Any ideas for a baby girl born in this snow/cold?

Emma?

susurration · 02/03/2018 18:16

I think you would be extremely unreasonable if you call the baby anything but Beast.

5plusMeAndHim · 02/03/2018 19:19

Can't believe someone suggested Frostie

I think it's gr-r-r-r-eat!!

clarevoyent · 02/03/2018 20:43

Candida means white and is a lovely name.

(It is also the name of the yeast that causes thrush as my DD reminds me from time to time)

neveradullmoment99 · 02/03/2018 20:53

Bianca = white in Italian

SnowShow1 · 02/03/2018 21:03

Belle (snowbell)
Heidi and Silke make me think of snowy mountainous regions...

snowgirl1 · 02/03/2018 21:28

Nieve - Spanish for snow.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 02/03/2018 22:17

narnia :)

Biscuitsneeded · 02/03/2018 22:41

Was just about to suggest Lucy. It's tenuous but she was the little girl in Narnia...

Biscuitsneeded · 02/03/2018 22:49

The latin name for a Snowdrop is Galanthus Nivalis (milkflower of the snow). Nivalis is the bit that means 'of the snow'. Would Niva work? (pron Neeva)

Biscuitsneeded · 02/03/2018 22:57

Aurora (as in Aurora Borealis, Northern Lights)?

TheOriginalEmu · 03/03/2018 00:20

to be fair though, the ei- in eirlys, eira etc is pronounced differently by fluent welsh speakers from various regions. I'm a welsh speaker, my child is called Eiry. she goes to a welsh school. most of us (her family) pronounce it as Eye-ree or thereabouts, some of her teachers do too, others (including me) say it more like Ay-ree as do various other teachers. its a regional accent thing.

TheOriginalEmu · 03/03/2018 00:23

AND she was born in August. so, sue me. there are no laws you can't name a child a name from a different season!

ChampagneSocialist1 · 03/03/2018 09:07

I like Winter or Snow as a middle name to mark the occasion but doesn't sound mad so for example:
Jane Winter Smith
Rachel Snow Evans

PyjamaLlama · 03/03/2018 09:23

How about Lara? (Dr Zhivago)

I also think Emma would be lovely.

Glowerglass · 03/03/2018 10:36

Neva - frost in Spanish, I'm told

FeedtheTree · 03/03/2018 11:30

@PyjamaLlama - oh that's the best suggestion. Great name and very frosty film.

BitOfFun · 03/03/2018 12:41

Ooh yes, Lara is a beautiful name!

Wdigin2this · 03/03/2018 12:53

Eira is snow, or Eirwen which means Snowhite.

MikeUniformMike · 03/03/2018 12:56

TheOriginalEmu, it's not a regional accent thing. The 'Ay' sound doesn't occur in Welsh.
Who on earth would want their child to be called Airy however it was spelt?

MikeUniformMike · 03/03/2018 12:58

I know a RL Gwenhwyfar. Gaynor/Gaenor is more popular and is a form of Guinevere.

ProperLavs · 03/03/2018 17:52

mike are you MN residential welsh language expert whose knowledge surpasses all others?

DullAndOld · 03/03/2018 17:54

yes Mike is the resident Welsh language expert...(also known as a 'Welsh speaker')

ProperLavs · 03/03/2018 17:57

Ah Ok, I am properlavs I am fluent and native speaker of the english language. I am an expert in my language. I have spoken it all my life and I know better then all you other native english speakers out there. Come to me if you are not sure about how to pronounce things and I will put you right.

DullAndOld · 03/03/2018 18:01

Grin @ properlavs - that is different.

Honestly the average English person cannot even say ' Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch ' properly!
