Cool Scottish boys name

I heard a name when I was pregnant but didn't use it. My friend has similar taste in names and is pregnant now and I'm trying to remember this name to suggest!

It's not Dexter. It's not Alaisdair or Hamish. It's not Ruaridh. But it's along those lines I think. Can anyone think of any of those types of names and see can I ring a bell?!

Sandy, short for Alexander?

MrsVietor · 24/10/2018 21:56

Laughing at Paisley being suggested as a cool Scottish name 😂

3out · 25/10/2018 10:07

😂😂 haha!

Shadow1234 · 25/10/2018 15:57

Apologies for the 'Paisley' error (glad it made you laugh though 😁)
you can tell I'm not Scottish - and was just having a 'blonde' moment!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 25/10/2018 15:58

god almighty I need closure on this thread

3out · 25/10/2018 16:26

@Shadow1234, the word itself sounds pretty, especially when you think of paisley print, but it doesn’t sound quite as romantic when said by my (very broad) friend from Paisley.
But, fifty years ago no one would ever have named their kid Brooklyn!

MrsVietor · 25/10/2018 17:07

I'm still not convinced anyone should name their kid Brooklyn but I see what you mean!

3out · 25/10/2018 17:17

I’m not really into placenames for people’s names either, but I understand the sentiment.

Shadow1234 · 25/10/2018 18:18

3out - thanks for the explanation 😄

desperateforsleep2 · 25/10/2018 18:29

Sorry folks. Nothing. Nada. Blank memory. Some beautiful names but none of them is the one. I'm flummoxed and sorry to have wrecked all your heads as much as my own! If I have a lightbulb moment, I will update immediately.

Geordie isn't Scottish so it's not likely to crop up here. It's English and means 'Farmer' as well as meaning someone from Newcastle.

Ruari is generally an Irish spelling, while Rory would be the English and Ruariadh the Scottish.

My DS's middle name is Fraser as it was a family surname. Duncan is also a good Scottish name.

mistermagpie · 28/10/2018 15:22

Magnus isn't Scottish but my son is called it and everyone says it is a really cool name for a little boy!

I'm loving the love for Kester on this thread. It's not Scottish either but we very nearly called DS2 that and bottled it because everyone thought it was weird. DS2 has one of the lovely Scottish names on this thread.

I'm dying to know though, in my fantasy life where I have a 3rd boy I can never think of a good name for him!

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 28/10/2018 15:35

Magnus is, sort of, a Scottish name. It's originally Roman and Scandinavian, but there's a lot of Scandi influence in Shetland and Orkney where it's a common name among generations of Scots.

blackpoolrocks · 28/10/2018 18:07

Carrick?

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/10/2018 22:02

Right, I'm back again - this thread is haunting me!

Nicol?
Niven?
Cairn
Muir
Lorne

Sure I'm now repeating myself never mind everyone else :o
