTotoro · 20/04/2019 16:31

I don’t like Scarlett-June as it sounds clunky to me. I think hyphens are a bit tacky but even worse when they’re ‘adjective noun.’ Scarlett-June sounds like a description and not a name.

However none of it really matters if she’s going by SJ. Why even pick a name you think is beautiful if you’re just going to use initials. Essjay is not a beautiful name to me and initial names are undeniably tackier than hyphens.

MulderitsmeX · 20/04/2019 16:39

Ooh great name! I hadn't ever thought of the name June but it's gorgeous! Also i love gone with the wind so also love scarlett and would defo call a daughter Katie Scarlett if i had one.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 20/04/2019 16:40

Doesn't sounds great to me, but I do like the name Scarlett.

Anyway though if the mum likes it then surely that's all that matters not the MN jury?

Bumblebeesmum · 20/04/2019 16:40

I don’t know that I would want to give my opinion of a name specific to a newborn & with a Mum who’s just given birth likely to read.

Wheresmyvagina · 20/04/2019 16:42
Grin Scarlett-June is dreadful but to compound it by calling her SJ is bizarre. Why?
englishdictionary · 20/04/2019 16:43

Everyone giving their opinions on Scarlett-June when the kids is going to be called SJ Grin

AvengersAssemble · 20/04/2019 16:46

I love the name Scarlett but not June, but I can see why they would choose it if it has a sentimental reason behind it.

WoodenToyKitchen · 20/04/2019 16:49

SJ is even tackier than the hyphenated name

missmouse101 · 20/04/2019 16:52

It's ok but would be SO much better without the hyphen.

Sessy19 · 20/04/2019 16:52

Scarlett is quite a nice name, it’s just a bit overdone here unfortunately.

I know a child called Phoebe Grace, not hyphenated, just FN-MN, but her mother insists on calling out her whole name when calling her over and it kind of rubs my teeth a bit! 😂 That said, I actually have nothing against hyphenated names in general, per se. Shame so many are just two pretty boring names shoved together IMO!!! 😂😂

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 20/04/2019 16:55

SJ does not even sound nice very harsh, the only initial name that works is JR and your surname has to be Ewing or Hartley.

OwnerOfThatChocolateBar · 20/04/2019 17:06

Tacky, sorry!whenever I hear someone shouting out a double barrelled name I just think 'twat'. Nobody needs two first names! And all her friends will call her Scarlett.

Ginger1982 · 20/04/2019 17:25

Sorry the two names don't go together at all and if she likes it so much, why use SJ?

MegsUterus · 20/04/2019 17:29

Do you like the name Scarlett-June?

No, it’s awful. Poor kid.

NellysKnickers · 20/04/2019 17:34

I love the name and I'm not usually a fan of hyphenated names

Topseyt · 20/04/2019 17:39

I would go for Scarlett June without the hyphen and probably just call her Scarlett.

I like the name Scarlett, but not so keen on June. Is June in honour of a family member? Is that why it is being considered?

FatFreda · 20/04/2019 17:42

No i don't think hyphenated names are tacky.

Tacky is publicly slagging off other people's choices or actions.

We all have different tastes thank goodness. Adds to the variety of life. I may not always be keen on another persons choice of name but would never dream if saying so.
