Friend named her girl Scarlett-June

My best friend just named her daughter Scarlett-June. I usually think hyphenated names are tacky (think Lily-May) and I've never ever liked them.
But unlike the other hyphenated tacky names out there, I think Scarlett-June is just gorgeous! It's so picturesque and beautiful. Scarlett is really spunky but then you had the -June on the end and you get a great name (I think).
So, my question (and my friend's) is are ALL hyphenated names tacky? Do you like the name Scarlett-June?
btw my friend asked me to make this thread, she's given the thumbs up, don't worry!
I'm interested to hear your thoughts! x

both nice names but terrible hyphenated. SJ is awful

NabooThatsWho · 20/04/2019 17:46

She asked ^^

It’s one thing to say you don’t like a name. It’s another to say that anyone that calls their child a double-barrelled name is a twat. It’s just unnecessarily nasty.

EssentialHummus · 20/04/2019 17:46

Not to my taste but if she’s happy, meh.

NewSchoolNewName · 20/04/2019 17:51

I really don’t see the point in asking about this when she’s already named the baby and is set on the name.

Even if it’s not to everyone’s taste there’s nothing wrong with it, or with hyphenating names.

Sakura7 · 20/04/2019 17:56

I think it's fairer to the child to leave the hyphen out. Give her the two names, and when she's older she can decide for herself if she wants to go by both, or just one.

Applesbananaspears · 20/04/2019 17:57

I detest the name Scarlett but I think June is rather sweet but it’s a bit much together

doublenames · 20/04/2019 17:59

A lot of people dislike double barrelled names, which is fair enough I don't like every name I hear at soft play! My DD is called Macey-Jane (name changed to post) and iv never heard it before DD, people ask me her name and when I tell them they always say its such a lovely name.

I think names such as Ava-Mae / Ella-Mae became 'tacky' because every woman and her friend started using those names once they started coming out, and everyone always used Mae as the 'second' name.

I love my daughters name and think it really suits her and at least I know she wont be 'Emma T' at school 😁 I think you should name your child what your happy with.

doublenames · 20/04/2019 18:01

@Bloomburger you wouldn't associate with a family over a name? Im sure they wouldnt want to associate with you either if your that much of a snob Grin

UCOinanOCG · 20/04/2019 18:01

It brought to mind for me Flaming June.

I don't mind a hyphenated name like Mary-Kate, Sally-Anne etc. Scarlett-June is definitely a bit rough, as is SJ, but at least it's not another Tilly-Grace.

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/04/2019 18:15

DD1 was at school with a child called Emily-Maeve. It doesn’t exactly trip off the tongue with ease.

reallybadidea · 20/04/2019 18:20

Scarlett-June is only marginally less awful than SJ.

GemmeFatale · 20/04/2019 18:20

Not a big fan of randomly hyphenated first names.

Scarlett-June makes me think of THMT, but not in a good way.

But I’m fairly sure you and your friend would hate my baby name short list.

BackforGood · 20/04/2019 18:51

What is bad, is that you think it is okay to splash your friend's child's name all over the internet. Hmm

It's got to be a pretty identifiable name - maybe she doesn't want to hear the opinions of thousands of strangers ?

Wheresmyvagina · 20/04/2019 19:09

@doublenames to be fair I'd probably say 'that's a lovely name' to anyone who told me their kid's name even if I thought it was awful

Rumbletum2 · 20/04/2019 19:12

Ghastly.

bridgetreilly · 20/04/2019 19:17

SJ is a really weird initial name to use as a nickname. It's hard to say and with two great names like Scarlett and June to use, I really don't know why you'd pick that.

LittleMissMummaBear · 20/04/2019 19:32

Alright, there have been some really not very nice comments on here HmmConfused but I’m the one who agreed to make the thread so hey ho I guess. I too personally prefer shorter no hyphen names (my girls are Ella and Ava), my friend was just very curious as to what people thought! Everyone can go and calm down now! Xx

Also to those saying I shouldn’t splash her name choice, she is the one who asked me to make the thread...! Blush

Double barrelled names are awful. Scarlett-June is no exception to that.

However she'll be known as Scarlett before she's three.

Merril · 20/04/2019 19:35

Scarlett-June makes me think of THMT, but not in a good way.

What's THMT?

mathanxiety · 20/04/2019 19:36

I really dislike the name Scarlett but hyphens are fine imo.

I grew up in Ireland with lots of Anne-Maries, Marie-Louises, Marie-Thereses, Mary-Clares, John-Pauls. I don't see the tackiness at all..

Elllicam · 20/04/2019 19:40

I actually really like Scarlett-June. I have synesthesia and see words as colours and the colours are beautiful together.
