The most children with the same name in the same class

Everyone seems to worry about popularity, so what name have you known the most of in the same class?

Growing up I had six (!) Daniels in my class, so over a third of the boys. There were two in the adjacent class too.

I've also known two separate classes with three Isabelles each who were all Izzy.
Three Jacks.
Three Freyas too which is odd as it's not that popular.

In my year at school everyone seemed to be Karen or Keren or Karyn or possibly Carolyn. We also had lots of girls called Helen, Jane, Catherine or Sarah. Not to mention all the Tracys and Sharons!

EllenJanethickerknickers · 26/06/2017 23:07

The boys were mostly David, Andrew or Steve.

Mossend · 26/06/2017 23:13

The year my DD was born there were 6 girls in the whole country to be named the same as her.
When she started school one of the other ones was in the same class as her, making it the most popular girls name in the class!

ShinyTamatoa · 26/06/2017 23:13

I was one of 5 Rebecca's in my class at school (90's).

ShinyTamatoa · 26/06/2017 23:14

Lots of Lily's and their variants in DD's reception class.

GreenTulips · 26/06/2017 23:16

DD class of several Kira's plus Milly Lily and Tilly and Molly of coarse

DS class Eve Evie Evelyn Evie May Ava

CoffeeChocolateWine · 26/06/2017 23:36

When I was younger there were lots of Sarahs and Claires, and Stevens and Daniels. I really can't remember how many of each though!

My daughter is in reception and Amelie is the most popular girl's name in her class and year - 2 in her class and 4 in the year. For the boys, Charlie is popular. My DD is called Eva and I was prepared for her to be one of many in her class because apparently Evas, Evies, Eves and Avas are everywhere, but she is the only Eva in her year and there are no Evies, Eves or Avas either!

OwlsinTowls · 26/06/2017 23:37

I'm 21 years old and went to school with a lot of girls called... Emma, Sophie, Chloe, Jessica, Leah, Shannon, Sarah, Lauren, Bethany/Beth, Emily.

Boys... Reece, Jack, Conor, Daniel, James/Jamie, William/Will, Joseph/Joe, Josh, Kieran, Jake.

Composteleana · 26/06/2017 23:47

My current class has 4 Isabellas - one is always 'Isabella' and the others have different shortening of the name so that's worked out quite well!

Have had 3 Noahs before now, and one year had a Luke, a Luca and a Lucas. Also 3 Emilys (Emilie?!)

On the other hand there's the names that in 12 years of teaching across different schools/areas have appeared every single year - Jack, James, some version of Ellie/Ella, a Sophie or a Sophia/Sofia and usually Will/William - though not this year.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/06/2017 23:55

We had a glut of Stephens in primary.

DH's first job was with a large company which appeared to have a hiring policy requiring at least 60% Daves. They all called each other by their surname. My company went through a phase of many Mikes.

The most children of the same name in one class I've come across was in a local museum where two primary schools had contributed art work and the kids were all credited. The CofE school list was all names very much like Owls list. The other had a large predominance of Mohammeds (at least a quarter), quite a few Hussains ... a bit more variety in the girls' names but no overlap with the other list.

Littlelondoner · 27/06/2017 00:00

80s 2x hannahs 3x sophies 3x rachels 4x rebeccas 4x emily 3x emma in my year group of 50!! All very 80s names!! Possibly outting but 2 of the hannahs had the same surname to so spent the whole of school being hannah-middle name

Dixiestamp · 27/06/2017 00:58

I taught a class once which had 7 Katies in (8 including me!). My favourite class, however, had Lara, Kara, Sara and Zara!

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 27/06/2017 01:05

At my school all of the girls were called either Claire, Laura, Sarah or a variation of Katherine.

They may have been three or four other names.

I work in nursing homes and see a similar name trend. At the moment it's Phyllis or Patricia. Few years back you couldn't move for Veras.

WomanScorned · 27/06/2017 05:17

I was one of 4 girls with the same 70s/80s name.

DS1, now in his 20s, was in a class where almost all the boys had a 'J' name - Jack, Jake, Jacob, Josh, Joshua, Jordan and James. DS took to calling himself Jeuben!
The girls were mostly called Charlotte.

15 years on, and DS2 is in a class of Amy, Aimee, Evie, Ava, Ella, Ella-Louise, Aiyla, Isla, Emma, Amelie and Amelia!

I think we believe that 'anything goes', now and that made up and unique names are more common than they actually are. IME, most of us still 'play it safe'.

KERALA1 · 27/06/2017 07:00

In dds class at one stage one third of the girls named a variant of eve (eve, eve, Evie, Eva, eve )

HearTheThunderRoar · 27/06/2017 07:45

My DD was in a classroom of '98/99 borns and there always have been tones of Graces, Hannahs, Georgias, Katies, Caitlins and Paiges - all fairly standard 90s names. But there were also 4 Ellas in a year of 80 girls.

Loads of Bens, Jacks, Toms and Harrys. I remember there was a boy at DD's Primary, a couple of years above called Oliver and at that time I thought that was very posh!

Roomba · 27/06/2017 07:57

There were three Catherine/Katherine/Kathryns in my class at primary school, and two in the other class in the same year. On my street of 30 houses there were four girls with this name all within a couple of years in age. All born mid-late 70s.

A fair few Lees and Daniels in my classes too. And Robert/Rob/Robbos.

MrsJayy · 27/06/2017 08:00

Julie ,Jacqueline and Nicola in my year at school i am one of those there was a million of us Grin

MrsJayy · 27/06/2017 08:03

Dd1 Calums and Amy and Emma

Dd2 Lewis and Rachel /Emma dd2 seemed to be friends with all the Emmas

thethoughtfox · 27/06/2017 08:06

I forgot about all the Vickys in my class!

habibihabibi · 27/06/2017 08:07

Not only did 7 boys in one of my classes have the same name (Mohammed ) 2 of them had the same middle and last name.

Zoflorabore · 27/06/2017 08:09

In my primary school of 30 dc in the 80's there was not a single name duplicated!

My dd is in the same school now and is one of only 2 girls in the school with the same name ( Lucy ) but there are lots of Olivia's, Ellie/Ella/Mia/Ava and for boys there are lots of Harry/Alfie/Jack/Joseph.

In my dd's year one class there is nobody with the same name as each other!

RedStripeIassie · 27/06/2017 08:19

In my year
Lee
Daniel
Kieran
Ben

Claire
Katie
Laura
Emma

I remember thinking that Harry sounded incredibly posh and that you'd get teased with a name like that Grin

In my dds pre school they all have different names.

Chocolatecake12 · 27/06/2017 08:21

I have an Oliver and he's always only been the only Oliver in his class. That's 3 schools too as we moved areas.
Growing up I had lots of nicolas and Claire's and Sarah's.
Seems Tom is a name where there's always a couple in each class and James too,
My youngest ds has 2 phoebes in his class and 2 Poppy's.

MaroonPencil · 27/06/2017 08:27

When I was at school, we had three Sarahs and a Sara in our class - in the year as a whole there were at least seven Sarahs.

DS1 has three Isabelles in his class, two Erins, two Charlottes, two James. DS2 has two Sophies and two Amelias.
