Opinions/ middle names for Rogue

I have been looking for names for a little while. I want something unusual thats not going to crop up everywhere and Rogue is the only name ive really fallen in love with! I would use it for either a boy or a girl. Middle name for a boy would be John after a family member, but im worried Rogue John sounds a bit like a dodgy curry! Middle names for a girl would either be Evangeline, joan or Elizabeth. Does anyone have any opinions/suggestions/alternatives? (No Rogans or logans please!)

Like Rogue from x men??

Well.. it’s different. I wouldn’t personally, but if you are absolutely set on it I think it would be wise to go for something lovely and very very safe for his/her other name (from your list maybe avoid Evangeline) so he/she can be known as that when older if he/she doesn’t like Rogue/want to stand out etc. Or put Rogue in the middle?

toffee1000 · 28/01/2018 20:05

Do you actually know what Rogue means OP? The first definition in a dictionary is “dishonest person” (paraphrased). Do you really, really want to call your child that?

Robber has a nice ring to it. Or mugger. Or Killer, that sounds really cool Hmm

Shockers · 28/01/2018 20:07

Please don’t!

FrogPie · 28/01/2018 20:07

Similar kind of vibe - Roman/Romana?

BattleaxeGalactica · 28/01/2018 20:08

Elephant?

baublesnbubbles · 28/01/2018 20:08

Oh god, I never comment negatively on name treads ... but there s a first for everything ! Don't call your child Rogue, just no. That s unkind

Shockers · 28/01/2018 20:09

What about Scallywag, or Hoodlum, Twooter?

Robyn578 · 28/01/2018 20:09

Yes, i do know what it means. But there are plenty of other (very common!) Names that actually have horrible meanings. Yet so many people have used them, the meaning seems to be forgotten! Its an unusual choice, i know, but everyone is different! I personally think the names Euan and amelia are absolutely awful, but i would never tell someone theyre an idiot for liking the way it sounds!

Or Wrongun.

Ummmmgogo · 28/01/2018 20:10

I was so sure you were going to say you meant rouge. how about Roger on birth certificate on rogue as a nickname for a boy? or maybe something like roguetta or rogueisha for a girl?

Mrsknackered · 28/01/2018 20:10

Tyrant?

OakIsBetterTho · 28/01/2018 20:10

Oh dear. Please don't use Rogue OP, it'd be unfair on your baby
Roman is a good alternative

Wolfiefan · 28/01/2018 20:10

You may wish to be unusual. Change your own name. Don't saddle a kid with a non name youneeq name.

Scabbersley · 28/01/2018 20:11

Euan and Amelia don't mean 'dishonest person'

I think I'd feel quite sad if my mum had called me Rogue

mimibunz · 28/01/2018 20:11

Rogue Steel, Rogue Dante, Rogue River....Mills and Boon names!

QueenNefertitty · 28/01/2018 20:12

I'm all for an unusual name (DS has one)- but I think where the name is in current usage as a word with negative connotations, you're setting your kid up for a difficult time.

You know with a name like rogue, teachers will have preconceptions, Police will think he's taking the piss if he ever needs their assistance (or god forbid is in trouble), employers might shy away....

Be sensible.

Shockers · 28/01/2018 20:12

Joking aside, names with origins which aren’t very nice is one thing, but using a negative word which is still very much in use, is a little different.

Elledouble · 28/01/2018 20:12

I guess it’s no worse than Maverick, which was as popular as my child’s name in the year he was born. Can you imagine a quiet, bookish child called Rogue though? Don’t give your child a name that will evoke a certain temperament!

Mulch · 28/01/2018 20:12

Theres unusual and then there's unusual.

TaggieRR · 28/01/2018 20:13

I don’t think one person has said they like it. I think that means you really should consider what your child will think of it in future.

QueenNefertitty · 28/01/2018 20:14

Loki is unusual - Norse God and a trickster. He went a bit evil towards the end in the myths, but most people won't understand the connotations - why not go for something like that?
