There are some names like Connie and Matilda.... Popular ones that I hate and just don't get.
Any names that are popular you just don't get?!

@Ribbonsonabox that is crazy you should say that as someone I don't like one bit and is a convicted rapist has a son called Teddy...

Wedgiecar58 · 13/03/2019 09:33

My mam was Ethel. l don't know what possesses anybody to look at a baby and think "we'll call her Ethel!"

Oh, I think Ethel is so pretty.

Ian. It is just a noise.

Agree. Also hate Dean and Gary.

Wedgiecar58 · 13/03/2019 09:38

@Petitprince I've spent too long in courts (for work) hearing the names of the accused, and the same names crop up again and again, so I always avoid those!

Oh, do share!

Tilly
Millie
Lily

I guess there could be a theme Grin

finallyfound · 13/03/2019 09:46

Also Rachel.

Sounds so spiky.

finallyfound · 13/03/2019 09:47

And Otto. Sorry it seems the name rage is now pouring out of me.

aliceandkids77 · 13/03/2019 09:56

My least favourite names are Anita, Athena, Fiona and Iona. I just don't get them !! I also don't like 'mum names' like Karen, Kathleen, Colleen but just my opinion. I prefer names that will suit a person all through life!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/03/2019 11:05

Orla. Tara. Evelyn. Alexis. Lucas.

OwlDoll · 13/03/2019 11:29

Callum and Cameron aren't the same name. Both come from Gaelic but Callum means dove and Cameron means crooked nose.

AdelaideK · 13/03/2019 11:39

Elizabeth and Grace sound really harsh to me.

I also dislike Oliver, Reuben and Betsy for no good reason.

Ghostwriter90 · 13/03/2019 12:08

Reuben is terrible.

Victoria, Elizabeth, Eliza just sound stuffy

Desperately searching for my son's name in this threadGrin
Not here so far

pineapplebryanbrown · 13/03/2019 12:13

I loathe the name Margaret and anything that sounds even remotely like it ie Megan.

planespotting · 13/03/2019 12:17

I don’t like Millie, Molly or Maisie, especially when they’re not a shortening of anything. I just find them very ‘wet’ sounding.
What does "wet" mean here please? English second language

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 13/03/2019 12:22

"Eg Genevieve nn Ivy, just call your child Ivy ffs"

Ugh this. See it all the time on here!

I don't get the current trend for old lady names.

Ghostwriter90 · 13/03/2019 12:33

'wet names' means drippy, wishy washy, unremarkable and forgettable, also perceived as weak

I find Amelia wet, Isla too, faye and fluer also wet.
Hope that helps!

I can't stand the name Hannah. Hate boys names like Kai, Caleb, Kian.

planespotting · 13/03/2019 12:53

Thanks OP!
Oh I think my son has a washy name then 😩😩😩

fantasmasgoria1 · 13/03/2019 13:07

Old fashioned names such as Elsie, Edith etc. Charlotte, poppy, neveah, molly, evie, imogen, isobel, Gemma, Lisa, kimberley, Amy, stacy, Paula, jayden, kayden, malcolm, Colin, Harold etc.

Sophiathefortyfirst · 13/03/2019 13:07

Otto and Otis. Awful names used by wannabe middle class parents

Ghostwriter90 · 13/03/2019 13:07

Remember taste is up to the individual. Also perception is different for everyone. There are names I Iove which others will hate

I don't like surnames as first names,
nicknames as first names,
I don't like girls called boy's names ( the reverse doesn't happen no -one calls boys Rachel), it's like girls are rubbish so I'll give her a boys name, or girls names ending in "son"
don't like unique spellings I don't mean if you are Irish using Gaelic spelling or using Spanish version if you are Spanish but spelling David as Daveed or Davyd, nor Chelsea as Chelsee or ShellC
not keen on names like River, Bear, Cloud, Oak Apple, Blue, Princess, Junior etc

squirrelnutkins1 · 13/03/2019 13:08

I can't bare the obsession with

Ava
Evie
Ada's

Etc... esp Ava, I don't know why, as one that I know is lovely, but I just can't bare it!

Still waiting to be lucky enough to be a mum but my girls name hasn't been mentioned so far 👍🏻
Boys name has tho 😳

😂

squirrelnutkins1 · 13/03/2019 13:09

When I say obsession I mean locally, seems to be hundreds of them!

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 13/03/2019 13:09

Old fashioned names such as Elsie, Edith etc. Charlotte, poppy, neveah,

For all the criticisms that might be levelled at Nevaeh I never thought 'old fashioned' would be one!
