Picked an unusual-ish name and now regret it, should I change her name?

Hi, really struggling here, so don't be too harsh. Tried talking to my mum about it and got "you had 9 months to name her, then a further few weeks" Confused I know that. I did spend ages and ages going through names, but there wasn't any that I absolutely fell in love with, the name I ended up going with cane to me from watching a horror TV series, which I'd never admit! Blush it's not unusual, unusual, but you don't hear it much now. It's in the 300ths for names, so it is known... I haven't had 1 positive response "oh" is my most common response, followed by "it doesn't matter what she's called, she's beautiful" to try and cover up the fact they hate it. I just seem to be regretting it a lot, the more and more I look at her, the less I like it and the more I start to think I can't have you with that name, etc.

It would be changed to Olivia.

Keep Audrey, it's a beautiful name.

HairyToity · 04/07/2018 11:36

Audrey is a beautiful name. I thought it was going to be an awful name, but it isn't at all. I love the name Audrey. Far nicer than Olivia in my opinion.

lifeisabeachsometimes · 04/07/2018 11:39

Audrey is a gorgeous name but maybe some older people think is old fashioned.

Being completely straight with you, we all like Audrey but you have doubts and these will grow and grow. I honestly would change it. If you don’t like her name now you never will. At this age no one will be any the wiser, and certainly not your baby. I would change it, host a little tea party to honour the name change and be happy with her name.

I wish I had done this when I had the chance believe me

WowserBowser · 04/07/2018 11:39

Audrey has been my favourite girls name for a long time. Beautiful.

MitchDash · 04/07/2018 11:40

My son is called Jed and it didn't suit him as a baby and it didn't sit well on him, but now he is grown it suits him very well - and he loves having such an uncommon name.

HogarthlovesSmurfs · 04/07/2018 11:43

Audrey is a great name! Anyone who turns their nose up at the name of a child already born is very rude, imo.

Greenglassteacup · 04/07/2018 11:45

Stick with Audrey OP because there are a gazillion Olivia’s out there & Audrey is lovely

hoochymama1 · 04/07/2018 11:49

Thanks Beautiful name! Just a thought, sometimes when babies are christened it's traditional to give an extra name..could be the chance to add another name that she could use later on? But I love it, so elegant and classic.

LoveInTokyo · 04/07/2018 11:49

If you’d called her something ridiculous like Princess Honeyblossom I’d say change it, but Audrey is a fine name. You must have liked it when you picked it. You’re just having doubts because people haven’t reacted as you would like. But don’t worry what those people think. Your daughter will grow into her name and soon you won’t be able to imagine her being called anything else.

CanaBanana · 04/07/2018 11:51

Audrey is lovely imo. Reminds me of Audrey Hepburn, very elegant and classy. I'd be devastated if I was named Audrey and my mum changed it to Olivia. Perhaps add a middle name and she can use that if she doesn't like her first name?

fieryginger · 04/07/2018 11:53

Audrey is a great name.

SallySidebottom · 04/07/2018 11:54

I love Audrey! It was on our my list for all of my DC but DH never agreed. It really is a beautiful name.

Trampire · 04/07/2018 11:59

Wooooo don't change it. Audrey is great!

When I was having my babies I knew one Audrey. A few people initially commented it was an 'odd' name but within minutes seems to switch to "actually it's very classic and it's not so common etc"

The Audrey is now 14 and she's Aude at school. It really suits her, and everyone knows her.

One of my friends called her dd Queenie. It raised a few eyebrows but again, she's a teen now and she's just Queenie. You don't get many in a school!

ClangerTwanger · 04/07/2018 12:02

Another one here for the Audrey fan club. It’s a beautiful name. Very pretty and sweet. Don’t change it!!!

DragonsAndCakes · 04/07/2018 12:05

Haven’t read the whole thread, so someone may have said this, I think the problem is that it isn’t a very ‘baby’ name. However think of a toddler, child or adult with it as a name and it’s absolutely lovely.

QuantamBaby · 04/07/2018 12:06

Audrey is a lovely name. Olivia is also nice, but I think for something a bit different, ageless and classy I think Audrey edges it :)

Ariela · 04/07/2018 12:13

Audrey will be increasing in popularity as all the Audrey grandmas named after Hepburn die off.
You will be quite the trendsetter as you got in there early. I like it, far far easier than Olivia, as she'll be unlucky to share her name with any others in her class/year.

jobbymcginty · 04/07/2018 12:15

Audrey's lovely one of my friends is called Audrey I've heard worse names my dad doesn't like my sons name but it's not his concern

steppemum · 04/07/2018 12:17

another one coming on to say Audrey is lovely, and unusual.
Olivia is nice, I do like it, but it is really popular now.

I think Audrey may be quite grown up sounding for a little baby, so it takes a while to get use to it, but she will be an adult much longer than a child, and she will grow into in.
It is a lovely classic name, and when I think of it I immediately think of beautiful elegant Audrey Hepburn, so what a name to have!

Mousefunky · 04/07/2018 12:21

Agreed with pretty much every other poster to keep Audrey. It just reminds me of Audrey Hepburn, very elegant and graceful. It’s 1000x better than Olivia, they’re a dime a dozen. Keep it! It will grow on you.

Orlandointhewilderness · 04/07/2018 12:22

Oh I love Audrey! Don't change it, it is really nice!

eternalopt · 04/07/2018 12:28

Audrey is a lovely name and the fact that it's down in the 300ths for popularity makes it more appealing for me, not less. Olivia is nice too, but much more popular and so there's a strong chance she'll have to be known as "Olivia [first letter of surname]" at school.

My French pen pal when I was a kid was called Audrey. She was very beautiful and sophisticated. That what it makes me think of.

Viebienremplie · 04/07/2018 12:28

Unanimous (almost) approval of a name on MN is rarer than hens teeth - you can't change it now OPWink

PS I love it, Audrey is class and it also works well in many languages/accents

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 04/07/2018 12:32

Audrey?? That's a beautiful name! Classy, pretty, and unusual enough to stop her being yet another Olivia.

I don't know why people are saying oh to it, they're the weirdos, not lovely Audrey. Please don't change it Smile

DowntonCrabby · 04/07/2018 12:34

Audrey is a beautiful name Flowers
