‘Wet’ names?!

I have seen multiple threads today where people have called names ‘wet’-both boys and girls names. What is a ‘wet’ name?! I’m a bit puzzled by this concept.

Not strong sounding I suppose, a bit lifeless. But it’s so subjective. To me Emily and Lucy always sound a bit lacking in direction, but to other people they are perfect names.

Saffkat · 18/08/2018 21:40

Timothy

elQuintoConyo · 18/08/2018 21:40

Clive
Mary
Ann/e
Oliver
Xander
Casey (male or female)
Isabelle/Anabelle/Bella

...but what is wet to one is solid to another, rather like farts Grin

Percy

There isn’t a definitive answer to this, whatever name you choose people will have different opinions on. Just go for What you like!

WrongKindOfFace · 18/08/2018 21:45

Cyril or Cecil. Percy. Tim.

Lorraine. I’m sure there are some dynamic Lorraines out there, but I’ve yet to meet one.

Cbeebiesrehab · 18/08/2018 21:46

I’m still not sure what makes a name ‘wet’ not being facetious I genuinely don’t understand lol. Are they names that are perceived as boring or names that are seen as whiney sounding? I understand it is totally subjective just curious as to what names I myself would place in this category.

Percy haha! That's got to be in the top 3 of wet names
Timothy too... ugh I cannot stand that name it makes me shiver just thinking about it

MadisonAvenue · 18/08/2018 21:48

Freya

AppleKatie · 18/08/2018 21:48

Ive met some dynamic Lorraine’s.

Felicity isn’t wet in the slightest either!

Rupert,
St John,
Casper,
Martin

All wet.

Can’t think of any wet women at the moment but I’m sure there are some...

MargaretDribble · 18/08/2018 21:49

My friend Lorraine is not wet. DH's name has been mentioned above.🤔
It is probably influenced by people you have met or heard of (Tim, Nice But Dim in Harry Enfield sketches, or even further back Timothy Lumsden).
On that basis I second Lucy.

pouraglasshalffull · 18/08/2018 21:50

I generally associate the "wetness" of a name with boys names rather than girls. Not a strong name, something you'd imagine a "soft" boy to have e.g. always saying yes to mummy, being weirdly close to mummy, never standing up for himself, being a bit of a weirdo in general. But as someone said it is very subjective. Synonyms: wet wipe, wet lettuce

Hayles88 · 18/08/2018 21:50

Daisy, Poppy, Milly, Molly etc

Rupert, Timothy, Daniel, Jasper, Jack etc

So wet.

Citylivingwithdogs · 18/08/2018 21:51

Timothy has a wet sound to me and so does George although I know many people describe it as a strong male name.

pouraglasshalffull · 18/08/2018 21:51

I actually know a Timothy (never called him that, he is just Tim), and he is the opposite of a wet person, it's just the connotations or person you imagine when you hear a name

Nutkins24 · 18/08/2018 21:51

Funny to see Robin mentioned straight away. Dh and I were just discussing it as we had decided it was too wet but we like Robbie. Peter, Timothy and Anthony would be mine. I don’t know what makes them ‘wet’.

Alibaba87 · 18/08/2018 21:51

No back bone, weak, a drip. I guess posters have known people with these qualities in life and maybe associate the name with the personality, or seen it in films/tv etc.

dinosaurkisses · 18/08/2018 21:51

Robin
Oliver
Joshua

Sophie
Molly
Amelia

Totally subjective though- for me, very popular names just say "Meh." when I hear them, but someone will be along to disagree!

pouraglasshalffull · 18/08/2018 21:53

Has anyone seen GoT? Robin Arryn (Catelyn Stark's nephew) is the dictionary definition of wet.

ComeOnGordon · 18/08/2018 21:54

Clicked on this thread to see how quick someone would say Timothy. It’s my least favourite name - a wet and drippy man.

MarthasGinYard · 18/08/2018 21:56

Chloe
Sophie
Kerry

Tristan
Jessie
Kyle
