We had decided on Sophie for a name and my OH has just told me it is an ex girlfriends name!!!! Wtf! He tried to justify it saying it was a daft under 16 relationship but I'm still raging!!

Sophie is the most popular name in the world. You can use it without it being an issue. Would be different if it was a super rare name.

Just for a second I thought you were going to call a kid Furious. I was going to suggest Furio as an alternative.

I wouldn’t rule out under-16 exes unless they were very serious or long-lasting, but if you think it's going to really bother you long term could you amend to Sophia/Sofia or choose another name from your list?

Furious is a terrible name for a child. Don’t use that.

It’s also a ridiculous reaction to your husband having had a tween romance!! Grow up. Lots of people are called Sophie.

My cousin had this issue with the name Claire. She didn’t use it and 15 years later feels a bit silly!

Are you raging because you can’t call your daughter after a teenage ex and he hadn’t told you, because he’s now saying he can’t call his daughter after a teenage ex or because he had a teenage ex? If it’s number 2, tell him not to be so ridiculous. If it’s 1 or 3, don’t be so ridiculous.

How dare SHE? Why do people always blame the OW? It's his fault. His life, his choices which led to this. At 14yrs old, he should have avoided relationships with girls called Sophie in case a girl he hadn't yet met wanted the name for a baby they hadn't yet conceived.

What exactly are you angry about? Sophie is an extremely popular name of course you were bound to come across a few it just so happens your DP went out with one as a teenager which is completely normal and he shouldn't be made to feel bad about things that happened way before you two met. but if it's that much of a deal breaker than pick another name there's plenty out there.

It was him that made the big issue about it then tried to back track! I just wish he didn't tell me! I'm hormonal and had my heart set on Sophie 😭

If it’s taken him until now to make the connection then he obviously isn’t harbouring any lasting love for the girl.
