Dear all,

I wonder if you could help me decide a name for dd2.

Our first dd is Isabella (as you can tell I don’t care about popularity of names!)

I would like another classic name to match.

I have always had a soft spot for Camilla. I feel that it’s so elegant...but my husband feels that it’s a bit “posh old lady”.

My husband on the other hand prefers general classics such as Anna or Sarah. I completely vetoed Sarah because it’s been incredibly overdone.

But Anna I feel is so plain and dull.

Who’s in the right?

Camilla or Anna?

Many thanks

Also please no advice about picking Camille instead-as I can’t help but picture a camel!

And I also don’t mind both girls names ending with the letter “a”!

I much prefer Camilla though I’ll admit my first thought when hearing it is the duchess of Cornwall!
I really don’t like Anna as I agree it’s so dull!

merrybloomizoothief · 22/02/2019 11:03

juliet?
Alice?
Charlotte?

i prefer Anna to camilla

SleepingStandingUp · 22/02/2019 11:03

Neither.

Sorry.

I agree it's old lady and the other is boring.

Is there really no other options?

If you like Anna as a nn what about Anabelle or Arianna etc?

DrCatherine · 22/02/2019 11:08

Thanks for such speedy responses.

I don’t feel that Arianna has that classic feel.
And in my part of town there’s just so many Annabelle’s around, that I feel like it might date..

Also is the Duchess of Cornwall really an issue?

I like Camilla. Nick name Cammie. Or....

Cassandra (Cassie)
Louisa
Eloise
Violet

Sexnotgender · 22/02/2019 11:12

I prefer Anna although don’t dislike camilla.

What about Eleanor?

kimlo · 22/02/2019 11:12

Camilla is lovely.

Elizabeth
Philippa
Charlotte

bluebell2017 · 22/02/2019 11:14

I quite like Camilla, but it does make me think of the Duchess of Cornwall.

Anna is nice, it's pretty and classic in feel but maybe a bit dull. Is Hannah slightly better?

Emma, Elizabeth, Mary, Lucy, Julia, Gabriella, Emily any good?

Sexnotgender · 22/02/2019 11:15

Elspeth
Penelope

DrCatherine · 22/02/2019 11:19

Thanks everyone. Most of the names mentioned are names of members of our families ( we do seem to all have classic names!), so can’t use them.

As for Hannah...I also feel like it’s a bit dull, but perhaps because it sounds like Anna! I think I prefer Anna to Hannah though.

Annie?
Connie?

Shadow1234 · 22/02/2019 11:25

Tbh, out of all the names you listed, I prefer Sarah!

You say Sarah is overdone - I dont know if that is true for certain regions, but I haven't met a Sarah IRL since I was at school, 30 years ago. Perhaps others will come along and confirm your thoughts on this, in which case, I stand corrected.

BlueChampagne · 22/02/2019 11:28

Clara
Olivia
Francesca
Amelia

Luckingfovely · 22/02/2019 11:29

Lydia?

Whoops75 · 22/02/2019 11:34

Prefer Anna. Also like

Lydia
Helena nn Lena
Faye
Katelyn

DrCatherine · 22/02/2019 11:38

Sarah in London is extremely overdone. I think perhaps because it’s such a universal name that fits all ethnicities (which I do -actually like about it...)And London is very culturally diverse- hence it’s overuse.

I like both Camilla and Anna. I don't find Anna dull at all, and nor do I primarily think of the Duchess for Camilla. I know a couple of younger Camillas, one a teenager and the other primary school aged. I think Camilla fits better alongside Isabella. It's a lovely name.

How about Camellia like the beautiful plant?

pearldeodorant · 22/02/2019 12:00

What about Emilia
Octavia
Louisa
Sophia
Clara
Eloise
Lucia
Nina
Eliza
Georgia
Lucy

I love Isabella but sorry, Camilla reminds he off the duchess! Anna is pretty but a little plain

DrCatherine · 22/02/2019 12:09

Thank you for all the suggestions. At the moment nothing has really stuck out to me, and a lot are names within the family including cousins/nieces etc.

Another name my husband likes is Lana (probably due to its similarity to Anna!) but I prefer Lara to Lana. But still, I don’t feel that either have that classic feel.. and they’re a bit too exotic?

sazzle27 · 22/02/2019 12:15

Working along the Anna path..

Annaline?

Other ideas..
Henrietta
Florence

merrybloomizoothief · 22/02/2019 12:18

Laura then?
really pretty

DrCatherine · 22/02/2019 12:20

Laura feels quite dated to me unfortunately. Perhaps because I went to school with a couple of Laura’s. And I don’t get that classy feeling from either Laura or Lauren...
