We had decided on Sophie for a name and my OH has just told me it is an ex girlfriends name!!!! Wtf! He tried to justify it saying it was a daft under 16 relationship but I'm still raging!!

You can still have Sophie.

Relax

MissMoodyMoo · 10/07/2018 15:50

He had decided he doesn't like Sophie now 😭

OP save this thread and come back to it when baby Sophie/Eilidh/Sophurious is a year old. It'll be good for a giggle with a cuppa and a biscuit.

I do think that you should give serious thought to Sophurious though.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 10/07/2018 15:54

FGS, this is a complete non-issue. Are the pair of you literally 17?

On the other hand, I'm really warming to baby FURIOUS.

Bombardier25966 · 10/07/2018 16:01

He had decided he doesn't like Sophie now

To appease you?

Wolfiefan · 10/07/2018 16:02

Honestly you're sounding either hormonally batshit or about 12.
Pick a name you both like.
The End.

AgathaRaisonDetra · 10/07/2018 16:02

Farstandtha is a nice name to go with Furious.

helacells · 10/07/2018 18:39

Chill out my ex named his first born after me

Mousefunky · 10/07/2018 18:52

How far did it go at that age really? Were they together for years, lived together, engaged etc? Of course bloody not. They probably snogged a few times behind the bike sheds ffs.

If you love the name that much this really shouldn’t matter. He basically once knew someone called Sophie, that’s it.

Ilikecakes · 10/07/2018 19:03

Sophurious. I fucking love MN, having a proper chuckle at that one GrinGrin

badg3r · 10/07/2018 23:26

Furious is an amazing name and the story of how you came up with it is epic 🤣

... practically though, Eilidh is much better than Sophie. Or is Sophia different enough?

Picknickers · 10/07/2018 23:45

Sophurious is absolute genius 😂

Neverwrestlewithapig · 10/07/2018 23:57

Definitely Sophurious.

Sofury is too much like sofa-ry like she’s got the look of a couch about her...

AUsernameRequired · 11/07/2018 06:33

My firstborn shares the name of an ex.

It's a lovely name, that's why 😆

It's not my child's fault my ex was a user!

PennyGH · 11/07/2018 19:05

I think you’re all being a bit harsh to someone who is clearly hormonal and asking for a bit of support!

OP, are you still pregnant or is the baby actually here and named (or unnamed!) now?

PennyGH · 11/07/2018 19:07

Although I do like Sophurious. I can’t help but sing it in the style of Mis-Teeq/Scandalous.

Pinkprincess1978 · 11/07/2018 19:10

Under 16? That's not a serious ex. My husband wouldn't consider a name I loved as apparently he had a gf called when he was 12 🙄

Timeisslippingaway · 11/07/2018 19:13

I have the same name as my partners ex who he did with just before me and they were pretty serious. She also lives in the same town as me even although he didn't originally come from here, he did however live her with her first. Now he lives here with me. I got over that 😂

strawberrypenguin · 11/07/2018 19:19

It was a relationship he had when he was a under 16. Not a long term serious relationship. In the nicest way, you need to get a grip. There is no reason you can't use the name, you're making a drama out of nothing

PennyGH · 11/07/2018 19:31

It depends on the context though. If OP lives in a small town where everyone knows everyone, then I can see why she would feel weird about it. Even though I don’t think it’s an issue at all and if you love the name, you should use it. I didn’t use the name Rose for a sort-of similar reason (I wanted to use but OH refused as he had a teenage girlfriend called Rose) and now I massively regret it. Teenage years are fine but I can still see why OP would be feeling the way she does.

beela · 11/07/2018 19:39

@pinkprincess1978 same here! Vetoed for dc1 because he had an ex with that name.

I even tried again to get it on the shortlist for dc2 in case he had forgotten but apparently not.

FoxAndBear · 11/07/2018 19:56

The world doesn't need any more Sophie's, what a dull name.
He's done you a favour. Maybe pick something more interesting.

MrsBobDylan · 11/07/2018 23:52

I first heard DC2's name when I met a friend's then boyfriend when we were 16. I only met him the once and we never spoke let alone dated.

DH always tells people it's the name of one of my 'many ex-boyfriends' just for kicks. I always get embarrassed and inadvertently add credibility to his wind up!

Op, just use the name you like. There are lots of things to stress about while pregnant, baby's name shouldn't be added to the list.

SPOFS · 11/07/2018 23:57

It's quite clear that this 16 year old did this to spite you. I'd hunt her down and demand that she changes her name. Name and shame her.

DelphiniumBlue · 11/07/2018 23:59

Better check the names of all his other girlfriends.
