Benedict from Cynthia Harnett's "Load of Unicorn" or Cecile from the same author's "The Woolpack"
Edmund or Caspian from Narnia

GaucheCaviar · 15/09/2017 13:31

Bartholomew > Tolly

kittytom · 15/09/2017 18:17

Footle ah, yes that is much nicer. I did reflect afterwards that at 7 I didn't have the desperate housewives connotation! Linnet is lovely. I can't wait to re-read that book to my DAD self

kittytom · 15/09/2017 18:18

*DD not Dad. He wouldn't be interested!

kittytom · 15/09/2017 18:26

Ps I have just remembered Aurora and Socrates, the latter always makes me chuckle. I have loved re-reading that book to my daughter. I think I would like her parents!

MaroonPencil · 15/09/2017 20:44

Kitty! I have never met anyone else who read those books. I loved them.
You didn't happen to also read Matthews Secret Surprises and Where Matthew Lives did you - nobody ever seems to have read them either.

MaroonPencil · 15/09/2017 20:47

I'm trying to remember Aurora's friends' names - Britt-Karen, Knut, and I think there was another girl.

Lindy2 · 15/09/2017 21:01

Not really children's literature but I like some of the Hunger Games names, Katniss, Peeta, Gale, Hamish, Fenick and Effie.
I'd never be brave enough to use one but I think they are pretty cool names.

CheeseEMouse · 15/09/2017 21:02

Clover from What Katy did. Not brave enough to use it though

CheeseEMouse · 15/09/2017 21:03

JellyMouldJnr · 15/09/2017 21:07

@BertrandRussell from My Friend Flicka? I love the name Banner.

ShangriLaLaLa · 15/09/2017 21:16

Dido from Black Hearts in Battersea and Nightbirds on Nantucket. I devoured those books as a young girl and was devastated when DD was unimpressed with them.

kittytom · 15/09/2017 21:16

Maroon it was Nusse! (Just dug my copy out to confirm that). I have also never met anyone else who has read it! I re-read it recently and thought it was so ahead of its time. I loved Father's amused nonchalance at everyone's disbelief that he could possibly look after his own kids.

I haven't read the others you mentioned but thank you because I googled and they look perfect for my DS so am going to buy!

saffronwblue · 15/09/2017 21:57

Ilse from Emily of new Moon.

GrumbleBumble · 15/09/2017 22:00

I have a Matthew (named after Matthew from AoGG). Clara (Heidi), Megan and Beth (Little Women) were on my girls list and Danny (the Champion of the World) was on my boy list. I will have to track down Where Matthew lives for my Matthew.
