Picked an unusual-ish name and now regret it, should I change her name?

Hi, really struggling here, so don't be too harsh. Tried talking to my mum about it and got "you had 9 months to name her, then a further few weeks" Confused I know that. I did spend ages and ages going through names, but there wasn't any that I absolutely fell in love with, the name I ended up going with cane to me from watching a horror TV series, which I'd never admit! Blush it's not unusual, unusual, but you don't hear it much now. It's in the 300ths for names, so it is known... I haven't had 1 positive response "oh" is my most common response, followed by "it doesn't matter what she's called, she's beautiful" to try and cover up the fact they hate it. I just seem to be regretting it a lot, the more and more I look at her, the less I like it and the more I start to think I can't have you with that name, etc.

It would be changed to Olivia.

Audrey is lovely I personally don't think you need to change it, children grow into their names, I think you'd regret it more if you change it now.

Knittedfairies · 04/07/2018 12:38

The Audrey I knew was a real kick-ass kinda gal, so I associate the name with that, and the elegance of Audrey Hepburn. Addy could be a nickname.

hungryhippie · 04/07/2018 12:38

Another vote for Audrey here. Much better than another Olivia.

MedicinalGin · 04/07/2018 12:44

From your original message, I was certain you must have named her Buffy.
Audrey is a wonderful name! It’s classic and beautiful.

glitterbiscuits · 04/07/2018 12:45

Audrey!! I wondered what on Earth it was going to be
It's a lovely name. Olivia is also good so you have nice taste.

Say Audrey really proudly when you say her name. It's great

Notonthestairs · 04/07/2018 13:10

One of my favourite people from my childhood was Auntie Dee Dee (Audrey) so I am biased but it's a lovely, graceful name. You chose well.

DeadButDelicious · 04/07/2018 13:10

Audrey is a lovely name!

spiderlight · 04/07/2018 13:54

Audrey is a beautiful name, and is the name of my favourite aunt who is just the most astonishing person. I much, much prefer it to Olivia, which is so ubiquitous now that it's boring.

Littlelambpeep · 04/07/2018 14:03

I was going to say change it until I heard Audrey.

What a beautiful beautiful name. I love it!!!!
Audrey Hepburn xx

toastytea · 04/07/2018 14:17

Audrey is a lovely name! Don't let yourself be swayed by rude, unwelcome comments! 😁

MizCracker · 04/07/2018 14:19

When your daughter starts preschool/school and you meet loads of Olivia’s (and I mean loads), you’ll realise you made the right decision when she was born.

wishingchair1 · 04/07/2018 14:52

Audrey is lovely and will be gorgeous as she grows up. Can you have addee as a nickname, sounds cute for a baby.

TheLastNigel · 04/07/2018 18:39

Live the name Audrey. Dree is a nice nickname too as pp said. Sod what other people think really...

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 04/07/2018 19:10

Another vote for Audrey is a beautiful beautiful name. If I had another DD it would be on my list. Congratulations on your baby and her lovely name :-)

Failingat40 · 04/07/2018 19:22

I personally really strongly dislike the name Audrey, to me it's a dated frumpy name.

Everyone talking about how beautiful Audrey Hepburn is has nothing to do with the name imo.

Olivia is a lovely name, yes it is current but what does that matter? Most kids just want to fit in and would not choose an unusual name for themselves.

You're obviously having doubts so listen to your gut and change it now before it's too late. Olivia Audrey is a safer bet.

Whipsmart · 04/07/2018 19:45

Audrey is a lovely name! Perhaps the reactions you're getting are because the name instantly makes everyone think of Audrey Hepburn, so it sounds a bit too sophisticated a name for a tiny baby! She'll grow into it Smile

Fibbertigibbet · 04/07/2018 20:37

Audrey walks that delicate line between quirky and classic and, more importantly, it is your daughter's name. Keep it.

StripLynchet · 04/07/2018 20:39

You were right first time! Stick with it.

littlecabbage · 04/07/2018 20:42

I really like the name Audrey. It has always been on our "girls' names" list. However, we have just completed our family.... of 4 boys, so I won't ever use it now!

Olivia is a nice name, but over-popular at the mo. I would def stick with Audrey.

itssquidstella · 04/07/2018 20:42

I like Audrey! It's unusual but familiar. I guarantee in five years it will have grown in popularity as names from that era are coming back in, and no one will bat an eyelid at it/people will decide they love it - you're just ahead of the curve.

Olivia is fine but dull. Stick with Audrey.

Specky12 · 04/07/2018 20:44

Love the name Audrey, for us it's a family name and one we considered.. instead we went for something more common and popular and I regret it now that DD is in a class with 3 other girls with the same name.

AshleighT85 · 05/07/2018 01:15

Can't believe the response!! It's definitely made me feel better about it. I think most of you are right and that it just seems like an odd 'baby' name, but she won't be a baby for very long!

I would add Olivia, but I like her middle name and I don't want that to change it as it's sentimental.

Thanks for all the replies.

I know a man & a little girl called Aubrey - not just a mans name.

Audrey is lovely.

pixie8 · 05/07/2018 05:24

Im sorry,Audrey reminds me of old ladies. But thats just my opinion. You called it her in the first place so you must have liked it? If its just because of everyone elses reactions/opinions then keep it,dont let other people sway you.

Cakemadeoffruit · 05/07/2018 05:58

Audrey was on my list, but we already have one in the family. Wish I stuck with it now as we choose a popular name (didn't realise it at the time) and it's takes some of the joy out of it when every fifth chilf has the same name. Our DD goes by a nickname most of the time now because of it.

I got Audrey from the TV show Haven, that character is a really strong, kind, confident, positive woman.
