Picked an unusual-ish name and now regret it, should I change her name?

Hi, really struggling here, so don't be too harsh. Tried talking to my mum about it and got "you had 9 months to name her, then a further few weeks" Confused I know that. I did spend ages and ages going through names, but there wasn't any that I absolutely fell in love with, the name I ended up going with cane to me from watching a horror TV series, which I'd never admit! Blush it's not unusual, unusual, but you don't hear it much now. It's in the 300ths for names, so it is known... I haven't had 1 positive response "oh" is my most common response, followed by "it doesn't matter what she's called, she's beautiful" to try and cover up the fact they hate it. I just seem to be regretting it a lot, the more and more I look at her, the less I like it and the more I start to think I can't have you with that name, etc.

It would be changed to Olivia.

Glad you've decided to keep with Audrey OP, it's a lovely name.

drearydeardre · 05/07/2018 06:28

sorry to some of the posters here but I am a 'proud to have the name' Audrey - it is not frumpy or dated or 'old lady' any more than the resurgence of Edith, Elsie, Emily, Florence or Agnes.
However OP I hope your daughter enjoys having a classy name and perhaps like me she will avoid any shortening to the awful 'Aud' -noone calls me that EVER. Smile

StillNoClue · 05/07/2018 07:02

Love Audrey. That was my granny's name :)

I don't think a lot of people like my ds's name. Do I care? Nope!. If you like the name stick with it.

If you have called her Gertrude I would have agreed with a change, but Audrey is easy to spell/pronounce and she won't be in a class at school with 5 others.

Duncan Jones aka Zowie Bowie just called himself by a different name as far as I know.
I have a lovely but rather grand first name that is only used for telling me off or being professionally distant. Since being a baby, my family have called me by another name.

Candyflip · 05/07/2018 07:30

His name was never Zowie Bowie, David Bowie was a stage name not his real name. So Duncan “Jones” is his actual name.

Jackfruitburger · 05/07/2018 07:33

Audrey Horne is a complete badass, and a brilliant namesake.

StrawberryCat · 05/07/2018 10:16

Audrey was on my list! It's such a beautiful name! 💕
I hope this has helped to reassure you but you need to do what's right for you or you'll always have regrets. Good luck!

LostwithSawyer · 05/07/2018 22:54

Too old lady for me.
Olivia is beautiful.

Strokethefurrywall · 05/07/2018 23:17

Fucking LOVE Audrey - glad you decided to stick with it, it's awesome!

Strokethefurrywall · 05/07/2018 23:18

Also I know an absolutely jaw-droppingly stunning Audrey in her mid-thirties so when I hear the name I think of her.

usernotfound0000 · 06/07/2018 12:30

I love Audrey, considering it for my baby. We had a similar reaction to DDs name, it was an 'old fashioned' name ranked about 200, it has become a bit more popular now so I don't get the same reaction anymore (and also care much less than I did!).

Igottastartthinkingbee · 06/07/2018 12:33

Just another one coming on to say I love the name Audrey! Haven’t heard it on any little girls round here so it’s unusual in that sense. But gorgeous!

CaitlinsYellowSocks · 06/07/2018 12:49

I love Audrey! I was thinking it was going to be something quite out there, but Audrey is perfect - elegant, classic and not overused. I think of Audrey Hepburn and Audrey Tautou.

There's a little girl called Audrey at my son's nursery and I remember thinking "what a sweet name" when he mentioned her.

Olivia is very pretty too but more popular, as other people have said.

I had a bit of name regret for a few months after naming my son - not because I didn't like the name but because it was very popular, and becoming more so. Choosing someone's name feels like such a big responsibility and it's easy to worry you've made the wrong decision, especially in the early days. Now I can't imagine him being called anything else.

SleepEatPoopRepeat · 07/07/2018 09:17

I love Audrey and the nn Rey is gorgeous ..too many Olivia’s around..will become the Sarah/Rachel of the 80s.

SleepEatPoopRepeat · 07/07/2018 09:19

Also I am regretting my DD name ...other half loved it and I agreed whilst high on drugs and oxytocin from labour...I have just accepted it. I do love her nn so just using that at all times Blush

FlaviaAlbia · 07/07/2018 09:26

Audrey is a beautiful name! I was imagining something really out there. It's a name she can really grow into and make her own.

Anm4 · 07/07/2018 09:33

Audrey is a beautiful name! If people are saying 'oh & least she's beautiful' they are the sort of people who aren't worth your time! You could of called her banana & it would of been your decision that people should respect!! My name is Angela, i was named after my Nan.. i grew up with Sophies, amys etc and always felt my name was really different BUT i love my name and i like the fact i don't meet many people who share my name especially my age! I've only ever met one lady similar age with it and she was as shocked as me that i had the same name for my age (26)! Own your choice and if people don't like it then oh well! X

Charlotte1x · 07/07/2018 10:01

Audrey is a BEAUTIFUL name. I have read all of the comments but looks like you’re planning on keeping it? Definitely prefer it to Olivia which has become far too common in my opinion. Maybe you could use Ree as a cute nickname until she’s a bit older, or something similar?

I have no idea why people would make comments when you tell them her name, are you saying it in a tone that makes it clear you are really unsure about it? I think it’s a lovely name.

DuggeeHugs · 07/07/2018 23:03

Audrey is a lovely name! I'd stick with it Smile

FASH84 · 10/07/2018 10:44

Audrey is lovely! Vintage, not too common but not wacky either

moronseverywhere · 10/07/2018 11:00

I love Audrey!
