Picked an unusual-ish name and now regret it, should I change her name?

Hi, really struggling here, so don't be too harsh. Tried talking to my mum about it and got "you had 9 months to name her, then a further few weeks" Confused I know that. I did spend ages and ages going through names, but there wasn't any that I absolutely fell in love with, the name I ended up going with cane to me from watching a horror TV series, which I'd never admit! Blush it's not unusual, unusual, but you don't hear it much now. It's in the 300ths for names, so it is known... I haven't had 1 positive response "oh" is my most common response, followed by "it doesn't matter what she's called, she's beautiful" to try and cover up the fact they hate it. I just seem to be regretting it a lot, the more and more I look at her, the less I like it and the more I start to think I can't have you with that name, etc.

It would be changed to Olivia.

It's cute and it's coming back. It will be second nature to everyone soon.
It's totally up to you, if you love it stick with it

I really like Audrey! It's feminine without being frilly. I can imagine a teenage Audrey would be quite cool. Maybe it's a harder name to picture on a baby and that's why people are ambivalent in their reactions?

My son's name is really unusual and I don't always get positive reactions. But it's a real name with a long history, no weird connotations, simple spelling and easy to pronounce - so, as long as it's not going to cause him practical difficulties or encourage bullying, why do other people's opinions matter? Everyone likes different things.

People are funny about baby names.

There’s an Audrey in my baby sign class! It’s such a cute name and pretty cool for a teen I’d say!

Grandmaswagsbag · 04/07/2018 08:21

Audrey is lovely. Olivia is the most used girls name I think, do you really want to give her something so common?

Orchardgreen · 04/07/2018 08:24

Audrey is lovely, I would use Roo as a nickname.

NataliaOsipova · 04/07/2018 08:28

I like Audrey too - it's unusual but not odd. As others have said, if you don't want to admit to the TV show, just say that you've always admired Audrey Hepburn's style, or something like that.

NotSureThisIsWhatIWant · 04/07/2018 08:28

You can get Olivias by the cartload, it is the most popular girls name at the moment. I would keep Audrey.

SavageBeauty73 · 04/07/2018 08:31

I was expecting an awful name. Audrey is lovely. My 16 year old has a print of Audrey Hepburn on her wall!

Please don't change it to Olivia the most boring name. Give her a nickname instead.

PersisFord · 04/07/2018 08:34

DON’T CHANGE THAT GORGEOUS NAME!!

I know a little Audrey, she must be 3 or so. She’s a little firecracker. It’s a lovely name, classic but fresh. Don’t change don’t change don’t change!!!

pinkdressinggown · 04/07/2018 08:40

Love Audrey! Great name :)

Fishywishyhead · 04/07/2018 08:41

It’s a perfectly normal and beautiful name. Don’t change it to Olivia which every other child is called.

MunsteadWood · 04/07/2018 08:42

Audrey is a lovely name! Doesn't need a shortening or nickname IMO. I know a little Audrey (around 18mo) and it suits her perfectly. I bet it does your DD too.

mintich · 04/07/2018 08:43

Audrey is lovely! My friend has just had a baby names Audrey. Don't change it

kaytee87 · 04/07/2018 09:02

I thought it was going to be something awful.

I think Audrey is quite sweet actually.

marshyem · 04/07/2018 09:02

I have an Audrey! She is 8 months old and we have had nothing but positive responses to her name. It does take time for them to grow into names though I think. Now she has her personality starting to show it just seems right she is called Audrey. We mainly use her full name but do call her Aud or Audie for a nickname.

BertieBotts · 04/07/2018 09:07

Audrey is lovely and people will find that it grows on them as she gets older and it grows with her. Olivia is massively overused at the moment, is also nice, but will date.

People probably react a bit strangely to it because it's still in the category of "Old-lady" names. That means you're likely to be ahead of the trend Wink but also that the association people have with the name will change as your DD gets older.

barleyreed · 04/07/2018 09:08

Another vote to say I like it! Also the only Audrey I could think of was Audrey Hepburn which must be a good thing! But you need to be happy with your child's name so do whatever makes you happiest. If your DH doesn't mind and DD frankly won't have a clue then just please yourself :)

Cheto · 04/07/2018 09:14

Very classy.... I'd keep the name as Audrey Smile

Icecreamandpineapple · 04/07/2018 09:19

OP, try and imagine a few years from now when your little girl is at school.

If you change her name then she'll just blend in to the crowd of the very many Olivia's she'll be at school with.

Let your child stand out with her beautiful name of Audrey!
One more thing, how would you feel if you do go for Olivia then you learn one day in the future that someone you know (could even be a family member or friend) has a daughter and decides to call her Audrey?
You might be 'kicking yourself' then!

Have us posters managed to convince you not to swap names yet OP?

TheGrumpySquirrel · 04/07/2018 09:30

Olivia is so common now (ubiquitous). Audrey is much nicer and classic.

ashleaka · 04/07/2018 09:46

Audrey is beautiful and not uncommon - much more interesting than Olivia (although that is a lovely name, just very popular for many years). I know two and they both really suit it!

I would stick with it - don't be shaken! :)

GorgonLondon · 04/07/2018 09:54

Audrey is really lovely. Olivia is boring. Don't change it!

MrsXx4 · 04/07/2018 09:55

Audrey is one of my all time fave names!! (because of Little Shop of Horrors)

Please don't change it!

I am currently pregnant and haven't put this on my list but you've just reminded me and I'm adding it right now! it is such a beautiful name and I love Rey for short.

CloudCaptain · 04/07/2018 09:59

I thought you were going to say Buffy. Even then all your family are being extremely rude bot to just accept her name.
Audrey is lovely and making a comeback at the moment.
Have confidence and develop a sneery raised eyebrow for the haters.

CreativeMumma · 04/07/2018 10:04

i know little Audrey and i think its a beautiful name!
