‘Wet’ names?!

I have seen multiple threads today where people have called names ‘wet’-both boys and girls names. What is a ‘wet’ name?! I’m a bit puzzled by this concept.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ah ok, get it. Can think of boys but not really girls...the GoT reference helped!lol

Omg. Lucy has been mentioned 3 times. My DD is Lucy. A less 'wet' child I have yet to meet. She is rather closer to 'spirited' Grin

MarthasGinYard · 18/08/2018 21:59

I don't think Lucy sounds 'wet' at all

huggybear · 18/08/2018 21:59

Timothy is the wettest name. I agree about Robin and would add Philip.

Sarahandduck18 · 18/08/2018 21:59

Toby

Susan

NigellasGuest · 18/08/2018 22:00

To me, the ultimate wet name is Toby. But it's subjective...
Also, Jonty. Bleeeeuuugh

whiskeysourpuss · 18/08/2018 22:02

@WhatAmISupposedToBeDoing my Lucy is also as far away from being wet as you could possibly get as is DD1 whose name has also been mentioned

itssquidstella · 18/08/2018 22:04

Walter (unless German)

thelmalouisewaitforme · 18/08/2018 22:06

Louis
Finn
Edmund

Ohyesiam · 18/08/2018 22:11

Ooh, Robin as a wet name? I associate it with actual robins, who are really feisty and territorial. What are other people associating it with to see it as wet?

FoofFighter · 18/08/2018 22:12

Jeremy
Timothy
Urquhart
Hector

FoofFighter · 18/08/2018 22:13

I interestingly also cannot think of wet girls names Confused

Nothisispatrick · 18/08/2018 22:13

Alice. I know people love it but I find it incredibly wet.

Ohyesiam · 18/08/2018 22:14

Sorry to mention Lucy. I too have a dd whose name is listed here, and I think she may one day be in charge of the world. Or at least the NHS.

I think as a child a knew a Lucy who was so repressed and over parented she came across as thwarted , so lacking in life force.

LeeMiller · 18/08/2018 22:15

Julian.
Percy, Toby, Timothy, Rupert, Reuben
They just sound a bit drippy. Percy reminds me of Lord Percy in Blackadder who was a very wet character.

For girls:
Cecily.
Lucinda, Felicity, Ottilie, Arabella. Names that are frilly but at the same time a bit wispy and nothingy (for my taste).

Skyejuly · 18/08/2018 22:15

Lucy
Milly/Molly
Janice
Tracy
Timothy
Roger
Arlo

BonnieLass5 · 18/08/2018 22:17

Whiney, boring, flimsy names.

BonnieLass5 · 18/08/2018 22:19

I’ll list some:
Alfie
Archie
Charlie
Samuel
Joshua
Lucy
Jessica
Daisy
Lily
Felicity
Violet
Ellie

MargaretDribble · 18/08/2018 22:20

Holly, Molly, Polly

weebarra · 18/08/2018 22:24

Guilty - I did describe Felicity as wet in another thread.
Everyone has an instinctive reaction to a name and it's just a name I would associate with someone without a lot of gumption or vim.
My DD's name was actually mentioned up thread, but her namesake was a Norse warrior goddess so I disagree!

mikado1 · 18/08/2018 22:25

This is a funny thread! I think of wet names as kind of drippy, even 'thin' to look at, like Alec,Cecil, Nigel. I don't think Edmund or Daniel are wet (mentioned above). Seems like names with the letter i are what I think of. Cecily for a girl ties in!

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 18/08/2018 22:26

One of my boys has been mentioned many times on here so I am probably unqualified to comment! I find the name Lily very wet and weak. Just the word unrelated to the name annoys me actually. I can't think of any other names that annoy me as much!

NoGoodDeed · 18/08/2018 22:31

Peter, Timothy, Percy

Sarah, Jane

CaseFace30 · 18/08/2018 22:33

My sons name has been mentioned on here. In my opinion it's not "wet" at all. It takes a strong man to carry a feminine name and vice versa.

I've also never heard of a wet name, I think it's more people associating those names with people they deem "wet".

BishopBrennansArse · 18/08/2018 22:39

Why is Martyn wet?
