For a girl that is, as I've occasionally heard these names used on boys.

Erin.
I have read too much Shakespeare to think that Jade is a good name.

HermioneGrace · 11/04/2018 13:19

I really like Erin but I would probably spell it Eryn :) best wishes!

Namechange128 · 11/04/2018 13:37

Erin by so much! It's a lovely name.

Jade sounds pretty too but to me comes with class baggage. I have a stereotypically 'working class' name and while it hasn't defined by life, I really tried to avoid this with my DC, it's a pain.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 11/04/2018 14:24

Well, you'd be spelling it wrong, Hermione. It's a well established name, nobody would guess it was spelt any differently.

MadisonAvenue · 11/04/2018 14:26

Erin. Definitely Erin.

pilates · 11/04/2018 16:39

Erin, dislike Jade

sleepyMe12 · 11/04/2018 16:45

Erin Wink

Littlemum2be86 · 11/04/2018 16:49

Definitely Erin! Lovely name x

vitaminC · 11/04/2018 16:52

Definitely Erin.

Jade sounds dated and I agree with a previous poster about it attaching a very clear class label, and all the baggage that would bring.

Erin is well-known enough not to confuse people, and yet unusual enough not to immediately be associated with a specific era or demographic.

AmysTiara · 11/04/2018 16:53

Erin for me. Jade was so popular in the 1990s it seems to have lost all appeal.

Not sure why someone said neither and suggested Ruby Confused it's hardly an uncommon name op won t have heard of.

FizzyGreenWater · 11/04/2018 17:24

Erin - Jade is a bit naff.

mehhh · 11/04/2018 18:04

I'm not a huge fan of either but I think jade is nicer than Erin

midsomermurderess · 11/04/2018 18:20

Erin, but only because Jade is even worse.

PotteringAlong · 11/04/2018 18:22

Erin

ButterfliesandMoths · 11/04/2018 18:23

Erin

MadMaryBoddington · 11/04/2018 18:24

I’ve always liked Jade. Lots of little Erins and Eryns around now; I think Jade would be more unusual. To me it conjures up a beautiful colour and precious stone.

everythingatonce · 11/04/2018 18:35

Erin. Definitely. Jade just makes me think of a nasty bully in my school in the 90s. Think it sounds a bit outdated though I appreciate that there seem to be lots of Erins around.

CPtart · 11/04/2018 18:42

Erin. Classier.

LoveInTokyo · 11/04/2018 18:57

Erin.

I actually like the name Jade but as someone else said it comes with a lot of class baggage. I hear the name Jade and I think about the chavvy girls at my school in the 90s who wore really short skirts, were always in trouble and used to bunk off to smoke behind the bike sheds.

PinkbicyclesinBerlin · 11/04/2018 19:00

Erin is the Irish for Ireland. I really wish I had used it. I absolutely love it and it would have been perfect for DD2.

DarkLikeVader · 11/04/2018 19:01

I love Erin. Have you ever looked Jade up in the dictionary? I’ve never been able to shake that knowledge and think about it every time I hear of someone called Jade.

“It was first used in Middle English to mean “a broken-down horse.” Later the word for a worthless horse was often applied to a woman (or, very rarely, to a man) considered worthless. Now a jade is more often a disreputable woman than a broken-down horse. Jaded, meaning “worn out,” is also derived from the equine jade.”

DappledThings · 11/04/2018 19:01

Erin.

But just for those who have never heard of Jade as a boy's name there is the England and Surrey cricketer Jade Dernbach.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 11/04/2018 19:04

Wow, Dark Grin. I'd have just thought of the green marble type stuff. And Jade Goody, which means a definite no.

mamaduckbone · 11/04/2018 19:09

Erin for sure. I know the most delightful 9-year-old Erin so it has positive connotations for me.
I would always want to say Jade Jaaayyyyd!

Padfoot100 · 11/04/2018 19:10

Erin!
