I have been looking for names for a little while. I want something unusual thats not going to crop up everywhere and Rogue is the only name ive really fallen in love with! I would use it for either a boy or a girl. Middle name for a boy would be John after a family member, but im worried Rogue John sounds a bit like a dodgy curry! Middle names for a girl would either be Evangeline, joan or Elizabeth. Does anyone have any opinions/suggestions/alternatives? (No Rogans or logans please!)

I know a loki

OakIsBetterTho · 28/01/2018 20:15

OH I've just seen you'd use it for a boy or a girl. Scout for a girl? I don't particularly like it but it is an actual name.

trooper.
Then his brother could be strontium dog and his sister Durham red.

Further family members could be Judge Dredd and judge Anderson

Similar...
scoundrel, villain, reprobate, rascal, good-for-nothing, wretch

It's one thing to use a common name which has a negative historical meaning. It's another to use a word which is in common usage today with a negative meaning and is not widely considered a name at all.

AntiHop · 28/01/2018 20:16

joking aside, names with origins which aren’t very nice is one thing, but using a negative word which is still very much in use, is a little different.

This

MyYoniFromHull · 28/01/2018 20:16

It works for a terrier but not so much for a lurcher imho. Don't forget the wormer

glitterbiscuits · 28/01/2018 20:17

It’s not a name. It’s a word.

PrincessoftheSea · 28/01/2018 20:17

Did you mean Rouge?

Amilliondreams · 28/01/2018 20:17

Surely you can’t know what a rogue is and then use it for a name for your child.

Robyn578 · 28/01/2018 20:17

Im not getting all of these references in all honesty. Never heard of any of it.

OP

You are deranged if you think calling your child Rogue is a good idea.

You're more deranged if you think calling your child Rogue a good idea after you've seen all this piss taking from adults.

How do you think ikkle Roguey will fare in the playground??

Honestly babe- just don't do it.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 28/01/2018 20:19

And Rogue John doesn't sound like a dodgy curry, it's one syllable off being a Star Wars film

You may as well have Empire Strikes Mack or Return of the Eddie!

toffee1000 · 28/01/2018 20:19

Of course I know some names have negative meanings. My own name is a case in point. The thing is, people don’t look at my name and immediately make the negative association like they would with Rogue.
And actually I can’t think of that many names with negative meanings beyond my own, except for Mary which means “bitter” (Mary is not my name). And really, the negative meaning of my name and the negative meaning of Mary are not so bad as Rogue.

Jammycustard · 28/01/2018 20:19

Rose
Rowan
Roman

PrincessoftheSea · 28/01/2018 20:19

Not Loki. Plenty of other Norse names out there.

SuperBeagle · 28/01/2018 20:20

Rogue is the sort of name where if you attempted to name your child that, I can imagine the state stepping in and saying, "Nope!"

They've done it with far less batshit names than Rogue.

Coconutspongexo · 28/01/2018 20:21

Unique means one of its kind.. surely if it’s in a book it’s not unique

Wolfiefan · 28/01/2018 20:21

You're not getting any of these references at all? Maybe get someone else to choose your baby name then?! Confused

RyvitaBrevis · 28/01/2018 20:21

Rogue could make a cute nickname for a girl with an "Ro-" name, eg Roma or Rhona.

I'm not sure Vogue is much better than Rogue . . . everyone will be asking her to strike a pose.

Coconutspongexo · 28/01/2018 20:23

Main Entry: rogue
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: person who deceives, swindles
Synonyms: bad egg, bad news, black sheep, blackguard, charlatan, cheat, cheater, con artist, criminal, crook, defrauder, devil, fraud, heel, hooligan, lowlife, mischief, miscreant, monstrosity, ne'er-do-well, outlaw, problem, rapscallion, rascal, reprobate, scalawag, scamp, scoundrel, swindler, trickster, villain

I personally like Rapscallion

If you want to be really unique call your child ne’er-do-well

QueenNefertitty · 28/01/2018 20:23

Yeah what about Romy?
