Names you dislike/don't get?

There are some names like Connie and Matilda.... Popular ones that I hate and just don't get.
Any names that are popular you just don't get?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Ottermum23 · 12/03/2019 19:51

Anything hyphenated.
And all the cutie ones, like Macey, Lacey, Darcey, Poppy, Mollie etc...
I have two DDs in primary, I hardly ever meet anyone with strong names.
Loads of Lexi, Teegan, Ollie, Teddy, Harley, Kasey, Jayden..

I always think, (and hope) that my children will have a good job, it's hard to imagine a solicitor or a doctor called Teddy or Lexi, sorry.

pineapplebryanbrown · 12/03/2019 19:53

My name has appeared as both a like and a loathe on this thread Grin

Names I love but shouldn't

Summer
Shannon
Jade
Maxine
Michaela
Julie
Louise

chocolatelog · 12/03/2019 19:53

None of my children's names are here yet 👀🙈

Ottermum23 · 12/03/2019 19:55

Nor mine, chocolatelog

One of mine called Harriet, which I absolutely adore

TellerTuesday4EVA · 12/03/2019 19:58

Nevaeh is just horrific.... it's heaven backwards, oh right that makes it better then!

Willow, Harlow etc - make me want to vomit

Jayden - I've known lots & every one has been a little twat

Millie, Maisie, Daisy etc

In fact there isn't a lot of names around at the minute that I can say I like at all... think I was possibly born into the wrong era

DavetheCat2001 · 12/03/2019 20:04

Everyone thinks their chosen kids names are amazing and/or unique.

Then you read yet another of these threads where your choisen names are shat all over. 🙄

Never think the name(s) you have carefully chosen are cooler/classical/ more considered than anyone else's as someone will be there to denounce it as 'chavvy', too popular/cutesy/old gimmer/ridiculous etc..

Bellatrix14 · 12/03/2019 20:10

I don’t like Millie, Molly or Maisie, especially when they’re not a shortening of anything. I just find them very ‘wet’ sounding.

I’m not a fan of some of the very old fashioned boys names that are popular now either. Things like Reggie, Arthur, Archie etc

Bamchic · 12/03/2019 20:23

Neveah because why call your kid heaven backwards?
And Dulcie, because I can’t say it without thinking about Dulce du leche or however you spell it.

MondeoFan · 12/03/2019 20:34

I really dislike names like Bailey so chavvy

999caffeineplease · 12/03/2019 20:37

I love boring 90s names (Leanne, Laura, Sarah etc) purely because most of them can’t be shortened naturally, and I don’t particularly like a lot of nicknames. Similarly people giving names while fully intending to call their child something completely different.

Eg Genevieve nn Ivy, just call your child Ivy ffs.

I also hate the try hard names, the threads on here that are like “looking for a sibling name that fits with siblings Tarquin, Allegra and Clementine Eugenia” make me laugh. What ever happened to James and Mary etc

katseyes7 · 12/03/2019 20:38

Skylar. l just don't get it. lt sounds like a made up name.

Espressomartin · 12/03/2019 20:45

My kid has a unique name and surname thanks to his European father. Its solid but commented on as being “cool”. It makes him stand out in a good way.

999caffeineplease · 12/03/2019 20:52

I’m a very big fan of children having names that reflect their heritage. My brother and I were given first names that work in both cultures and two middle names - one for each grandmother/grandfather and therefore one for each culture.

It made me feel closer to the side I didn’t see much, and I’d give my children names that also work in both cultures.

Fatted · 12/03/2019 20:53

My eldest has what is traditionally a last name as his first name. It's the surname version of DH's name which probably makes it even worse. But I like it so don't really care. Although a teacher remarked that his full name sounds like a solicitors firm. Grin

I can't stand the name Harrison. I don't know why. I just assume people wanted to their kid to have Harry as a nickname but didn't realise it was a nickname for Henry.

I also don't like names ending in son for girls. Or what I would class as 'nick names' or abbreviated names as the full name. So Freddie, Teddy, Bobby, Ollie etc.

I do think parents worry too much about giving their kids a unique name. The irony is we gave our youngest a more traditional name which was quite common when I was a child. He's definitely the only one with that name in his class at school.

HarrietM87 · 12/03/2019 20:54

@lilabet2 Ruth is literally the opposite of ruthless 🤣

I’m not a fan of surnames as names - Cooper, Mason, Grayson, Jackson. Jackson in particular - why would you call your child “Jack’s son” (unless their dad was Jack I guess...).

Also dislike the trend of taking Irish surnames and using them as first names when you have zero connection to Ireland - have seen Murphy, Kennedy, Brady and Quinn crop up a lot.

ThunderR0ad78 · 12/03/2019 20:58

Colin

ThunderR0ad78 · 12/03/2019 21:01

Stacy!

JazzyBBG · 12/03/2019 21:06

I love the names Florence and Constance! Florence was a contender for my DD's name but I was worried it would end up as popular as Amelia or Grace so it became middle name. I still love it though. Another thing to blame David Cameron for 😂 (he has a Florence)

Names can't stand -
Logan
Tyler
Craig
Evie (yet love Eve and Eva)
Teddy - agree with PP it is weird
Maisie
Alfie - sounds like a dog

Names people think are unusual but aren't-
Sienna (every baby seems to be called it at present)
Jessica
Louis - there are FOUR in DD's class

Names I feel weird about-
May
Rose
I love these but they are so overused in middle names.

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 12/03/2019 21:10

Names for whey-faced Victorians eg. Florence, Harriet, Wilfred, Rupert.

SnowdropsiUnderTrees · 12/03/2019 21:53

Teddy. I just think it's crazy on a teenager. It's fine as a nick name for a baby though.

Moroder · 12/03/2019 21:53

I’m a Ruth and often tell people it’s short for Ruthless Wink

RuthW · 12/03/2019 22:01

Hate Ruth. Why would you call a child Ruth? What were my parents thinking l?

I also hate Jessica, Abigail, lily and Eleanor.

My dd is Florence which I see a lot of you hate!

Moroder · 12/03/2019 22:05

RuthW I was Wendy for the first 2 days of my life. How did my mum get from Wendy to Ruth? I’m bloody glad she did though

Ghostwriter90 · 12/03/2019 22:08

Ruth is the ugliest name. I'm so embarrassed when ppl find out my middle name.
I blame hormones

itsnotso · 12/03/2019 22:12

Glad it's not just me who has a dislike of Teddy 🤷🏻‍♀️
