I've just had DD, she is a whole 5 days old and we thought we'd picked a good name, but I've just received an email from a family friend saying that it's a terrible name.
Please tell me straight, is Ophelia Elizabeth Cole a horrible name?

erm.
i dont think the first and last names will work well in teen life.

Oysterbabe · 27/03/2018 19:19

Oh feel leak ole?

It would have to be a fucking slow day for the school bullies to come up with that one. Grin

DonutCone · 27/03/2018 19:19

It's a little pretentious sounding for my tastes. But that's the choice you get to make. Tell you'll critique her choices when the time comes.

BertrandRussell · 27/03/2018 19:19

Horrid to be so blunt. But Ophelia does have sad connotations, and Ophelia Cole isn't particularly easy to say......

selavy · 27/03/2018 19:19

I’m with Latitia on this one, don’t get it either!

HeartySoup · 27/03/2018 19:19

They are no friend.

MeltingSnowflake · 27/03/2018 19:19

Beautiful name! And I'm fussy when it comes to names Wink

I'm another one who has tried it out loud and don't see the problem at all - Ophelia Balls, obvs wouldn't work - but I have no idea what the problem is with Ophelia Cole? It's lovely. Your friend is a dick.

BeaLola · 27/03/2018 19:20

Your child , your choice , your lovely squishy beautiful gorgeous new baby daughter CONGRATULATIONS. Your friends is rude rude rude and I hope she is either reading this thread and feeels ashamed or you email it to her. What's her name ? Let us all comment on how fab, lovely, interesting it isn't.

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 27/03/2018 19:20

Ophelia Elizabeth is also my DD’s name (she’s 11 months) so I think it’s pretty ace! Tell her to butt out!

BlackberryandNettle · 27/03/2018 19:20

It's a lovely name. Sounds fine out loud too.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/03/2018 19:20

Who the fuck would do that.

Yes In "my opinion" Ophelia is an awful name.
However opinions are one thing facts are another.

ScattyCharly · 27/03/2018 19:21

Is friend referring to this

www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Orphelia

ScattyCharly · 27/03/2018 19:21

But regardless, friend extraordinarily rude.

user1474652148 · 27/03/2018 19:21

I have just said it out loud and it is still beautiful.

This person has no place in your life. Do you think someone closer put her up to it? Perhaps that’s just my family dynamic!

IAmMatty · 27/03/2018 19:22

ScattyCharly that's a slang term that's already a decade old, I hardly think it's going to plague the life of a teenager in 2033 Confused

GrumpyWhenHungry · 27/03/2018 19:24

Congratulations on your newborn! You have chosen a beautiful name for her

Ignore the email. Bizarre, rude and spiteful.

Redpramlady · 27/03/2018 19:24

Defried them!

Congratulations op

Redpramlady · 27/03/2018 19:25

Defriend .... doh !

CantStandMeow · 27/03/2018 19:25

Is she getting at the fact it could sound like I'll feel yer 'ole /Or feel yer 'ole?

Furiosa · 27/03/2018 19:25

Ophelia Cole

Oh-fee-lee-ah-Cole....

II have a very dirty mind but 'm lost. Whats wrong with this? Confused

shesalady · 27/03/2018 19:25

Email family friend and tell them they are no longer family friend.

Lonesurvivor · 27/03/2018 19:26

I thought it was lovely too until I said it out loud and it hit me, "oh feel ya ole".
In this case I think your friend is been honest and brave.

FelicityMorange · 27/03/2018 19:26

I suppose it sounds a little like "I feel ya hole".

Latitia · 27/03/2018 19:26

@Lonesurvivor but... it has a c in it...

BennyTheBall · 27/03/2018 19:28

But it's Cole, not Hole. Even the most east end accent doesn't miss the hard c at the beginning of a word.

Doesn't sound remotely rude.
