Sebastian or Jasper?

Just that really.

I’m having trouble choosing between these two names after a lot of discussion to get here.
I really liked Gabriel, but was vetoed.

Both are great names - Sebastian is one of my favourite so I’m biased. So is Gabriel.

Neither are wet - quite absurd.

This is from women who seem to think Mason, Logan and Kai sound manly.

Flamingoringo · 18/03/2018 09:55

I was wondering what names wouldn't be considered 'wet', but if people mean sensitive and thoughtful by wet, then that's fine with me!

Sebastian seems the front runner so far, I appreciate it's more popular than Sebastian, although I only know one Sebastian.

Jasper is a gorgeous name! So is Sebastian Smile tough choice!

I think Jasper is less popular so I would go for that based on this reason alone.

Generally names that don’t sound middle class.

jess91 · 18/03/2018 11:12

Both names are great but I think I slightly prefer Sebastian because it has more variety of names to choose from. He could go by the more formal Sebastian or Seb, Bastian, Ian, etc.

I really don't think you can go wrong choosing out of these two names. I'm not sure how they, or any name, could be considered wet or even how you can assume what a child's personality would be from their name. You could always nickname him Butch to really drive the manly, strong quality into him, of course Hmm

Definitely not for me - to me, wet means mild, shy, anxious, wouldn't say boo to a goose.

I'm laughing at the person saying people who think it's wet think Logan etc are manly.

BuzzKillington · 18/03/2018 11:19

I love them both

mamaduckbone · 18/03/2018 11:23

I know a delightful little boy called Jasper who is quirky and clever but not at all wet.
That said, I slightly prefer Sebastian as it has more options - Seb is a cool shortened version.

TatianaLarina · 18/03/2018 11:35

I’m laughing at the person who missed the point of my post.

starzig · 18/03/2018 12:42

Love Jasper

ShotsFired · 18/03/2018 12:51

I know a baby Sebastian and its just wrong for a small child. Seb is the nickname of a middle aged man, not a newborn.

BoofayTheOompaLoompaSlayer · 18/03/2018 15:27

God, some of you are hideous! Some of us actually have these names for our children, and to read that people think they sound "wet" is horrible.

OP; I wanted to call my youngest Jasper but my husband vetoed it. We called him Sebastian in the end! I love both names, but I'm slightly biased towards Sebastian!!

We call him all sorts. Sebastian, Seb, Sebbie, Sebastibobs, Sebbisobs.... the list goes on! You can have a lot of fun with this name.

I think there's only one other Seb in his whole school, and it's quite a big school. Don't think we have any Jaspers in the school.

Neither names sound "wet"..... Whatever that's supposed to mean.

ifIwasinvisiblewaitIalreadyam · 18/03/2018 15:33

Sebastian 100%. I love love love choosing boys names. :) x

PinkAvocado · 18/03/2018 15:35

Jasper. I really dislike Sebby and not keen on the full Sebastian either (I think it is the ‘bast’ bit that sounds harsh).

Much prefer the vetoed Gabriel though!

PlausibleSuit · 18/03/2018 15:48

This is outing, but sod it.

My name is Sebastian. ☹

I'm 6'3 and definitely not wet.

I get called Seb sometimes - Sebbo when I was 12 - but I've never had Basty. Or any untoward teasing based on my name.

Both names are lovely, OP. Although I admit I might be biased!

sofato5miles · 18/03/2018 15:56

Sebastian. Love it.

Flamingoringo · 18/03/2018 16:12

Yes, well luckily he will grow into a man and be a man longer than a baby, so...

Nice to hear from you Plausibe, glad you like your name and you’re not ‘wet’ (!).

Thanks all, I think hearing the negative comments and not being put off is a good thing.

I know a one year old Jasper who is big and bouncey and full of fun - a lovely little boy. So a great name.

I also like Sebastian as think ‘Seb’ would do him well into his teenage years and Sebastian would be good for a serious corporate job but ‘fun seb’ would be up for afterwork drinks.

So I love them both, which doesn’t help you. I know 2 Jaspers so based on that I’d say Sebastian.

Neither name sounds wet to my ear 😊

TooManyHappyMeals · 18/03/2018 16:56

Love Sebastian! The only one I know is a lovely little boy. Knew a Jasper growing up who was quite nice too - fabulous mop of red hair on him.

My DS has a MN-hated name. I see that as a positive Wink

TinoTheArtisticMouse · 18/03/2018 18:55

I know someone with a 2y/o Jasper, who they've nicknamed Jazzy, which makes me smile 😊

TheImprobableGirl · 18/03/2018 18:58

I absolutely love Sebastian, I know two- one is usually a Seb (14/15) and a Frenchman (gorgeous) called Bastian

MadameLaplante · 18/03/2018 18:59

Both excellent.

MammieBear · 18/03/2018 19:00

Both lovely names, Sebastian has the stronger image...

MadameLaplante · 18/03/2018 19:02

@TatianaLarina that made me laugh. Very much. Kai as manly. I can't do emojis on ancient keyboard, but would be crying with laughter. The OP's name choices are lovely.

PuppyMonkey · 18/03/2018 19:02

Both were on my shortlist last time, but I had a girl.

Wet indeed? Confused how odd that people on here think that. MN is just plain weird.
