Sebastian or Jasper?

Just that really.

I’m having trouble choosing between these two names after a lot of discussion to get here.
I really liked Gabriel, but was vetoed.

I adore Sebastian. I like it spelt as Sebastién. It’s on my list of names.

IndianaMoleWoman · 17/03/2018 23:07

Both wet lettuce names to me, sorry.

Pitapotamus · 17/03/2018 23:08

Sebastian. Seb or Sebby for short.

Buntysoven · 17/03/2018 23:09

I think Jasper has more oomph.

donajimena · 17/03/2018 23:11

Neither

Both are great names, but I'd choose Jasper as Sebastian is already very popular.

Flamingoringo · 17/03/2018 23:13

I’m not offended if people don’t like the name choices, but why say neither when I’ve asked which you prefer!? If you think both are shit don’t comment. Or suggest better?

Jasper sounds like an old sea dog to me.. I love Sebastian though!

RavenWings · 17/03/2018 23:17

I agree with the above that both are a bit wet imo. I'd prefer Sebastian though.

Farmerswife36 · 17/03/2018 23:17

Both really popular now and a bit poncy

Farmerswife36 · 17/03/2018 23:18

If I had to choose I'd choos Sebastian but would call the kid Seb . Sorry op but the other posters are right and both names sound wet

Harebellmeadow · 17/03/2018 23:19

I love both of them and would probably use Jasper first and then Sebastian as a middle name. Less likely to have other Jaspers in the same class at school, but you never know.

cavatron · 17/03/2018 23:20

They sound like cats names...!

Kimlek · 17/03/2018 23:21

I know several dogs called Jasper plus reminds me of Casper the friendly ghost. Not keen on Sebastian but think it could grow on me & I like Seb or Sebby. Absolutely adore the name Gabriel!!!

Harebellmeadow · 17/03/2018 23:22

And neither name sounds “wet” to me, rather my association is that both sound like boys who have libraries at home and who are disciplined and conscientious, which is not wet/soppy/weak/prissy to me.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 17/03/2018 23:28

Neither too, but I hate the name Sebastian a bit less, I know a couple of cool Sebs. Every Jasper I've ever known has been an unalloyed tosser.

Both are extremely "wet' names.

Flamingoringo · 17/03/2018 23:39

That’s ok, I don’t mind wet!
Choose your least hated.

Sebastian much better name than jasper, which is a bit jarring.

BevBrook · 17/03/2018 23:42

I like both. Sebastian swings it for me because of the character in the Sadlers Wells series, one of my first literary crushes.

Harebellmeadow · 17/03/2018 23:51

Jasper is indeed the sensitive “wet” vampire in the Twilight series , so if you live in the US or are under 30, this may be an association for many people.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 18/03/2018 00:11

I neither live in the US or am under 30. I have never read nor watched the Twighligjt films.

Jasper is still utterly wet.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 18/03/2018 00:12

It's also slang for a wasp.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 18/03/2018 00:17

Honestly OP, whenever I meet someone called Jasper I cringe so hard it makes my sphincter twitch.

It's a dreadful name.

Please don't call your sweet baby boy Jasper.
