Last night we went to see my cousins gorgeous new twins and we're in shock. They have named them Felix and Fearne. Fern has been our name almost right from the start of this pregnancy but we didnt tell anyone in rl. My cousin and I are very close both geographically and emotionally so it really is off the table for us. I lightly told him he'd pinched our girl's name and he was really apologetic bless him. No one's fault but I'm gutted especially as the whole family have said what a beautiful name it is . Mn will be Angelica which we cannot use as a first name. Our dd is Nancy surname J. Please any suggestions of what we may like? We're both stumped

Oh no! You sound so lovely and reasonable though.

Do you like names with an f particularly?

Great minds think alike - what an incredible coincidence.

Angelica is a gorgeous middle name.

Suggestions:
Rosemary Angelica (Romy would be a nice NN)
Cecily Angelica
Lucy Angelica
Rosalie Angelica
Jocelyn Angelica
Evelyn Angelica
Katherine Angelica (Kate or Kitty would be nice NNs to go with Nancy)
Daphne Angelica
Harriet Angelica (Hattie as NN)
Stella Angelica
Sylvie Angelica
Zoe Angelica

A second vote for Fiona.

It was our name for our third (but baby was a boy).

ChocolateCakeandTeaPlease · 02/12/2017 07:10

We had something similar happen to us - chose our boys name when we first got together and ten years later (we hadn't managed to get pregnant yet) my husband's brother used it for his son. We were gutted and even though the little one is now 4 I still struggle a bit saying his name. In my eyes he doesn't suit it because it should have been MY son's name! Blush Still, we found another name we loved even more in the end when our own DC was born.

Loads of lovely suggestions above. Nancy and Violet is a lovely combo!

Is it really out of the question to use Fern - especially as your cousin's spelling is different? I can understand you might spend a lot of time together when they are tiny, but your child will increasingly have a separate sphere of existence so as time passes the name coincidence will matter less.

Pannacott · 02/12/2017 07:38

Maybe sound them out about using it anyway? It might be nice for the girls to share a similar name.

lljkk · 02/12/2017 07:38

Hazel, Martha, Sarah.

venellopevonschweetz · 02/12/2017 07:47

Same thing happened to my mum, my auntie (accidentally) pinched my name for one of my twin cousins!!

My mum chose something else right up to me being born but she just couldn't do it so I ended up with the original same name as my cousin but with what was supposed to be my middle name added with a hyphen.

All of my maternal family refer to me by my double barrel first name and its always been fine Smile

Isadora2007 · 02/12/2017 07:52

I personally wouldn’t have an F with an A anyway- especially for a girl-
“Sweet F A Smith”?
Maybe the universe has done you a favour in rethinking your baby girls name?
It might just not be meant for her.

tralaaa · 02/12/2017 07:52

This is the 1st name thread I’ve posted on how about Quinn Petal Annabella or Fraya or Francesca
