Isadora, Vivienne and...

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 07:46

DD1 is Isadora. We are expecting twins end of this year and we are 100% on girls names. If they are twin girls they will be called Vivienne and Josephine.

Isadora is Dora and we like Vivi and Posy as shortenings for our twin girl names.

We like having a "Sunday best" name as it were, I prefer shorter more cutesy nicknames as children but would like them to have a "proper" name as they get older so would like that same theme to continue in our boys names.

Problem is I don't like ANY boys names but have convinced myself it is a boy and a girl from the 12 week scan - we won't find out at the 20 week scan. Struggling because we want a solid, traditional name that isn't too "out there" but not one that's extremely popular.

Any suggestions??

Our rather mixed bag of "like but not love"

Albert - Bertie
Douglas - Dougie
George - Georgie
Ambrose - Bram

Thank you :)

Benjamin-Benji
Tobias-Toby
Samson-Sonny (love this one)
Ralph-Ralphie
Augustus-Gus
Rafferty-Rafe/Raffi

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 09:50

From your list I like Rafferty and actually love Samson too but not keen on Sonny... DH is going to be my main problem I think as he's said no to both :(

Like Toby too but I already know a couple. Not sure Isadora, Vivienne and Ralph "goes" but I do like it. Not keen on Benjamin cos hate Ben even though Benji is cute. And not keen on Augustus.

Just thought of Hugo too - love that but I know so many!

Sebastian (Sebi)
Nathaniel (Nate)
Theodore (Teddy or Theo)

friedegs · 15/07/2017 09:54

I love your girls names - all three. Beautiful!

Laurence - Larry
Vincent - Vince/ Vinnie
Harrison - Harry
Dominic - Dom
Casper - ?

SprinkleOfInsanity · 15/07/2017 09:54

Montgomery - Monty? Works well with the 'Sunday best' names and also shortened versions. Dora, Vivi & Monty.

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 10:00

Boglin fab suggestions love the idea of longer names like our girls names. I'm worried Theodore is too similar to Isadora and also know so many who have recently had children with variations of Theo, Ted, Teddy which puts me off. Not keen on Seb. Nathaniel has gone on our list of potentials :)

friedegs I LOVE Laurence nn Laurie. It's my sister's married name :( I don't think I can use it! Vincent going on our list! Thinking it might be cute as twin names - Vivienne and Vincent? Not keen on Harrison or Dominic. Casper has made me think of Cassius - is it too "out there"?

Sprinkle oh Monty is very cute. This is why I love mumsnet! Another potential thank you!

I was also going to suggest Montgomery (Monty) and Lawrence (Laurie) but I've been beaten to it!

Robert (Bobby, Bert)
Alexander (Xander, Sandy)
Joseph (Joe, Joey)

Boglin · 15/07/2017 10:08

Jonathan (Jonty)
Hamilton (Milton)
Gabriel (Gabe)
Frederick (Freddie)

I think I'm done now!

AlongcameMolly · 15/07/2017 10:10

Franklin - Frank/Frankie
Maximillian- Max
Valentine - Val

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 10:13

Boglin thank you! Love both Gabriel and Hamilton - might he get Ham though? Hammy?? 🤔 Alexander I adore but a close friend just had an Alexander, he gets Alex and not keen on that shortening although love Zander. A close friend of DH has twin boys Frankie and Freddie - love it but couldn't steal. Robert, Joseph and Jonathan all names of boys from my class at primary school - solid and traditional but too much of my generation from my point of view.

Just came back on to say Montgomery-Monty but someone has beaten me to it!lol x

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 10:16

AlongcameMolly Frankie is out for above reason although Franklin is an amazing name. Maximilian I love but someone I know has just had a Max. Wish people would stop taking my favourites!! Not keen on Valentine.

DS2 is Bertie (Albert) - we get lots of compliments on his name!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/07/2017 10:29

Love your daughters names OP.
Peregrine (Perry).
Llewelyn (Lew).
Matthias (Mat/Matty).

YokoReturns · 15/07/2017 10:31

We also had:

Stanley
Casper
Oscar
Wilbur
Nathaniel

Although Bertie was top of our list. DS1 is Freddie.

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 10:31

Thinking I love Caspian, is it too Narnia though?? Cassius, Casper, Caspian love the "sound" of them all but just not 100%. I tend to go for names that I like the sound of - that roll off the tongue nicely if that makes sense 😅 which is why I liked Ambrose but DH is so not keen. Also liked Florian but DH immediately vetoed. Brother in law has a Leo - Percival, Lucien, Julius not keen on I'm afraid.

Kristian - Kris
Felix - ?
Guy - ?
Rudolph - Rudy

Love the girls' names!

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 10:35

Sugarpie love Peregrine/Perry that's going on my list. Although slightly reminds me of the book Wise Children which also includes a Dora! My brain makes some wild links that put me off names it's an absolute curse!

Yoko I do love Albert, it's also my Grandpa's name which gives it extra meaning. However I know two Berties and one Albie and that has put me off slightly! From your list I also like Stanley, Casper and Oscar - in fact DH loves Oscar but I'm not sure if it's too popular now?

mammabear4 · 15/07/2017 10:37

Thanks MilkTray :) I like Christian nicknamed Kit but DH has vetoed as he is a solid atheist - major eye roll.
