For a girl that is, as I've occasionally heard these names used on boys.

Erin.

crisscrosscranky · 11/04/2018 19:11

🤨 my sister is called Jade. She's 31 and a senior manager who owns a 'vair naice' house.

I wonder how many people have judged her on her name on her journey to the top of her game! FWIW we are from a working class family but it hasn't affected her social mobility.

chezmk1988 · 11/04/2018 22:09

Erin is better

blinkineckmum · 11/04/2018 23:39

Jade is cool.
Erin is ugly.
IMO

ruleshelpcontrolthefun · 11/04/2018 23:44

Erin is lovely.

Jade is pretty in theory but I have a lot of negative associations with bitchy, gobby Jades.

Better than Martha though. I chuffing hate Marthas.

tigercub50 · 11/04/2018 23:47

I like Erin. Jade should be a beautiful name but somehow isn’t

Freyanna · 12/04/2018 00:05

Erin or Erinna

squoosh · 12/04/2018 00:27

They're both a bit naff.

Mrsknackered · 12/04/2018 00:45

Erin.

All Erin’s are brilliant Grin

Marcipex · 12/04/2018 01:28

Erin

Erin 100%, all Jades I've met have been very chavvy (sure there are some nice ones out there too)

elQuintoConyo · 12/04/2018 09:40

Erin

PetraRabbit · 12/04/2018 11:06

Jade is the prettier name by a mile. Originally a bit of a glamorous hippy name- Bianca Jagger used it. I think most people who prefer Erin prefer it because it's more middle class. It depends how much that matters to you. Erin is a plainer, more masculine name- but is fairly neutral to most people's taste.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 12/04/2018 11:19

Jade is dated but I think it's a lot nicer than Erin.

No, I just think Erin is “the prettier name by miles”. Jade has an ugly, clunky sound to me (sorry to any Jades out there)! Erin has a nicer, flowing sound to me. Neither one is my favourite name in the world, but Erin is so much nicer to me.

I like other ‘hippy’, precious stone names though; Ruby, Sapphire, Opal, Pearl, Coral are all lovely.

Sorry to ramble, I just wouldn’t like people to assume I only said Erin because it’s more middle class.

Probably true, as Jade actually sounds more feminine and prettier than Erin (which has a harsh sound imo).

Nope, I prefer it because I first heard the name on The Waltons when I was a wee girl and thought it was a beautiful name.

Jade is pretty too but it’s a precious stone so I always feel it’s a “cold” name. I think Ruby and Amber are pretty too but wouldn’t use them for the same reason.

MadisonAvenue · 12/04/2018 13:05

Copperbonnet that is exactly why I love Erin, because of The Waltons, and in fact it was a favourite when we had our children many years ago but we had boys so didn't get to use it.

I adore Erin

Freyanna · 12/04/2018 14:16

Copperbonnet Me too about The Waltons link! Erin was always my favourite character.

Copperbonnet · 12/04/2018 14:30

Who knew there were so many Waltons fans still out there! Grin

Frogletmamma · 12/04/2018 14:31

Look up jade in dictionary. Erin is smashing name though.
