Picked an unusual-ish name and now regret it, should I change her name?

Hi, really struggling here, so don't be too harsh. Tried talking to my mum about it and got "you had 9 months to name her, then a further few weeks" Confused I know that. I did spend ages and ages going through names, but there wasn't any that I absolutely fell in love with, the name I ended up going with cane to me from watching a horror TV series, which I'd never admit! Blush it's not unusual, unusual, but you don't hear it much now. It's in the 300ths for names, so it is known... I haven't had 1 positive response "oh" is my most common response, followed by "it doesn't matter what she's called, she's beautiful" to try and cover up the fact they hate it. I just seem to be regretting it a lot, the more and more I look at her, the less I like it and the more I start to think I can't have you with that name, etc.

It would be changed to Olivia.

Like Audrey Horne? I like it Smile

louella99 · 04/07/2018 01:44

I like it!

Benandhollysmum · 04/07/2018 01:47

It’s not the usual Olivia’s and Jessica’s, its very smart and proper

campion · 04/07/2018 01:48

Change it.Olivia is 100 times nicer than Audrey.
I worked with someone who called her daughter Audrey a few years ago. I mentioned this to an Audrey of rather older vintage thinking she'd be pleased/amused.
She said " why did she do that? I've never liked it!"

Still,it's your decision.

thegreatbeyond · 04/07/2018 01:53

Feed me, Seymour :)

littlemisscomper · 04/07/2018 02:08

Ree-Ree would be an adorable nickname in my opinion. Much prettier than Aud which it would otherwise automatically become. Olivia is nice but massively overused. How about Ottilie?

AndInShortIWasAfraid · 04/07/2018 02:11

I'm an Olivia. Love my name, it's easy to spell and worked well in childhood and now adulthood. But all these things are true of Audrey. I love Audrey but I know what I'm like when I don't feel 100% about something, so change if it bothers you but Audrey is a beautiful name.

WorldWideWanderer · 04/07/2018 02:15

Audrey is nice....but honestly, if she doesn't look like an Audrey and you don't think the name fits, do change it. She's only young and people will soon get used to the change.

I grew up with a name I didn't like. My parents expected me to be a boy and I wasn't, they called me something as an after-thought and spent my first 17 years telling me so. Hardly surprising I changed it myself, my birth certificate says one name, my Change of Name form says another.
Don't put your daughter through all that, just choose something nice and delight in her!

CatOwned · 04/07/2018 02:20

Audrey is lovely! I rather like the nickname Ray/Ray, if you want something shorter while she's small. Little Ray of sunshine...

Fivelittleduckies · 04/07/2018 02:26

Ah I LOVE Audrey, such a beautiful band (as is Olivia)

Honestly - disregard the judgement if others and do what feels right for YOU

At four months old she’s hardly having her whole identity changed, what a ridiculous premise from a pp Confused

Both names are lovely Flowers

Fivelittleduckies · 04/07/2018 02:27

Goodness- sorry for all the typos Blush

Londoner999 · 04/07/2018 02:39

How about adding Olivia as a middle name to her birth certificate and then play by ear over the next couple of years? She could then pick which of the two names she would prefer to be called when she's older. It's a win win.

FWIW, Audrey is a lovely name as other PP have said, it is mostly associated with Audrey Hepurn which is pretty positive.

Disfordarkchocolate · 04/07/2018 02:53

I think Audrey is lovely too. I knew a fabulous, strong and determined Audrey.

HerRoyalNotness · 04/07/2018 03:01

Keep Audrey. I met a little one recently and it had a modern feel to it. Better than fine a dozen Olivia

HerRoyalNotness · 04/07/2018 03:01

dime

MrsBertBibby · 04/07/2018 03:36

Audrey is lovely.

Candyflip · 04/07/2018 03:38

I love Audrey! Audrey Hepburn, Audre Lorde, strong role models!

MonsterKidz · 04/07/2018 03:41

I think Audrey is absolutely lovely. Love Aud or Rey or Ree-ree for a nickname.

Love it!!

And so rude of people to comment otherwise!

But, if you genuinely have changed your mind about it then change it.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 04/07/2018 03:45

Audrey is elegant and unusual but well known with a nice namesake in Audrey Hepburn

I was going to make the hepburn connection so when people go oh, just go yeah you know like audrey hepburn.

Its a lovely name.

TheMythicalChicken · 04/07/2018 03:49

Oh gosh, Audrey is lovely! And sorry, but Olivia is not a nice name. And it's very popular and very dated.

Please, please don't change it.

Kokeshi123 · 04/07/2018 03:52

I thought you were going to say she was called something like Morticia!

Audrey is a beautiful name. Olivia is perfectly alright but quite dull, frankly.

Okaassan · 04/07/2018 03:54

Audrey is such a beautiful name. My 8 month old has an old fashioned name and i just say her name is " " she is my little old Lady Smile . It really suits her and I think she will carry it well. We have met other babies of a similar age called violet, Ada, Mabel, Ivy etc so i think their names will not seem or feel old fashioned for long.

I understand the second guessing though, that is why i have given her plain name for her middle name, so that if she doesn't like her first then she can go by that.

I think it would be more unusual to hear of a baby called gemma or jodie or Linda or Beverly or Sandra.

If my daughter said she had a friend called Audrey my reaction would be " What a lovely name ".

thebewilderness · 04/07/2018 03:54

Olivia is a lovely name though it is perhaps more common than your daughter might like.

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 04/07/2018 04:12

Audrey's fine, I like it. Olivia, gah, not a fan. Why not call her Petra/Naomi/Saskia...... But did you look at a variation of Audrey.. If you really want to change it, do what you want, really, life is too short.

Audelia, Audene, Audessa, Audi, Audie, Audra, Audrea, Audree, Audreen, Audri, Audria, Audrie, Audrielle, Audrina, Audris, Audry, Audrye

SEE ALSO Aubrey, Audriana, Elfrida

katzensocken · 04/07/2018 04:18

Were you watching the MTV Scream series? I love it and I love Audrey as a name! You could nickname her Ree or Ree-ree, if you like. I think people responding to her name like that have been very rude, ignore them.
